I bought Pokemon Y today, and I've played it for a bit... So here are some of my first impressions:
Seriously quick to the punch, this game, getting my first Pokemon took a lot less time then I expected... and there are SO many Pokemon near the beginning! Like with most games, you'd barely have 5 or 6 Pokemon by the time you reach the second or third town, but here I already have, like, 10! Which is why I WISH I had access to a PC sooner, before I reached Santalune City (unless I missed something). Also, I picked Froakie as my starter, he was my instant favorite the moment he was revealed (and his evolutions are cool too). I plan on getting Charmander when that point comes up.
It's also weird how the environments are 3D, yet you're still limited to the up-down-left-right-diagonal plane all handheld Pokemon games have. Took a bit of getting used to, honestly, and it was especially where when I made my character change direction on the spot without moving... Like I could do that with the other Pokemon games, but it's pretty strange here.
I like the Pokemon battles, even if they seem laggy at first, and I don't see THAT much of a difference with the 3D on or off, but maybe I just have to unlock more impressive moves... you know, that's another thing, there are only select parts of the game where you can use the 3D... not that I care, but I found that fascinating.
The characters and the way they move and stuff remind me of Fire Emblem Awakening, and hopefully those of you who have played that game will know what I mean when I say that.
One thing I noticed was a lack of major tutorials... other then "how to catch Pokemon". Maybe I just noticed this after Mario & Luigi: Dream Team forced you to walk through every little detail about the game, but a lot of stuff was only said and they don't really walk you through it. I'm sure the game's only going to get more complex when they slowly introduce new details, so we'll see about that.
...Ahh, to be playing Pokemon again... Something about these games, it gives me a funny feeling inside... I just love it, for whatever reason.
