whats your pokemon party

Started playing Platinum again today. I haven't posted my party in a good year or so, so I'll post my updated party.

Level 15 Magikarp (trying to grind him to level 20 at the moment so he can evolve)
Level 24 Machop
Level 39 Infernape
Level 17 Ralts
Level 20 Roselia
Level 18 Gastly

Mind you all I'm still a bit of a newbie when it comes to good Pokémon parties, so I'll gladly take criticism on things that I should change and/or improve about my party.

I'm going to give you my opinion from my own, subjective point of view.

Magikarp is cool. I mean, Gyarados is an excellent Pokémon.

Machop (and eventually Machamp) and Infernape are both great Pokémon, but I always try to avoid having a repeated type in my team. Two Fighting-type Pokémon means two weaknesses to Flying (actually three if we count your Roselia) and FOUR weaknesses to Psychic if we count both Roselia and Gastly. If I were to change one, I'd switch Machop for, say, an Electric-type like Luxray.

Ralts is good because both Gallade and Gardevoir are excellent (although I'd evolve it into Gardevoir so you don't have ANOTHER Fighting-type again).

And then, the same issue with Gastly and Roselia. Two Poison-types means two weaknesses to Psychic (four again if we count Machop and Infernape). I never liked Roselia (or Roserade) but I know it can be useful to some extent, so it depends on you whether to switch it or not. I'm sure that Gengar is much better than Roserade, though. All in all, I'd switch Roselia for another Pokémon like Cranidos or another Pokémon that has a type you don't have yet.

Interesting. I don't have a Cranidos, but I do have a Luxio I still need to evolve into a Luxray. Would you mind if I just PMed you all the Pokemon I have stored in the Pokemon center, and you can tell me which ones would be good to swap for?

Just beat the 8th gym in Pokemon X

Gardevoir (Lv. 65)
Charizard (Lv. 67)

Comments: Finally, a fucking non fire-fighting starter. Both of its types are mostly special based and as such it just about tears a new asshole for anythnig weak to either of it's types. Namely, Wulfrics shitty team.

Honestly though I'm just glad it isn't fire-fighting and has a cool design.

Comments: The last member added to my team. Shows you how much I played. First pokemon on 10/12, first hall of fame on 10/15. But this guy was a fucking beast. I couldn't remember why he felt so familiar. Then I remembered, he's like Dragonite only so much cooler. Wrecked fucking everything with acrobatics, a 110 power move without any items. It was really tough to get a Dragon type move on this guy. At around 66ish I gave up and heart scaled him Dragon Pulse. This was a fantastic decision. As the fastest member of my team he went to town on the kind old lady in the elite four's team(Dragon). Easily my second favorite Dragon, behind Hydreigon. Goodra is in last. Sorry fanboys.

Comments: Before you continue reading, check and make sure you know what his ability does. Now look at his moveset again.

Yeah. That'll work.

Normally, I run a water w/ icebeam or surfing ice type to make quick work of dragons. But that really wasn't a problem here. This thing turns Dragon Pulse, Aura Sphere, and Dark Pulse all into 100+ power moves. It is great to take on the toughest of dragons that don't know any electric attacks and might be a bit slow. Still, this monster is the coolest looking mofo out there, especially when he uses Dragon Pulse. Loved running this instead of my usual tactics.

Comments: See that Def? Ouch. I was lucky to survive one hit with this guy, especially since he learns exactly zero moves after you evolve him(Sun Stone). So I had to wait and wait and wait until I was 100% satisfied with his moves. Which was around the 7th gym. .__. His move set is pretty good. With his abilltity, fighting water types is a joke.

Their attacks heal you.

And then you use Parabolic Charge, a special move with a weakish 50 power.

Which heals you.

Then, if you were running a proper build with Rain Dance/Thunder.

The rain heals you.

So all you really gotta do is survive one hit.

Especially if you run it with Leftovers or Shell Bell.

Which heal you.

Comments: Whoops.

If you are familiar with this mon you will notice that something of great importance is missing from his move set. King's Shield. Without it he can't change back to shield form and be able to take hits. So I didn't use him. I didn't use him for much of the play through either. After about Lv. 45, I just felt that I REALLY FUCKING WANTED A FUCKING DUSK STONE.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH.

I ended up spending a couple of hours in Super Secret Training on the 6th mission until I got one. Then I promptly entered the Elite Four and remembered that I hadn't saved since well before victory road(Which was a joke by the way) or even the eighth gym. Oh, also he didn't know King's Shield.

So I just felt stupid and didn't use him. Which made the Champs last mon(very powerful fairy type) that much fucking harder.

From what I can tell, my team is probably going to be

Delphox, Blastoise, Gogoat, a Fairy-type (maybe Flabebe), a Pokemon who can fly, and maybe a Fighting-type? I don't know.

They're all named after characters from the series I mentioned earlier. I don't have the patience to drag myself through Pokemon-amie and get the extra exp boost for the others so they can keep up with Combusken. It's just such a boring sidegame. I can only rub the screen so much before my attention span breaks. The minigames aren't fun either.

EDIT: Beat the third gym. It wasn't difficult, Blaziken is still constantly a few levels higher than the others.

The item your Chesnaught originally had registered in my head as the Boulder Badge for some reason. :koopa:

I restarted SoulSilver for some odd reason, and here's my new team:
152.png

It's sorta lame right now. :P I'm planning on getting that Onix so I can beat the crap outta Falkner.

No offense, but Chikorita sucks D: Its moveset is awful and it's weak against the first two Gym Leaders. Onix isn't very good either; you should catch a Geodude instead if you want a Rock-type in your team.

I fucking love Chikorita

She's ok design-wise, but she's awful for both playthrough and competitive battling (competitive battling is overrated anyway).

Have you ever Razor Leafed a Pidgeotto to death it's pretty amazing
Also my party
Greninja (Round, Surf, Water Pledge, Smack Down)
Talonflame (Razor Wind, Flame Charge, Aerial Ace, Fly)
Venasuar (Cut ((Going to get rid of that when I fine the move deleter)) Poison Powder, Double Edge, Razor Leaf)
Malamar (Psycho Cut, Foul Play, Hypnosis (mostly for catching pokemon), Thunderbolt)
Boldore (Stealth Rock, Rock Slide, Power Gem, Strength)
Pinsir (X Scissor, Rock Tomb, Brick Break, Thrash)

After beating the seventh gym, this is my team. I took out Blaziken for a while so he isn't quite as overleveled in comparison as before.

Goodra is pretty cool, it just took a while before I could use her.

Muh, I'm breeding tonnes of Pokemon atm so my party is a Lampent and 4 Bergmite eggs.

On the other hand my Battle Box has:
Aegislash
Avalugg
Aggron
Ludicolo
Blastoise
Manectric*

I'm astounded by the amount of people who use either Charizard, Mewtwo or Lucario in the Battle Spot.

They like their Mega Evolutions duh.

2 more days until I get X! I've only had most of the new Pokemon and who the Champion is spoiled for me (not from the forums, though. It's a long story. And most of the new Pokemon had been revealed before the game came out.)
