Self-explanatory. Sure it's a long time ago now but it is still a moment that will be iconic forever. Personally I felt like Chris Rock's joke was a bit too offensive but how Will Smith acted was much more inappropriate, but would like to hear others' thoughts.

LMAO, Will Smith is lucky Chris Rock didn't do more by suing his butt off. I'm not saying Chris Rock's joke was super appropriate but violence was not the answer here.
 
Yeah nah it actually was and I'm saying this as someone who abhors violence.

Sometimes the only language dipshits like Chris Rock understand is a slap.

The 'joke' was that Jada Pinkett Smith would be starring in the film GI Jane 2.

Of course the big issue with this 'joke' is that Jada Pinkett Smith hasn't shaved her head as part of some fashion choice or whatever, she shaved her head because she has alopecia areata, an autoimmune disease causing hair loss in some or all parts of your body. So even if he didn't know it, Chris Rock was making a joke about someone with a medical condition who literally has no choice about her hair loss.

And you know what, even if Rock didn't know that Pinkett Smith had alopecia areata (which I believe he has said he didn't), that's still no excuse because Chris Rock literally produced, co-wrote, and fucking narrated an entire goddamn documentary literally about black women and the stigmas and challenges they face because of their hair and how they choose to style it, so you'd think he'd know not to crack a shitty 'joke' about a black woman's hair (or lack thereof).

Chris Rock's joke was juvenile, yes, but he didn't mean any lasting offense. I just think Will Smith wanted to "prove himself" to Jada (Will was laughing until he saw Jada's reaction) and honestly, he's lucky that Chris chose not to file charges.

It's not like Chris doubled down in pain, he looked mostly just surprised.
