I'm not too fond how shielding + a doesn't let you grab either.
Pretty sure it still actually does.
Also about the controls, I've always used Wiimote+Nunchuck in Brawl, where jump is C, so I keep tapping L to jump and end up grabbing

I'm fine with R being shield though. I'm just worried that by the time the game comes out and I can customize I'll be so used to tapping the control stick that I'll forget I even have the button.
Well, I must be holding the wrong button, because pressing AND holding L makes you shield...
The whole grabbing thing is just terrible design. In all three past Smash games, the left finger is meant for shielding while the right finger is for grabbing.
Smash 64 : Z=shield; r=grab
Melee: L/R = shield; z=grab
Brawl:Most control schemes have you shield with the left finger and grab with the right finger. Even the Wii Remote control scheme does that.
So it's baffling why the developers thought reversing shoulder buttons would be a good idea. :/
