Greetings everyone! I am Alex95, and welcome to the second annual Mario Kart Time Trials tournament! For those that didn't play or don't know of the Mario Kart 64 Time Trials tournament that happened last year, basically you're trying to get the best time in Time Trials over your opponents. No internet connection involved! As determined by voting in this thread, we will be playing

  • This will be a single elimination game. The person with the slowest time will be dropped from the tournament. Use your Mushrooms wisely.
  • I will select a course for us to race on at random. You must then try to get the fastest time on this course. Every course needs to be available, including retro courses.
  • Despite the above, the first course will be Toad Circuit and the last course will be 3DS Rainbow Road.
  • You are able to race the course as many times as you feel needed until you have a time you are satisfied with. Once you have a time, send proof of it to me (stream, photo, etc.) via board PM, Discord DM, or email, down to the millisecond.
  • You have a week to get in a time. If you don't send a time in by the end of the week, you will be disqualified. If this happens, the person with the slowest time sent in can still move on.
  • Times from before the tournament will not count! Only times raced during the tournament will be accepted.
  • The next race will start a week from when the last race started, regardless of when everyone sent in a time (so I don't overwhelm people in other tournaments).
  • How many races we do depends on the number of participants, including myself.
  • Last person remaining wins!

  • Any version of this game is acceptable. English, Japanese, emulations, etc. So long as the game runs and is a perfect or near-perfect copy.
  • Cheats, hacks, and mods are not allowed. Glitches and race exploits (Wuhu Island skip, Bowser Castle 1 skip, etc.) are also not allowed, but intended race shortcuts are.
  • If there are any ties for last place, the person moving on will be decided by a coin flip, die roll, or something similar.

How do you partake in this tournament? Just post something in this thread signifying your interest, let me know what version you will be using, and then keep an eye on here for updates! Times will be posted after a week and then the next race will start.

The tournament will start on June 17th, so the Monday after E3, and will likely go into late July/early August depending on participants.

If you would also like to partake in an online Mario Kart tournament, do check out Lakituthequick's Mario Kart 8 Deluxe tournament once that's up!

Last year, I hosted a Mario Kart 64 Times Trials tournament, and I think that did really well! Wanting to do it again, this time with a different Mario Kart game, but I need to know what games you have for that!

So vote which Mario Kart games you have, or you can vote which game you want to see the tournament be used for (even if you don't actually have that game). Game with the most votes will be the subject of the tournament. Mario Kart 64 is removed because it's boring to do the same game twice in a row :P

Rules will be similar to previous tournament, but actual sign-ups and more information will occur at a later date. I myself have all of them except Super Circuit, DS, and 8 Deluxe, but I can still host the tournament should either of those come out on top. Actual copies of the game (regardless of region), Virtual Console versions (also regardless of region), and unmodified emulations can count.

The tournament will require you have every unlockable course available, as all courses are chosen at random. Regarding Mario Kart 8 DLC, that will be a separate poll should that game win this poll.

Also, check out a similar event with Kirby Air Ride!

I'll close the poll at some point. Poll is now closed.

Talking to Lakituthequick about his upcoming Mario Kart 8 Deluxe tournament, I decided to remove Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as choices for this Time Trials tournament. We both decided having two different games would add more variety, and would just make sense considering Mario Kart 8/Deluxe can just be raced online anyway. So can Mario Kart 7, but connections have been spotty during past tournaments, so it will remain on this list.

If you voted for Mario Kart 8 or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, please cast a new vote if that changes anything!

Do check out Lakituthequick's MK8DX tournament once that's up as well! ^^

Sign-ups are closed!

I have an art piece in mind I want to draw for the Art Contest, and it concerns... well, whoever signs up to be a part of it! I have some users in mind I want include in this picture already (not going to say who), but if you'd like to be a part of it as well, give me a link to an image of your character and I'll work it in to the picture.

Sign-ups will go until I either get enough people and I don't think I can fit anymore, or until it comes time for me to actually start drawing something. Whichever comes first :P

Disclaimer: Your character could end up being very well drawn or very terribly drawn. That would mostly depend on what type of character you give me, but I will do my best.

