Wii: 2
3DS: 2
Wii U: 7

MKWii: Dry Bones returned. Dry Bowser was added; 2 Dry Characters.
MK3DS: Both were cut; back to 0.

Hopefully, the Metal Characters follow this same trend, only 2 games after the Dry Character trend.

And people actually happen to like those characters that were cut
