    did you know when nintendo were making the nes mario trilogy they accidentally skipped from 1 to 3 because of a misunderstanding. it was only when all-stars was being developed that they decided to incorporate two completely new games, each offering a very different take on what mario 2 might have been like if they'd remembered to make it

    I now own two Donkey Kong '94 cartridges that won't save, presumably because of a dead battery. I should have just tried to manually replace the battery in the first one I got.

    Attention, any of y'all with a surname that also works as a first name: You may or may not already be an interesting person, but either way, you'd be even more interesting if your middle name was "and/or". So for example, John David becomes John and/or David. Doesn't that sound like an interesting person?

    Whenever someone says "such and such was the first time Charles Martinet voiced Mario," someone else comes along with an earlier instance. Very specific versions of Mario Teaches Typing 1. That Mushroom World pinball game. Live events.

    But I'm here to put all that to rest. Because the first time Charles Martinet ever voiced Mario was in 1591, in a performance of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew.

    Originally the character was going to be called Petruchio, but Martinet convinced Shakespeare that "Mario" rolled off the tongue so much better. Ironically, the revised script with the newer and much more popular name was lost to time, and surviving copies still call the character Petruchio.

    Sometimes it's fun to take clickbaity Youtube thumbnails at face value. For example, doing so with this one briefly puts me in a world where Nintendo put the CD-i games on Steam.

    I got more or less as much Doomguy in Smash as expected. Glad Bethesda finally let them base a Mii costume on a good IP.

    So today I finally beat a Touhou game. I think I understand now why ZUN doesn't want you to spoil the endings... but I will anyway.