Fan Creations / Legends End
« on: May 21, 2018, 07:35:25 PM »
A few years ago, my brother, Aaron Bodine, published his first book titled "Legends End". This is a fantasy, medieval-type book, with magic, adventures, and plenty of characters. Pretty much think Lord of the Rings, but with more magic involved!

He's been working on these books for years now, and has become rather...unmotivated to continue. His books aren't selling that great, not because they're bad (they are great, I've read them. And I don't like reading), but because no one knows about them. So, I'm spreading his work around! You can buy his 9 books off of Amazon in either physical or digital form, the prices of which vary depending on their size and content.

  • War: The Lives We Lost (Legends End Book 1)
  • War: Journal of Death (Legends End) (Volume 2)
  • War: The Sin of Magic (Legends End) (Volume 3)
  • War: The Years Between (Legends End) (Volume 4)
  • Ancient's Fables (Volume 1)
  • Ancient's Fables Vol.2 (Ancinet's [yes, typo...] Fables) (Volume 2)
  • Path of the Warrior: Tournament of Fates (Volume 1)
  • Chronicles of Shadow: Birth (Volume 1)
  • Mindrallis: The Fallen Land

Books are his way of getting out the ideas that have been pilling up in his head for years. If any of these interest you, then show him some support!

(There's one other book here that's written by a different Aaron Bodine. You can buy that if you want to learn the basics of property management.)

2018 / Mario Kart 64 Time Trials Tournament! (Tokens!)
« on: May 13, 2018, 06:02:38 PM »
Greetings everyone! I am Alex95, here with a different kind of Mario Kart tournament. Instead of the usual "Race against others" formula, this time it will instead be "race against the clock". That's right, this tournament will show who can make it to the finish line in Time Trials the fastest! And we're doing this in

Why this game? Because there aren't as many gimmicks such as custom or selectable karts, so the times will be based on your skill alone. And because I like this game. So here's how this is going to work:

  • This will be a single elimination game. The person with the slowest time will be dropped from the tournament. Use your Mushrooms wisely.
  • I will select a course for us to race on at random. You must then try to get the fastest time on this course.
  • Despite the above, the first course will be Luigi Raceway and the last course will be Rainbow Road.
  • You are able to race the course as many times as you feel needed until you have a time you are satisfied with. Once you have a time, send it to me via PM, down to the millisecond. Times can be sent in as an update repeatedly, but only your most recent time will count.
  • You have a week to get in a time. If you don't send a time in by the next Monday, you will be disqualified. If this happens, the person with the slowest time sent in can still move on.
  • How many races we do depends on the number of participants, including myself.
  • Last person remaining wins!

  • Any version of this game is acceptable. English, Japanese, emulations, etc. So long as the game runs and is a perfect or near-perfect copy.
  • Cheats, hacks, mods, and map exploitations are not allowed. Intentional race shortcuts are allowed.
  • If there are any ties for last place, the person moving on will be decided by a coin flip, die roll, or something similar.

How do you partake in this tournament? Just post something in this thread signifying your interest, tell me which version of the game you will be playing, and then keep an eye on here for updates! Times will be posted after a week or when everyone has a time and then the next race will start. Sign-ups are closed and the tournament has begun.

The races will start on July 2nd.

Challonge is not giving me the type of bracket I want to use, so there's no visual representation here. Instead, updates will be posted after every round.

Forum Games / Ask Chain
« on: May 01, 2018, 11:36:20 AM »
Wasn't sure if this would go in the Ask Board or not, but probably fits better in Forum Games considering how it works.

Anyway, point of this game is to ask a question. Random someone comes along to answer it and then they have to give a question of their own. The circle of life continues. Simple.

*Only reply to the most recent question, not any from before.
*Do not double post to answer your own question(s).
*This is not a personal ask thread. If you want questions that are directed at you specifically or to direct a question at a specific someone, go to the Ask Board subforum and post in the appropriate topic/make a topic of your own.

Now then, let's get started:

What is your favorite song?

