Awards Killing Game 2x2: Moon of Hope (Game Thread) - Day 1 - Notifiable Incident

Hmm. Mr. Vigil, then,
Could Fascia and I check a broom against Miss Mona's wound?
Both the long handle and wide part.

I'll also volunteer to compare my Tibia 2, Fibula, against the wound, since she's oblong.

You grab a broom and your weapon, and compare it to the wound. It doesn't match the full shape, which is irregular in shape and rather big, with a slightly more bruised oblong part. Both only somewhat match the oblong portion of the broom. The wide part is too brushy.

Can the terminal controls be turned on? If so are there any buttons that turn on alarms? If so compare that to the sound I heard last night that sounded like a horn

Boo1268:
Suppose its our turn to tell all what happened to us last night ey Specture my good man?
1780193245945.png

Specture:
Guess your right Boo, so with out further ado...
1780193191732.png
1780193245945.png

Both:
Heres what happend:
1780193191732.png

We both began our nightly quest by heading off to the basement through the hollow tree, on the way to the tree we pass miss Albina, once we arrive at the tree we met up with Mr Humerous, after exiting the tree roots passing Mr Tanner and spliting up, Mr Humerous heads off to the crypt while I headed off towards the cinder mine to grab some gear four our confrontation.
1780193945284.png

We then continued towards the shaft, seeing Ghouliboy, he exits carrying an empty jar and wearing a backpack vacuum that has a lightbulb on the end of its nozzle. He spoted us turned off his light and gave us both a REALLY cold shoulder, and that SAYING something cause im dead! guess he really doesn't like ghosts huh? anyways we make our way to the shaft which for some reason smells a bit fishy.
1780193191732.png

We arrive on 2F and crossed to the Dining Room, we passed Lee Chaolan on the way as he heads south, followed shortly after by Portricia, with MCD headed north. we enter the kitchen to grab some more supply's grabbing some fancier looking knives from one of the cabinets and departing afterwards, returning towards the shaft, we meet up with Mr Jack in the mines, after wards we made our way towards the opaz wing together, passing through the Quarry, and into the Dark Lab. after each grabbing a can of goop from the lab we departed for the hollow tree.
1780194715465.png

We went to the Metal Lab, depositing the goop containers in plain sight, then we went to the Drafting Office, grabbing a random blueprint, for some reason it looked like the room had been raided thoroughly of blueprints. after looking a blue prints for potental ideas on what to build to stop that blocky boo bastard, we hear a smash come from the lab, followed by metal hitting the ground, we rush towards the Metal Lab to find that one of the tubes has been smashed, and a wrench lies on the ground nearby. we figured since there was another vial left it would be ok, so we headed towards the foyer.
1780193191732.png

We decided to enter, ready for a great battle ahead strangely the room smelled of paint. Ghouligrab and Jackson where there already, and while the three of us waited around for Winter together, we decided to look into the blue print we had chosen, it appears to be some sort of hypothetical device that gives you extra arms, involving a spare coat of some kind. while waiting a slew of people exited and entered the foyer from the archives they included MCD, Coral Glasses, and Detective Luke Atmey, while I did wish to offer them some tea, I knew I had to focus so I held off for the time being, Finally, Winter enters, after sorting ourselves out we had essentially created a veritable one-man army, carrying all manner of self-made contraptions.
1780194715465.png

Strangely Winter quickly deposits his payload before moving on to the Archives himself, afterwards he quickly emerges looking a little shaken, I wonder what he could have seen? anyways he set up a laptop and ran everyone over the battleplan and the use of some of his inventions, including an egg timer that should wake one up from stupor or possession, knocking on the door to summon the great blocky brute, we prepared for a fight.
1780195448480.png

We fought long and hard, tooth and nail to get him with what we had, hurling hammers, chains, sponges, pages, etc at them, we dont manage to do much damage, but Jack WAS able to slice him a tiny bit, that Temu King Boo, managed to hurl the Doc across the room, slamming into the wall and getting knocked out in an instant. A painting of the Dark Moon falls on him, revealing a small safe behind, embedded into the wall. we continuously dance around him with the knives, and kept him from fixing on a target. Winter applies the fish rag to Ghouligrab to try to rouse him, before turning around and starting to talk shit. Me, Boo and Jackson both jab at him.
1780193191732.png

