Wonky melancholy
Goomba
This year marks Mario's 40th anniversary. We probably won't see a new 3d Mario due to the main Mario team working on Donkey Kong Bananza. In my opinion, we're likely going to see a Super Mario Galaxy collection this year, released simultaneously on both Switch 1 and 2.
It makes more sense than Super Mario 3d All Stars releasing again due to Super Mario Sunshine now being on switch 2 online virtual console. I doubt Nintendo wants to distract from the Switch 2's GameCube emulation which is a selling point of the switch 2.
Although 3d All Stars could release again for $70/80 with Mario Galaxy 2, this is again unlikely due to Nintendo not wanting to distract from the Switch 2's premium online service.
Unlike the GameCube, we'll probably never see Wii games on the switch 2's online service because of the profit Nintendo could easily make off of remasters. We've already seen this with Donkey Kong Country Returns HD.
So it makes sense for Nintendo to release Galaxy again, (likely bundled with Galaxy 2) on switch 1 and switch 2.
Why switch 1? Nintendo has historically supported older consoles as long as the sales of those consoles are good.
Look at the 3DS. Nintendo continued to support it into 2019 with ports and remakes and only stopped when the consoles hardware and software sales dwindled.
Nintendo will likely do the same with the switch 1. A Mario Galaxy collection would sell much better simultaneously on switch 1 and 2.
When we see it
We'll likely see the Mario Galaxy collection in either September or October. I'd wager October is more likely. Nintendo won't want to distract from Donkey Kong, however, they also won't want to miss out on Mario's 40th anniversary.
Switch 2 exclusive features
While the collection won't be exclusive to Switch 2, it will likely feature exclusive gimmicks. I predict a mouse feature that acts as the Wii pointer.
Pricing
I doubt the game will be $70, but it might be. Nintendo has stated before that they price games based on the effort they put into them. A Mario Galaxy collection is relatively low effort to produce. Especially since Nintendo will likely use an emulator vs porting it to the Switch. (They emulated Mario 3d All-Stars and didn't port any of the games)
Thoughts? Maybe I'm being too hopeful but it seems likely.
