Miyamoto in 1999: "Mario will be more grown-up"

First of all, here's the source: http://www.ign.com/articles/1999/08/03/mario-swims-with-dolphin

So, apparently, in 1999, Miyamoto said that he was planning on making Mario and Luigi more mature, as he thought they were getting too cutesy and childish. Part of making them more "mature" was removing the V-sign they frequently made.

Funny how none of that happened, and actually the total opposite happened. Mario is more and more childish every day.

I do think that Mario should stop being so childish. This is a personal opinion, ok? I'm not saying he should become something like Conker, but something more like Spyro or Crash. I mean, something still targeted for kids, and not for babies like he is now (well, that's how I see it).

There are so many ways to explain better what I mean, but I don't know the right way to say it in English... D:

Spyro these days is even more childish than Mario

It's been some time since I last played a Spyro game, but I meant something like his PSX days, in Ripto's Rage. He was more like a pre-teen and had a quite cool attitude.

It is a nice wish and idea, but I don't know exactly how they might pull it off. Now, I do not want like a rated M Mario game (oh jeez, that conversation), but something like the maturity level of the Spyro series, and that did become slightly more mature at the progression of the series.

If you do not count Skylanders, I do not think so..

Well that's exactly what I was thinking about

@Anser: I don't think that's the way Mario is supposed to be intended. Mario is like a family-friendly series

Just get the punky Mario from Super Mario Strikers.

Or maybe make him more like Rayman; childish and seemingly stupid, but a badass.

I refuse to awknowldege Skylanders as a Spyro game, even though I do frequently for some stupid reason.
But the games just right before Skylanders, the plot was pretty dark. Like Dawn of the Dragons.

Mario's Bad 'Stache Day should be a thing.

No. Never.
I want my V for victory-ing brothers back

So does the Spyro wiki