Winter hurled one of his spiritual talismans at that false king, he yelled as it stuck to him, its very clear that while these mystical objects do not hurt him, they do seem to react to his presence, even if they seem to have irritated him rather that hurting him, Perhaps we could dig deeper into this another time? However, before we could make another attempt at attacking the foe, he had summoned a powerful impact, that rocked the room. Winter and Specture and myself where rattled hard, but unfortunately, Jackson was closest to the epicenter and was blown away, the explosion caused him to go crashing through furniture, knocking him out for the time being.
1780195448480.png

We figured that this attempt was a wash, but it seemed as if we had gotten some good info, if we wanted to make another attempt later on, knowing that the battle was lost Winter hurled a coffee can bomb, blinding the reject king with the light coming off of it, while Winter grabbed Ghouligrab. we grab Jackson and flee. We successfully escaped the Foyer before the King could catch us.
1780193191732.png

We deposited Jackson outside his bedroom, although I was hopeful that he in turn did not suffer any paranormal illnesses, we traversed through the Snowy Lake area towards the Clockworks court and towards our bedroom, as we hunkered down for the night, I spotted someone just closing their bedroom door before ending the night.

Can the terminal controls be turned on? If so are there any buttons that turn on alarms? If so compare that to the sound I heard last night that sounded like a horn
You power on the Terminals by hitting a large yellow and black striped lever near them. It seems this lever hasn't been pulled for a while. A custom OS known as GhoulOS turns on with a start-up sequence resembling the video below (minus the Xbox logo). It seems Gadd uses a uniquely designed operating system for the computers in this facility.

The computer screens, divided into 6 monitors, appear to function like a security terminal, only, the footage is tinted with a purple to black gradient, with certain portions of footage glowing green and ghostly. It's also rather blurry, and hard to make out things unless you're staring at a specific screen.

It appears this display is filming the Paranormal Dimension counterparts of certain rooms, and the dimension is always under darklight.

One of the screens is pitch black. One of the rooms is the Coatroom, and it appears its door is glowing... ominously. You don't recognise three of the rooms on the monitors, at all, with one looking like it has some kind of prison cell, another with crystals, and another with a lone button. The final room is the Horology Studio, where KBB is waving at you.

However, the system doesn't appear capable of recording any footage.

How does a shovel compare?
Closer than the broom, but still not a great match. You'd have to strike someone with the part of the shovel where the wooden rod meets the broad metal spade in order to get something that looks close, and even then, her injury is still very jagged compared to the smoothness of the spade.

albina_sad.png

...oh, Fascia is saying something. Can you hear it?
She's whispering, and trembling.

She wants to check what's currently on the computer in the Archives, before we do anything to it.
Then look up this noise.

Albina writes down "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5YBEdFSow8" on a piece of paper.

She says there was someone who tried to "purge" her with a horn that sounded like that.
So, privately, I'll compare it to what I heard earlier tonight, when I was in the Armory.
Fascia... was it when we were separated looking for those cans?

Is there another gramophone kicking around anywhere? The Rafters and all the junk piled up there, maybe? The data's telling me I should take that horn off and blow into it, just in case that plus-size iguana decided to try something funny.

You head to the Archives, noticing an overturned box by the terminal (archives) that says "Extremely Boring Documents About Taxes". A loose computer cord near the box connects to the server.

When you boot up the computer screen on the terminal, you immediately close a dialogue box that says "File Transfer Complete". GhostOS is a bit difficult to navigate, but you find that someone's been looking at some of the servers encrypted files, which are under a broad heading, the "Paranormal Test Subject Register". There's six subheadings split into two categories: METAL and DARK, and each one needs a separate password to access.

  • [METAL] - Gaddget Power Codenames
  • [METAL] - Gaddget Inspiration Reference Material
  • [METAL] - Gaddget Transferal/Power Portrification
  • [DARK] - Ghost Power Codenames
  • [DARK] - Gadd's Experimental Audio Log Transcriptions
  • [DARK] - Power/Personality Re-Alignment.

You minimise a bunch of boring files that detail the mansion's expenses and particularly expensive items (it seems there's six in total), as well as some news articles about Gadd's acquisition of the mansion itself, and articles about Evershade Valley as a whole. Someone's left an open game of Color Fun on the computer. You close its tab when a voice says "that's actually dark-pigmented chartreuse, dipshit".

A text file that says PASSWORDS.txt is present, and opening it, it just says "I forgor ☹". Helpful.

You open a new tab for GhoulTube, and type in your link, before blaring the noise to listen to it. You'll receive this result in your Test Chamber.

You kick up some junk in the Rafters, and find there's a few musical instruments and old-timey junk grouped together under a tarp labelled "Conservatory", including a spare gramophone. Careful now, this is the only other one here.

