I do agree with some of the things you said, I will try to make things more clear for certain categories in the future, alongside this I will be removing losing points from failing to answer questions however I will be keeping the losing points from incorrect answers since it will keep players on there toes and will lower the power creep from those who have lots of points and gives a chance for the players who are behind to catch up.Before we go any farther with this, I have to object to the points docking mechanic. Removing points for someone submitting an incorrect answer is okay I suppose, but taking away points when someone doesn't submit anything feels overly punishing considering that, despite efforts to organize workable times, this game has consistently struggled with having all of its players be present for the whole of each round. I have some misgivings with the bonus round already and it's just making them worse. I was planning to save this feedback for after the game but no time like the present, I suppose.
Firstly, it's important that players know what they're signing up for. This game was advertised as being three rounds when we signed up, and then suddenly there's a mandatory fourth round being thrown in as a plot twist. That already kind of left a bad taste in my mouth, even before it was revealed that players were being hard punished for skipping out by having points they'd already earned taken away. Adding one extra round of questions may not seem like a big deal to you (and honestly if not for the point removal, it wouldn't have been too egregious), but your players' time should be respected, and they may not want to participate further beyond what they initially committed to.
A good example of a bonus round done well is Scribble. That's become something of an expected feature of the game over the past couple of years, but it's always opt-in and it doesn't have any impact on the scoring from the previous rounds.
Second, general community things is an extremely broad category, and telling people to "get studying" is not very helpful when the questions could plausibly relate to anything on the site. Yeah, we have the hint mechanic, but that'll only take you so far. Also keep in mind that two of this game's players are very new to the community to the point where they didn't even know what the Mario Awards were going into this, and it seems like a choice that wasn't really made with being attentive to the game's playerbase in mind. Again, it's already questionable and made worse by removing points for missed questions.
I'm not saying to scrap the whole round or anything (point removals should be heavily reconsidered though), just keep in mind lessons learned here for future hosting endeavors.
