Which Mario Kart games have enjoyable battle modes?

Everything but Mario Kart 8.
 
I'd say Double Dash had the best battle mode, the courses were great except Block City and there was Shine Thief and Bob-omb Blast. Wii had an alright battle system, but it WAS WAY TO SLOW. Also I didn't like how we had the choice of only the standard kart and standard bike. I also liked 64's battle mode.
 
I can't say for the ones that I haven't played but I enjoyed all the Battle Modes from the ones that I have played.
 
DS's shine runners mode was dumb, though it's balloon battle was the shit

but anyways I enjoyed all of the ones I played except for the aforementioned shine runners

You insulted Mario Kart Wiis amazing Battle Mode. Why?
 
It's not an insult, it's my opinion.

Anyway, Mario Kart Wii's Battle Mode was a bit slow for my tastes, and I hated how they forced you into teams for them unless you played offline or something.
