Nobody made a thread about this game, so I went ahead and did so. We finally have a brand new mainline Mega Man game after roughly 9 years! I'm super hyped for this game and will absolutely play the heck out of it when it releases in 2027. Plus, it's a new Mega Man game for Strategy Wing! ;D

Oh, and there's also a contest for Robot Master designs. Just like many of the old games! It's also worldwide, so you can send submissions if you want!

Note on the Robot Master contest if anyone plans to submit: Deadline is January 1st 2026 at midnight PST. Less than a month to work with. And while there's no point in reiterating the rules, see the site instead, there's some things that pop out.
  • Entries are made through Twitter posts, so you'll need a Twitter account
  • One Twitter account can submit multiple entries, but only one entry per account can make into the judging rounds
  • Entries will have to pass both internal Capcom judgement and Capcom fan judgement in order to win
Draw, Mega Man fans, for everlasting peace!
Somehow I don't think making more Robot Masters is what will bring peace.

Calling all Capcom ID users for the Robot Master Contest User Vote, open til February 5th. There are 20 designs and I believe everyone gets only one vote.
https://www.capcom-games.com/megaman/do/en-us/contest/

I don't feel like making a Capcom ID for this, I don't really need more accounts, but I'm rooting for Veldt Man.
From the Wikipedia article
"Veld (/vɛlt/ or /fɛlt/, Afrikaans and Dutch: veld, field), also spelled veldt, is a type of wide-open, rural landscape in Southern Africa. Particularly, it is a flat area covered in grass or low scrub, especially in the countries of South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Zimbabwe, and Botswana... Trees are not abundant; frost, fire, and grazing animals allow grass to grow, but prevent the build-up of dense foliage."

Feels like most of these are cleaning based? What it felt like looking through the designs

Personally rooting for Sweeper Woman, but there's a lot of stellar ones here

This was mentioned on Discord (and I've seen proof myself) but the artist who created Vac Woman is confirmed to be a sex offender and is not a good person at all. I'm unable to vote (didn't wanna create a Capcom account) and thank goodness I didn't because I would've chosen Vac Woman without knowing the controversy.

If you haven't voted yet but are planning to do so, please do not vote for Vac Woman. It's hard to believe that Capcom didn't disqualify that submission (at least not yet).

Have what appears to be all of Twinkle Girl's stage on Nintendo Switch 2, as a treat. The video does not show Twinkle Girl's intro dialogue or the end of her boss fight. It does show the entirety of Astro Man R's boss fight, which is a component of Twinkle Girl's stage.

What happened to bosses having invincibility frames? I mean, since one of the many chip upgrades is rapid fire, it makes sense to allow that to function against bosses, but it just looks weird after pushing through Mega Man 1-6 where spamming buster into bosses doesn't work.

EDIT: The background art is really pretty.

Do we think Dual Override will have a shield Special Weapon? They've been standard In the franchise ever since Mega Man 4, showing up in every further game except for Mega Man 8. However, I think this game's mechanics discourage the concept so it won't happen.
  1. At least one of the Custom Chips provides a shield.
  2. During Override, the player cannot switch Special Weapons without ending Override. This makes the use case of blocking an incoming shot by putting up the shield weapon less than ideal.
    1. Certain Custom Chips make Override automatically activate at low health, a position where desperation shielding would be encouraged if not for the inability to switch Special Weapons while remaining In Override. Even using a shield weapon normally gets more difficult unless the player is being very careful to have it active before a hit that puts them into Override.

Mega Man: Dual Overide recently revealed Proto Man's gameplay style in a trailer. It also got a segment in today's Nintendo Direct, which used that footage but also revealed the new Mega Man and Proto Man amiibo. (No note on amiibo functionality yet though.) The official website was updated to note these additions.

From what I can glean, Proto Man's shots get less range than Mega Man's by default. Where Mega Man defeats Robot Masters to copy their Special Weapons, Proto Man defeats Robot Masters to use their data to create new Shield Actions. The website says Proto Man accesses Shield Actions using button combinations, implying that they're all available at once instead of needing to switch which one is currently active. Basically, they made Proto Man into Zero, thus completing the logical progression from Proto Man -> Zero -> Proto Man.exe -> Proto Man. I'm not sure is the right call considering Mega Man X will presumably get a sequel at some point and Zero will be in that, so in one sense this is diluting the unique qualities of Mega Man Classic. Three Shield Actions were revealed in the trailer: an uppercut, a damaging airdash, and a boomerang shield throw. There was also a double jump, which might be a Shield Action but it also might not.

We also saw some more stages (no Robot Master reveals yet) and some more enemy types. There was a new Sniper Armor (those mechs Sniper Joes use in Mega Man 2). A flying take on the Metal Potton is another boss.

The Capcom Spotlight today didn't show much new for this game, aside from getting to hear director Shinya Ikuta and producer Hiroyuki Minamitani talk about the game. They did say that there are over 50 custom chips, but there's probably an article somewhere that already says so. (I'm tuning out of broader Mega Man coverage in fear of leaks.) The footage did have some new Proto Man clips and explicitly confirms that his shots have less range. He's also generally supposed to be more powerful than Mega Man. There was also a slashing attack that appears to be Proto Man's equivalent to Mega Man's Charge Shot. Bro is not beating the prototype Zero allegations.

There's a Youtube video but its'age restricted so if you don't want to use a Google account, you'll have to use Twitch. Mind that Twitch videos expire, so if you check here a year later and the Twitch link doesn't work, you're out of luck. You want to start at 16:50 for the Twitch broadcast.

EDIT: Found a video that's just the Mega Man segment, and it isn't age restricted.

We got our second (official) Robot Master reveal. Meet Jet Man, the probable source of Jet Stringer! He attacks with missiles and air support from other jets.

Mighty No. 6 Aviator? Is that you?

Anyway, the end of the trailer also showed Mega Man using what I believe is Astro Crush, Astro Man's Special Weapon. Which is crazy if true, because as a general rule Mega Man games only allow the player to get Special Weapons from the main eight Robot Masters, and not any throwback encounters like Doc Robot and Weapons Archive. I assumed Astro Man R fell into the throwback category but apparently there's a way to get Astro Crush.