General Discussion / Mario jc Moves Up!

Guess no one else is going to make this :P Mario jc has been promoted to bureaucrat! He's a hard worker and a great editor, so I think this promotion is well deserved. Congrats, man!

Off-subject Discussion / NIWA Spotlight

Current NIWA Spotlight in The 'Shroom!

Every NIWA Spotlight topic!

Chances are, you don't have only Mario games. I myself have over 300 games, ranging from Mario to Zelda to Pokemon to Metroid to Fire Emblem. I decided to help out with other NIWA sites due to this plethora of information, ultimately becoming an administrator of the F-Zero and Kid Icarus Wikis.

But despite that, I can't do everything, so I'm here to summon help from those that can provide it! And you can do the same! Sure, you can post in the relative NIWA's forums or chat service, but not everyone you know could be on there. Basically, this is a thread for you to request help from the users of the Mario Wiki for another NIWA wiki, similar to our own 'Shroom Spotlight (hence the title). For the Mario Wiki related stuff, check out the 'Shroom Spotlight topic!

Say an upcoming Mario Kart 9 uses retro courses. With Mario Kart 8 being released on both the Wii U and the Switch, what identifier do you think MK9 should use to specify what game the track is from?

Will it use (Wii U) since that was the platform the original game was on? Will it use (Switch) since that platform is doing better than the Wii U so far? Or will it use (MK8) as the identifier, possibly changing the others to (SMK), (MK64), etc. as well? Or another you can think of?
For retro battle courses, it would either be (Switch) or (MK8DX), since the Wii U version was just races turned into battle maps.

Personally hoping it uses (Wii U) as the identifier, if nothing else so we don't have to move every race course page :P. Answer will be revealed once Mario Kart 9 is announced or released.

The Marioverse / Mario Kart RPG
« on: September 20, 2017, 06:50:20 PM »
So, I was thinking about how the RPG aspects of the Mario Golf and Tennis games should return for (and they should), and then I thought "What other Mario spin-offs could this work with?" My mind immediately went to Mario Kart.

I picture it as you, a young boy/girl, joining a "Mario Kart Driver's School" of some kind with dreams of becoming the next biggest racer. Like with Golf and Tennis RPGs, there'd be original characters, and the more you race, the more kart pieces you unlock and stats you can improve.

I have nowhere near enough experience to make a game like this, and I doubt Nintendo ever will themselves, but what do you guys think? What do you want to see in a Mario Kart RPG?

HelpDesk / Adblock not working
« on: September 02, 2017, 11:15:29 PM »
Earlier today I wasn't having a problem with it, but a few hours ago, ads starting popping up in sites like the Mario Boards despite my adblock turned on. I didn't mess with the settings, and it's annoying. There is currently no site exceptions in my adblock list, yet sites are still showing ads. I am logged in everywhere I visit and I even uninstalled and reinstalled adblock. Nothing.

Anyone else experiencing this and how do I fix it?

EDIT: Okay... swapped adblock extension and, um, that worked. Please lock.

Congrats to TheFlameChomp for becoming a patroller! Welcome to the team and keep up the good work!

Mister Wu came up with the title :)

Greetings everyone, and welcome to the Mario Boards Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tournament! I am your host, Alex95! I don't know where I'm going with this introduction, so let's just get to the rules!

  • 1 on 1
  • 3 stocks
  • 5 minute matches
  • Best 2 of 3 matches
  • Swiss Styled Tournament
  • No items
  • No mods or hacks of any kind (Sorry Glowsquid)

Viable Stages
  • Battlefield
  • Big Battlefield
  • Final Destination
  • Smashville
  • Town and City
  • Kongo Jungle 64
  • Dream Land 64
  • Lylat Cruise
  • Duck Hunt
  • Any Omega Stage
  • Gentleman's Rule

Character Limitations
  • Custom characters are not allowed
  • Palutena must have the 1, 1, 1, 1 moveset
  • Mii's are allowed, but they must have the 1, 1, 1, 1 moveset with no Equipment

Now then, I assume you all want to actually partake in this tournament. Well, you're in luck! All you have to is post your username here on the Mario Boards, your Mii Name, your Nintendo Network Identification (NNID), and your time zone, which will make it easier for you and your opponent to assign times, in that order. Also, be sure you have "Accept Friend Requests" turned on in your friends list settings. Hoping to have at least 16 participants, the sign-ups for which will last until July 9th, and the actual tournament itself will start on July 10th! At least 16 people is what I'm hoping for, but I can probably include more than that. Once everyone and everything is set up, the tournament will be posted on Challonge and a link will be posted here in the opening post.

