Did anyone else think this 'ultimate weapon' is some kind of allegory for nuclear weapons? I mean, come on, powerful weapon that ended the war? That sounds too much like Hiroshima to me. Except nuclear weapons aren't powered by the souls of dead Pokemon, but still.
Yeah, I see what people meant by "It gets really dark near the end". But, I DO have a bunch of complaints about it.
1. We get almost no foreshadowing for this. We get foreshadowing that Lysandre's the leader of Team Flare, but nothing about his goal being to activate an ultimate weapon. If they had taken its time a bit, instead of just "wham, holo caster, Lysandre is evil/crazy/well-intentioned extremist.
2. The Legendary Pokemon is there for no reason. Why is Xerneas/Yvertal used to power the weapon? Again, no foreshadowing. It just feels like it's there because we need to catch the legendary during the game, not for any legitimate storyline purposes.
3. What happened at the end? Lysandre was going to activate the weapon, and then it just...backfired? What was that supposed to mean? It wasn't satisfying. Lysandre didn't even come around, he just kept trying even after we defeated him. Although I have to say that his Mega Gyarados caught me completely by surprise.
4. What was the point of Xerosic? Did he even need to be there? He was there for ONE battle that didn't even matter. They could have easily put one of the remaining Scientists in there. We battled two in one room, after all.
5. We only met AZ ONCE before this happened. And he didn't exactly tell us anything important. Was there even a connection established between AZ and Team Flare beforehand? (Also, how are you supposed to pronounce his name? A-Z, or Az?)
....ok, maybe I'm nitpicking a bit right now. I think I just had my hopes up that the story would be better than BW1, which it wasn't. I'd say it's better than BW2, though. And good god, those visuals.