You blow into the horn, and it spews dust everywhere, but makes a loud, warbled, brassy horn noise. Due to lacking any kind of method of changing the airflow, it's only capable of producing a single note.

Check on the car in the garage
You check out the car in the garage here. In Evershade Valley hills. For knowledge.

Someone's clearly been smooching the bonnet of the car, and its covered in handprints compared to its once-polished appearance. It doesn't appear to have been started as the fuel level is still full. You bip the horn and it bips happily.

Search the garage for Professor Gadd Zooks famous Polternet 4000 and use it to search the 2F Amethyst Wing for any signs of Mona and attempt to catch her with the net.

With another long dreg from his Cigar, and fresh smoke poring from his eye-sockets, Vigil begins to reminisce about his night.

vigil_intense_neutral.png

...The early hours passed while I dug a fresh grave, for I hath heard the bell toll once more. Tis the familiar tone which immediately informed me that Mona was the one fated to die tonight, but it's dreary resonance... there is... nothing, I can do once the bell hath chimed. Miss Mona... I shall preserve thy body until this mess doth conclude.

vigil_mad.png

Tanner... thy continued treachery in light of Miss Mona's passing wounds me even deeper, but nay. I trust in Gadd's plan, his Grand Experiment, to vanquish this demonic foe.

Mine own time is spent outside amongst the mansion grounds, where I monitor the Complex and Valley both. Yet, I stayed closer towards the Forest and Garden areas this eve. In future, mayhaps this groundskeeper's time oft better bespent wandering yonder freezeflame dunes of the North, given the concentration of tonight's nightwalker activity.

While digging in the early hours, I did note Subject Thanos departing from the Garage, and that burly fellow set off for the sands. Subject MCD did approach after that, and did inquire what mine favorite food is.

vigil_happy.png

It's... Jelly Pops, made from Jammin Jelly. A classic house recipe from the 1800s. He then departed back to the Garage swiftly.

A short while later, Subject Reigen passed through to the Graveyard while I was in the forest. He was looking at the tombstones, before I... gently reminded him that the Mausoleum is not his. The man scurried off towards the front garden, and I returned to the forest.

Soon thereafter, I noted the exterior Clock Tower's hands were pointing skyward, indicating the middle of the night hath passed. A short while later, from the distant windows of the kitchen, I did spy a great burst of light and fire, which blew out the shutters.

After all was quiet, towards the very end of the night, I took mine lantern and did a solitary lap of the grounds, as I have done every night... for centuries.

vigil_intense_neutral.png

As I mentioned earlier, I did note quite many footprint paths hath begun fading from the whirling sands and snows of the north covering them, but two were treaded rather recently. One did cross from the Train Exhibit, through the snow to the sands, before heading towards the Aviation exhibit, and the other went from the Aviation Exhibit to the clockwork court and back again. The bats in the Crows Nest were rather calm, not flapping around or causing a ruckus. The sands felt... different, tonight. I then spied a most grand mess on the Ice Lake.

It was then, I passed around the snowy grounds to the rocky grounds. There... hanging from the Terminal, I spotted Mona's corpse. Alas, the toll is... absolute. I noted her livings scattered in the snow, which consisted of a few foam weapons, her whistle, and her burnt safety manual Gaddget. Protecting yond safety officer and her frequent journeys to death's door is a momentous task, but, spying the burnt tome, that lass' Last Resort had triggered, that Master Gadd's design had worked, and Miss Mona's ghost was hopefully hiding somewhere safe.

vigil_wink.png

Finishing mine journey, I did note that many of the vegetables hath been plundered from the fields. Master Gadd uses a device and special fertilizer to expedite their growth, should any of thee require more. Finally, the morning sun rose from the hills, and I retired to the mausoleum for what came next.

Investigate the front garden
You examine the Front Garden. There are a lot of missing vegetables, the harvest was bountiful. There are plenty of footprints here, passing from both entrances from the adjacent grounds, with some entering the Foyer.

tanner_tired.png

Yeah, yeah. Testimony. I'm doing it. Vigil, can you stop glaring at me, man? You'll come around as well, when Mona does, I'm sure.

tanner_excited.png

Gadd's treatment of us spirits hasn't been great, y'feel? I'm sick of his experiments. We should be running the show, and King Boss is going to be great for us. I feel it. Maybe... the rest of you will see it too.