This will be a Swiss styled tournament, meaning you earn points based on your performance. In best 2 of 3 matches, you will earn 2 points for every win, 0 points for a loss, and both will earn 1 point in the event of a tie match. All players will move through five rounds, and the next round will begin once all matches have been played. After 3 rounds have passed, a winner will be declared.

Once you have been assigned a dueling partner, you must work out a time to battle each other. If a week has passed with no result from either of the participants, they both receive a total of no points and will move to the next round so as to keep things moving. However, if you have messaged your opponent and they do not respond by the following Sunday, then tell me and you will move through unopposed with an added four points (as if you won 2-0). Do try to contact your opponent as early as you can.

Wiki Collaborations / Image Help Thread
« on: April 14, 2017, 08:25:38 PM »
Trying to find a good spot to put an image, but instead of going to one person for help or showing the image in a random, scrambled thread like the General Discussion, I thought "Why not make a thread about this type of thing?" This way, users can show their images that they found and ask for help as to where it should go on the wiki, whether it's authentic or not, what categories need to be included, etc.

I'll go first.
Found this gif on the My Nintendo Reward for the new Yoshi theme for the 3DS. I could upload it and put it in Gallery:Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, but so many images are found solely in galleries and die get lost, so what would be a good place to put the image? Would Yoshi Theater (Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World) be a good place, considering the shorts is where this gif came from?

I could also maybe upload the theme itself. Do we do that? I have a few other Mario-related themes I could snap a pic of and include.

General Discussion / 'Shroom Writer Rank?
« on: April 04, 2017, 12:47:49 PM »
Was wondering if it's possible to include a new rank on the Mario Boards, namely showing those that are 'Shroom Writers (<--). I know the writers don't have as much of an impact on the Mario Boards as the Core 'Shroom Staff, but it'd be cool for users and guest of the boards to see who writes for the newspaper.

I'm thinking the star color would be orange, to match the Core 'Shroom Staff, but the amount of stars would be less (one or two). I also know there are a couple of other users, like Baby Luigi and Yoshi876, who are a 'Shroom Writer, but also have another rank. Maybe the 'Shroom Writer rank would be the lowest possible rank (aside from banned) on the forums, so as to not overwrite the "more important" ranks?

General Discussion / Poll Talk
« on: March 07, 2017, 10:44:25 PM »
Decided to create a thread where users can talk about the poll, whether it be questions about it or a place to talk about your answers. You don't have to post your answers if you don't want to, of course, that's the beauty of a forum.

I'd recommend against trying to suggest a poll here, as you'd have a better chance here.

At the moment, the current poll is:

Which game engine do you use the most in Super Mario Maker?
* Super Mario Bros.
* Super Mario Bros. 3
* Super Mario World
* New Super Mario Bros. U
* I have never played Super Mario Maker.

I mainly use the Super Mario Bros. engine mainly due to the amiibo costumes and I just like running around the Mushroom Kingdom as Link or Samus (or Sonic the Hedgehog). But if I feel like making a grueling obstacle course, I go with Super Mario World.

Fan Creations / Video Game Crossover Idea
« on: February 12, 2017, 10:52:03 PM »
I'm sure most of you have had this type of "dream crossover game" idea before. Smash Bros. comes out with several Nintendo (and more) characters who duke it out with each other, whereas games like Project X Zone deliver a more story-driven narrative.

I want to create a crossover fangame of my own, using the RPG Maker system I'm familiar with. I'll work on the story and scripts later, but right now, I'm having trouble figuring out what characters I want to work with.

