Well, there are some unwriten rules, which lead to disagreement as to whether or not they exist. But the "No making your own throne" rule is just to keep the game playable. If everyone could make their own throne, then there wouldn't be a point in this game at all.

Sadly, if you did it before I got there, that means I got there second. Just before jumping into the portal, I shoot everybody on the other side, and then throw a tactical nuke. I close the portal that leads back in time, and reopen it after activating my anti-radiation powers. I sit on the throne.
