It seems that for Mar10 Day the LEGO Company is celebrating by announcing a collaboration with Nintendo to make LEGO sets themed around Mario. All we've seen so far is what ever that Mario thing is.

I'm personally excited, purely because I love building LEGO.

The LEGO Company posted their own version of the above announcement, and it features a better look at the Mario featured in the first tweet.

It's likely that the lego parts will use a custom head but yeah, this was a long time coming. I'm sure my sister will get a kick out of this.

Now, I'm waiting until Mario gets an (ugly) Pop Figure since he's like the only cultural pop icon without one.
 
If only there was a LEGO Mario game.
 
I'm really excited for this, as long as they do a good job of it. Apparently there are going to be thirteen sets, though one of them is listed as a blind bag, so come on Mario Lego Minifigures series!

If you've put the ugly in brackets because you don't like Funko Pops, you may be pleased to hear that I read a news article from early last year saying that the creator of them had been trying to get the license- and no Mario ones have surfaced yet. I really hope that means Nintendo isn't giving them the license, I think Funko Pops are really creepy and I hope they don't make Mario ones.

Edit: Hold on a minute, I've just had a thought. I don't think we know any sort of release date yet, but I might have a theory on when this lot could be expected. Assuming that the blind bag is a Lego Minifigure series and not a random one-off other thing like the Unikitty set from last year, I think I can use the theory of Minifigure release dates to put a guess in at late August/September. We usually get three Lego Minifigure series a year, one in late December/January (At the moment, that's the DC set), another in April (Already confirmed to be standard series 20) and the third is usually late August/September. More recently, this schedule has been a mix of both the standard series and licensed ones, and these dates are usually fairly consistent, and have only been moved before as a tie-in thing (i.e. The Lego Movie 2 set was shifted to a February release to tie in with the movie's release date, I think the original Lego Movie set may have been the same but it's too long ago for me to remember now), so unless there's a big upcoming game release that they want to tie in with, I reckon we could be looking at an August/September release. Don't hold me on that, though.

Huh, I could have sworn I saw them in stores as recently as last year or so, but that must've either been unsold stock or it was farther back than a year.

Anyways, if these sets end up being good (and they should, because they're Lego), I'll probably pick up a couple of the less-expensive ones when they come out.

Its very possible that the toy that we see here is a Switch holder (the device is placed vertically), which allowed for animated eyes, mouth and the chest. I wonder what sort of ideas are going to come from this, and how it would look like if the screen is viewed without slotting in.

The problem with K'Nex is the despite it ran for quite a time, the diversity of products isn't good enough. Such as the blind bag didn't devote to adding as many new characters from new platformers or Mario Kart racers as possible. Overrecycling is a huge letdown, and it deserves to go into the history.

If LEGO want to do a blind bag (called Collctible Minifigures), hope that it's a sixteen individual characters. I'm fine with a Mario with exclusive suit, but please don't do five Marios in a series of sixteen figures. Hope that they do as much work as Overwatch for this franchise.

And now wonder how they're gonna handle Bowser and Donkey, which don't suit regular figures too well. If they think Donkey should be as big as Winston, that means Donkey would be exclusive to big sets. If so the good news is that the Minifigures have more spaces for human characters like Pauline.

Additionally, the other controversial issue is that LEGO Ideas, its official fandom project site, has rejected Zelda franchise for numerous times. If LEGO next announce a Zelda waves, I don't think the Zelda fan creators are gonna be happy about this.

it'd be boring to not able to seperate and exchange their hair and hat pieces (like putting Peach's hair onto Mario).

Good, time to clear a large space in my home in preparation for actually playing with LEGOs again, ahhh i remember back in the day I'd make shitty renditions of Mario characters out of lego bricks.

To be fair, that's still the closest I've ever gotten to having a figure of certain characters, but i feel like it'll stay that way even in this set for the characters in question.

That Mario figure though... irks me. Is he electronic and actually has that screen? If so he's gonna be huge and not really compatible with other Lego people.

What's especially jarring is like how ubiquitous Mario the character is in general. In terms of oversaturated merchandising, he's like the Pikachu of the Mario series or the Jibanyan. He's like everywhere and gets like 15 billion variants of him while every other character gets shafted. And Mario merchandise tends to have, like, only the main characters. The most exotic I've seen is Mario Kart figures of Rosalina and Baby Mario, most of the time, you're just stuck with the Mario Kart 64 cast when it comes to collections, which I find brutally disappointing.