Much like the Smash Bros. ballet, you can suggest a character you want to see in the game in this thread. ...Did I say "a" character? I meant three! Start throwing out characters you'd like to see, whether they be hero or villain, along with the game(s) they're from. And then I'll hobble the top 50 together in some sort of game I'm not even sure I'll finish. You can post skills you want them to use as well, or you can leave that up to me.

The game will reuse assets from other games, or I'll modify some to make them work. I'll be working on this alongside my Power Master idea, but that will take priority. I also can't guarantee the game will even reach the light of day. I also can't guarantee the game will be "good", but I'll do my best.

Once I decide enough is enough, I'll post the results here in the OP.

RULES (gotta love 'em):
*The character has to have originated in a video game. This will just make it easier to put the whole thing together.
*I'd like it if the character isn't from an M-rated game, but if the M-rated character has appeared in a T or below-rated game, that's fine. (For example, Bayonetta in Smash)
*This whole thing is being put together for fun. All properties will be the properties of their respective owners, yadda yadda yadda. No money involved.
*Keep the suggestions to three or less characters. Anything more will be ignored, but you can change your submissions. Additionally, post the game(s) they are from.

Spoiler: RESULTS (click to show/hide)

Off-subject Discussion / Alex95's Top Games of 2016
« on: January 14, 2017, 05:11:15 PM »
2016 had a lot of really good games and content, so much so that I haven't played them all. So, here's a list based on the games that I have played ordered by my personal favorite. Here are my top 7 favorite games of 2016 (apparently, I've only played seven games from 2016 :P)!

#7: Star Fox Guard
I bought this and played it once, so... number 7! Star Fox Guard is a game where you have to defeat a near-endless supply of robots from taking the energy core of your base. You place 12 cameras around your base and shoot lasers and the incoming robots. Thing is you have to keep track of both screens of the Wii U in order to really protect your base, which is easier with an other person shouting out which camera you need to switch to. This game can be difficult, but the cool thing is you can create your own pattern of robots and hand it the game off to someone else to try and defeat against your army of robots! Mwahaha!

Or you can summon Fox or Falco by using their amiibo to wipe out all of the robots in the base. You can do that too.

#6: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Picross
This was one of the My Nintendo rewards and, as you can probably tell, is a Picross game based on elements from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Nintendo 3DS (this game is for the 3DS, not Twilight Princess itself). The game has you mark 8-bit (or maybe 16-bit?) shapes of characters or items from the game... which is made increasingly difficult when the icons look absolutely nothing like the subject until you finished the current objective. I am so not good at this game, but it's an interesting challenge.

At the time of this writing, the game is still available for download with 1000 platinum, Miitomo, or Super Mario Run tokens needed to actually download it, but I'm not sure how long it'll remain available. So if you like Zelda and Picross, I highly recommend this game.

#5: Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge
I have NEVER played a Mini Mario game until now (*gasp*), but this game is actually a lot of fun. The game relies mainly on amiibo, specifically Mario-based amiibo. Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Rosalina, and Yoshi amiibo are all compatible and will all unlock their respective worlds upon scanning them. Each one has their own abilities that is utilized to a great extent and you have to use them all if you want to 100% the game... which means you need all the aforementioned amiibo in order to do so. Anyone got a spare Bowser Jr. and/or Rosalina amiibo they're willing to lend me? This game is available FOR FREE for both the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U! Yay!

#4: Fire Emblem Fates
When this game first announced, I was very excited about it. Then more information started coming out: There will be 3(!) separate versions a la Pokemon, some of the characters just don't sit well with me, the game is heavily influenced by Awakening mechanics like the nonsensical children... My brothers urged me to get the game once they saw it on shelves, so I bought the Birthright version.

The gameplay itself is actually alright. Some mechanics are different, such as the weapon triangle being revamped, and of course there's the My Castle thing, which is actually pretty cool. The graphics are amazing for the Nintendo 3DS and the music is awesome. And that's about all I like. Characters and story feel underdeveloped, but I guess I like this game enough to place it above games that didn't hold my interest for very long.

