I've never played YIDS. What exactly makes it so hard to 100%?
Likewise

Well, I believe you need to collect 100 red coins, 30 or so stars and all the flowers per level. Also, the later levels are pretty god damn hard. It takes a long time and red coins are only slightly different to regular coins so its hard to find them sometimes.

There's a platform that carries you across the section while the panels are flipping to say it.

Wait, really? I don't remember that. I remember having to actually jump across the flipping platforms as they were spelling it out. The Tanooki Suit was a lifesaver in doing that, thankfully.

Yeah, you did it the hard way.

Don't forget to mention you have to do it all in one go.

Yeah, it was pretty painful to play through, but I pulled it off.
Such as Secret 1: Welcome to Yoshi Tower!, a lot of trial and error+ memorizing the Red Coin locations.
I actually prepped up in 1-2 for 6 Red Eggs+Baby Mario for that level and egged most of the enemies in the beginning for spare Stars, I think I used some Red Eggs in some levels too to fix up my Star count.
When I screwed up early on this level, I soft resetted the game so I would still have the 6 Red Eggs.
You have to go through that level pretty quick to be able to shoot those two ? clouds filled with Stars in the area with the rotating spikes.

It goes without saying that yes I did get hit by those bastarded firesticks in 5-7: Superhard Acrobatics!, but I took advantage of the invincibility frames to get by some of them.
If you're about to get hit and you're on a platform, jump. It's the only way to immediately get the baby back before the countdown starts, plus you're temporarily invincible.
Yoshi looks around in a panic for AT LEAST 1 second if he gets hit while on the ground.
You don't want that if you're going for 100.

Had a couple more levels I wanted to mention, but they're vague memories now, all I remember is that some of the levels took out quite a bit of lives.

To clarify about Yoshi's Island scores:
You need 30 Stars, this is the maximum amount you can have, if this hits 0, the baby will get abducted by Toadies and you lose a life.
20 Red Coins, which look exactly the same as regular Coins until you grab them.
And 5 Flowers, which is 10 points per Flower.
100 Points altogether.

Christ, YIDS sounds really hard. Now I'm tempted to get it so I can have a challenge, lol

Now I feel stupid that I never found that platform. At least I beat it, all in all.

If you want a good challenge, get another game. Yoshi's Island DS's "difficulty" serves to only punish the player with hideous and little thought out level design
