Should Super Mario series start a girls branding?

This idea includes not entirely videogames, but also merchandise, media adaption and other subjects associated with pop culture and commerce.

As we know, Princess Peach, as well as other Super Mario heroines have become the icons of videogames and even pop culture. However, we don't really see independent merchandise line or media adaption that further try to target at young girls, something Disney or toy companies have done for long time.

Also adding that other Mario's sub-brands including Yoshi Island, Luigi's Mansion, Warioware and Donkey Kong Country don't necessarily target at girls, so I wonder if there is also room to push a girls-oriented brand under Super Mario franchise.

Well, Peach was still a typical damsel-in-distress back in 2000's, so obviously Nintendo didn't think about young girl consumers. But now Peach has become a super active heroine in modern Super Mario franchise, I wonder if she is influential enough to push a girls-oriented brand that potentially makes Disney-level success? Or you think Super Mario is good enough to appeal girls with the inclusion of playable girls in mainline? Or you don't think Super Mario has what it takes to enter that market?

Showtime felt like a small test to see if Peach can stand on her own with new contents that target at girls, but sadly, this game got very mixed review in gameplay and story. Plus it seems to miss the chance to also count other recurring heroines (Daisy, Birdo, Dixie etc) for bigger branding.

(Offtopic: mentioning Disney, Wreck-it-Ralph also really wasted the chance to do a videogame princess gatherup despite Bowser was already invited to the very first movie.

I agree with Fawfulthegreat64's post above that it would be better to simply have more games lead by the female characters of the Mario universe than to have a dedicated branding initiative for girls, having them as a playable character options in more games is good as well. I would prefer that if they make another game starring a female character that they don't make it too easy compared to other Mario games as I have heard they did with Princess Peach Showtime, that was the main reason that I didn't end up getting the game.

When I was a kid, I didn't like girl branded stuff but nowadays, I think it's harmless.

I honestly think that they should keep in gender neutral, and i think they're going to keep it that way. But yeah, ig it would be cool if they did girl branded things. But idk WHAT would be girl branded
