The cake isn't a lie. If you die three times then shoot a blue portal at the door then an orange one in the top of the doorway the weighted companion cube comes down and when you kill GLaDOS hold on to it then you aren't outside you're in the part where the 2nd part of the ending is then you travel through it and you get to a store room with lots of personality cores and in the middle theres the companion cube and the cake and a portal to outside.

And I learned all that from watching a YouTube video!