You're better off playing the older titles, if you ask me. I'm still having fun with Awakening.

#3: 2016 Smash Bros. DLC
This one might be cheating a bit, but last year's addition to Super Smash Bros. 4 was amazing. The Mii Costumes look amazing and Corrin plays very well. Geno may not be getting much of a spotlight in Smash for a while, but at least now we can dress our Miis up as him. And Corrin has some very interesting mechanics, such as stunning opponents with his lance-arm-thing and his chainsaw Omega Yato deals damage as he's/she's charging a Smash attack!

Oh, yeah, Bayonetta's there, too. Her stage is pretty cool, but Bayo's not the type of character I'd like in Smash. She's incredibly overpowered, even with her recent nerfs, but she's still fun to fight against online. Never putting her in my games, though.

#2: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD
Honestly, I wasn't impressed with the initial reveal of this game. If I hadn't gotten it for my birthday, I likely never would have. However, the game looks amazing (aside from the occasional, noticeable graphical glitches) and plays very well. Everything is greatly enhanced from the GameCube version (which this is based on, not the backwards Wii version) and the addition of Hero Mode is a welcome addition. Though this looks more like a revamped cash-grab more than anything, I highly recommend this game. The fact that it comes bundled with the Wolf Link + Midna amiibo certainly helps :3

Honorable Mention: Power Master 1: A Strange Journey
Yes, I'm putting my own game that I created onto this list as it released in March of 2016. I'm not entirely sure where to place it, so I'm just giving it an honorable mention.

It took me along time to design and I was mainly working on my own, but my first game shattered everyone I told about it's expectations, even my own. It's created similar to the classic RPG games like Dragon Warrior or Final Fantasy, meaning it doesn't have too many outstanding mechanics, but I quite like how this game came out. An expansive overworld filled with secrets like Zelda, well designed sprites drawn by my brother... the game turned out great!

It certainly has it's fair share of problems, though. The story is lacking and the dialogue is not well written (I was trying to keep it close to the source material I made when I was 13, but I guess I tried a little too hard...), and there are two differently designed sprites for enemies which is just...weird. But hey, it wouldn't be called A Strange Journey if it wasn't.

#1: Project X Zone 2
If you ever wanted an RPG Super Smash Bros., this is game for you! Continuing off of Namco X Capcom and the first Project X Zone, this game includes various characters from Namco, Capcom, Sega, and Nintendo franchises like Sakura Wars, Mega Man, Devil May Cry, Dalkstalkers, Phoenix Wright, .hack, Fire Emblem, and even Segata Sanshiro. The game looks fantastic, is incredibly well written, and the story actually makes sense for a crossover game other than just being a "fanservice-y crossover" where the characters are just simply in the same world. As the story progresses, you'll find more characters, improve their stats and moves, pair them up, and send them out to fight loooooong battles against villains from their worlds. The maps play out like a strategy RPG like Final Fantasy Tactics, but the battles play out more like Street Fighter. I've spent so many hours on this game and it is very worthy of being my favorite game of 2016.

Just don't have Felicia fight a Q-Bee. That will make your ears bleed.

Wiki Collaborations / Yoshi designs are almost done!
« on: December 28, 2016, 02:33:55 PM »
The table, specifically the amiibo one, on the List of Yoshi designs in Yoshi's Woolly World is almost done! We're only missing a few amiibo patterns left. If anyone has the missing amiibo and the game, please help complete the table! You can either add the photo yourself or post the image here and I'll take care of it.

The missing amiibo are
  • Inkling Boy
  • Inkling Squid
  • King Dedede
  • Mii Brawler
  • Mii Gunner
  • Mii Swordfighter
  • Pit
  • Vilager
  • Wario
  • Wii Fit Trainer

I realize some of these may be difficult to get. Wario, King Dedede, and the Inklings all got a re-release earlier, however. But if you have any of those and the game, please help out!

Also, once Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World comes around with updated amiibo options, we'll need to expand on that, too. An additional table at the bottom labeled "Exclusive to Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World" or something will be added.