King Boss told me upfront to keep my scythe ready to reap souls when you guys bite it. There's a device Gadd experiments with constantly in the Dark Lab, called the Portrificationiser. It's... kinda cool. It'll take the lingering spirits I can snag with my scythe and convert them into paintings... forever. I'm sure King Boss has more to say about that later.

Of course, Mona was a bit of a surprise. Gadd gave her a fun little book that instantly converted her spirit to a Wraith, but now she's stuck like that until he can fix her. Well, with Gadd out of the picture, she'll soon see what it means to be dead... permanently.

tanner_neutral_talk.png

I spent my night in the Mining Sites, since I like collecting gems and other junk beneath the mansion, and now I'll have plenty of time to do that without Gadd barking at me to bring him coffee all the time. I couldn't do that tonight however. King Boss had me cleaning up after some demonic spirit escaped from the Tomb. A group of ghost rats was apparently gnawing at the door pretty soon when the night began.

Guess they wanted to join the ghost party as well. I was told to leave them alone by the boss initially, but... eugh. Sorry, Sir Ratigan. Between them and the ghost bats bugging me in the some of the mines, I'm very much not one for small mammals. I guess that's why I like Miss Portricia... haha...

So, a lot of you guys were buddy-buddy tonight. Lulu and Reigen were hitting up the same rooms on B1F early in the night, Jackson and Boo #1268 as well. I saw Mona was by herself early in the night grabbing some documents from the Dark Lab, but I heard she got hitched with some guy already later on, and their relationship was... explosive, heh. Thanos and Ghouligrab paired up, and headed to the Maintenance Lab for... something, then the Guard Hall for something else. So was Lash... he punched one of my minecarts towards the Pit Mine. Ugh. At least he didn't disable the gate at the end.

tanner_excited.png

Before I saw Thanos and Ghouligrab, but just after I saw Mona go into the Dark Lab, I met with Miss Portricia. That cat really knows her stuff about scythes, hehe... ahem.

A while after, I get a ghostly call from King Boss about ghost rats he'd just seen in his office, so I check out the Tomb, and lo and behold, there's a few of them stuck gnawing on the door like idiots. I take care of them with my sharpened scythe, sending them back to the underworld, but man, what a pain.

When I finally finish catching the last one, I return to the Basin, where shortly after, Thanos bursts through from the Haunted Catacombs in a rush. Then, he starts like... jumping around and trying to break the ice. Freak. I tell him not to gnaw on the door, and then leave him to do... whatever he's trying to do, and head to the Cinder Mine, where Lash enters and starts telling me off about not letting myself submit to a different boss who's gonna treat me just as crummily. Whatever, man! The new boss is heaps better than Gadd was.

tanner_angry_talk.png

...I'm not surprised King Boss didn't call me for back-up, even though it would have been really cool to fight with him. I'm not surprised. I mean, he can take you all on at once, yeah. Maybe next time.

I move on to the Roundhouse after meeting with Lash to check out the carts, where I hear like... sobbing, from a room nearby. Well, not my problem.

tanner_neutral_talk.png

The cargo lift and shaft were used quite a lot tonight. Lot of ups and downs, just like life and death y'know? But like, while I was hearing a bit of rumbling from the commotion in the Foyer upstairs, I also heard someone skulking around the central hallways, alone. The shaft came down, and then a while later, the Cargo lift went up, and all was quiet for the rest of the night.

I went back to my usual pad, the hideout, and noticed someone's decided to melt some of those chests at some point. Well, they'll help you more than me, I guess. There's one left if you wanna grab it later.

what musical instruments are in the rafters (and make everyone play any horn-like objects for a fun impromptu musical concert)
You note there's a few woodwind and brass instruments, a marimba, and some drums, and with the small collection of instruments, you form an improvised band with some other willing test subjects and try playing music.

It sounds like total shit. I mean progressive indie music core. Thankfully the Grand Experiment isn't the Big Band Experiment, so you quickly disband after not releasing any albums.

also throw one of the many one of a kind clocks down the hollow tree for fun
King Blocky Boo lets you into his collection of many one of a kind clock replicas, where you grab one and throw it down the stairs. It makes a crashing noise when it hits the stairs, that echoes through the Hollow Tree, and sends sparkly glass, golden springs and gears echoing tumbling through the air, with the main portion of the clock embedding itself in the dirt in the Tree Roots with a thud.

Rats...?
Mhm, mhm. In the Horology Office... are there similar claw marks to what's in the Rafters?

I had thought maybe a Fauvist student did Miss Mona in... I wanted to ask them for their style's ins-and-outs. But it might just be the rats.
Fascia doesn't like rats very much. I'm okay with them.
They're hard to work with, though, so I understand.

