Copyright issues can also come into play when talking about the 3rd party characters. With how protective Square Enix is with its property, we'd be lucky if Cloud does get more than 8 palettes. As for PAC-MAN, it's pretty clear that there's a "PAC-MAN must always be colored yellow" rule.

That's stupid. And why not just take the Pikachu route and have Pac-Man dress up in stupid costumes? Why not cover him in pepperoni or something and call him an alt?

Unless we get more than 8 costume swaps (which judging by how Little Mac went from 16 to 8, is doubtful), I think all of Mario's alts are already established

Even to this day, I'm still baffled that there's no Flying Mario or Ice Mario reference. And no Fire Mario is just criminal, as that's his most notable power-up.

I could also mention that the lack of a Wario reference is also odd, seeing as Mario was able to keep that palette, even after Wario joined the fray.

That's NOT Ice Mario. Ice Mario wears red overalls and a blue shirt.

Luigi should get a riverboat gambler alt. He should also get an alt of him in a dress.

That never stopped Waluigi Mario from showing his ugly face nor did it stop orange + blue Luigi, whatever that color is based on.