If it's okay, would the new Maestro be willing to talk about his night, too?
Fascia says he looks like a Cubist Maestro's work in and of himself.

In the Horology Office... are there similar claw marks to what's in the Rafters?
You examine the Horology Office generally, but keep an eye out for claw marks that match the ones in the Rafters. The office has an overturned cabinet behind the clockmaker's desk, once full of clocks that now lay smashed on the ground amidst a pile of sticky, soapy fluid. There are pieces of some kind of broken pot amongst the mess, as well. The Faberge clock is missing, but you think you know where it went.

You don't notice any claw marks, but under the constant darklight of the studio, you spot a few glowing rodent footprints around the place, mostly heading towards the Library. The Rafters' claw marks are much wider than you think a rat, or ghost rat, would be capable of leaving, however.

Fascia and I will take a Darklight Torch to the hallway directly outside the Armory and Rafters, the Rafters themselves, and the Terminal.
Does anything show up? Especially around the claw marks in the Rafters.

Oh, and the slime on Miss Mona's hands. I think we should check that more closely. Along with shining Darklight on it.

Take a last look at the sketch I made as tribute for enhancing Puma's memory.

1780213050608.png

It will no longer be needed. Discard it.

...

I procure a well of ink from somewhere on the premises, then move to the rafters. I bend down and run my claws over the coarse wooden surface, looking at the dust that accumulates on my scales. I mix this together with the ink.

Then I dip a quill into it and write on a piece of paper:

What hostile actions were performed in the Sapphire Wing (disregarding the Armory and Nautical Exhibit), from the time I met Mona in the Parlor to the time Puma saw those people from the lake?

I fold the paper and put it into my files. Then I invoke my power to obtain the answers I seek.

Well, this is a bit disappointing... what a sloppy job for a murder to start us off! No flair, no panache, barely even any cunning! What a shame. And I suppose you all wish to hear of my exploits for the night? Very well. I started off from my lodgings, departing alongside Thanos Automobile and that- detective, urgh- Luke Atmey. I made my way to the Studio to obtain some supplies, and then off to the Workshop for a little project of my own design. Finishing my plots there, I made my way into the coatroom, to grab a few more items I required and then returned to the studio, passing Portricia Knightley on the way in, and encountering Lupin III in there, obtaining a canvas for himself. Following this, I headed off to inspect the mechanisms located at the bottom of the clock tower- thankfully from the other side of the barrier, I personally have no interest in inspecting clockworks that closely again. Heading off to assess the value of the automobile in the garage, I passed Mr Concrete Donkey and Lee Chaolan following their own pursuits in the area. In fact, as I left to peruse the Archives, I saw Mr Chaolan again, as well as noting the smell of paint within the Foyer. I took some time to familiarise myself with the difference engine in there, and following that, I had business to attend to on the upper floor- encountering not a soul on the way until I reached the kitchen. There, I once again made acquaintance with Lupin III, as well as Lulu and the poor soul we lost tonight, Mona- at which point she did still have her helmet. Lulu left for the dining room, and as I too left the room, some... shadowy figure entered the room. As to who it is, I can't quite say- though I must remark, their timing does not paint them in the best of lights. As I passed through the West Gallery, on the way to better examine that door to the "mysterious" room, to further disrupt my evening, some sort of lunatic set off an explosion while I was en route, shaking the floor. I'll admit, I am yet to have any luck with the door, as Victor can attest, seeing as he found it fit to watch me as I did so. I made my way back, seeing Winter head into the Library, and coming across the site of the explosion in the kitchen, and for the third time, quite humourously, Lupin III, unconscious and with his wounds freshly dressed. How dull. Not like his painting, however which, quite oddly was unscathed. As I headed back to my room, I did procure a little intelligence- someone like me is quite well connected, if I do say so myself- and I can tell you, that the horn some of you mention- it came from the Sapphire Wing, after the kitchen explosion, and before some other discordance within the wing. If it helps with your timelining at all. Additionally, on my way through the crow's nest, I did see someone stalking around the grounds, heading from the ice to the sand, stopping just briefly in the dunes before continuing. I made my way back to my lodgings, arriving at almost the same time as Portricia.

Now onto the case at hand- this business with the lost helmet, amongst other things, is rather odd. So, those of you who also saw Mona in the night- when you saw her, did she have it with her or not? I'm unsure if this will lead us anywhere, but it does seem like a line of questioning we could eliminate quickly.
