KO a Character: MLP Friendship is Magic Episodes (Seasons 1-9)

I remember this episode had some okay spectacle regarding the pet competition narrowly keeping me from outright disliking it but I remember finding it to be extremely predictable (gee, which pet will win, it's not like there's a 100% chance it'll be the turtle!) which I might have put aside more except it wasn't told compellingly enough to be good. I remember Mr. Enter thought this episode was awful which I disagree with but this is as far as it's going

Dang the first episode in my preferred S1-3 Top 5 was cut, especially when it was my favorite of those 5 eps and seemed like it had better chances of making it
In fairness I remember cutting The Perfect Pear before making the Top 5 for the Seasons 6/7 game despite it being #4 on the list just because most people would have had it win that game and I wanted something different to win

EDIT: I really liked Winter Wrap Up too, I can see how a person or two might see it as the song as overshadowing the rest of the episode but I found the rest of the episode to be pleasant as well. That one was a 9/10 for me so while I definitely wouldn't push for it to make the final round I would have kept it further but oh well.

Next up is TSSCS6000 because it is clunkily written that the Apple family is down to make a bet that ends up costing them Sweet Apple Acres if they lost.

lesson zero was my favorite episode of this batch lol rip. still too early to "make things interesting" personally, although i didnt know you liked winter wrap up that much lmao that's fully a 5/10 for me. maybe that's a hot take on my part

i got sniped on my cut again so i'm just going to finally pull the trigger on this one. some funny moments here but the moral leaves me with mixed feelings in the end

I should say as the thread's creator, while it's not a big deal, in general try to stay away from eliminating episodes based on a "these episodes are good/have fans so it's more interesting to eliminate them to shake things up" rationale. I know you were intending that move as one more of a one-time case but I'd prefer that an episode should be eliminated based on one preferring the other episodes left to it. It'd be different if there's an episode that you distinctly don't want to win, on its own standards, but are cutting it a bit earlier in the thread than you would otherwise to avoid the episode accelerating due to popularity reasons

Wow if you were going to cut Cider 6000 next the move I cut it, that's uncanny as Bridle Gossip and Feeling Pinkie Keen were my two next intended cuts, even though in the reverse order from you.

I wouldn't have cut Read it and Weep anywhere near as soon, but I agree with Feeling Pinkie Keen having funny moments but a poor execution of its moral, even though that seems to be the universal consensus on the episode. Bridle Gossip is mixed for me too because while I found the Poison Joke gags to be funny and I liked that it introduced Zecora it's extremely awkward in its implications that the ponies distrust Zecora just because of how she looks as a zebra.

At this point I at least slightly like everything left, so I'll cut the episode where there are a lot of minor problems as well as not having as many moments of impact as anything else here so I still care about it less than anything else. I'm cutting the episodes with longer names recently lol

i'll generally only go for things that could be more popular if i genuinely just don't like them that much compared the remaining episodes. otherwise i'll save the Big Moves for the end where everything left is something i'm happy with making it

this is probably a good episode but it never fully stood out to me, also is probably my least favorite of the hearth's warming episodes?

Out of curiosity by this did you mean "things that are more popular"?

This is getting a bit harder because anything I'm eliminating from here on out is a 7/10 and falls into the territory of "good just not as much as the other episodes" so I suppose I'll heavily use my 2016 S1-5 rankings in succession like I have this game so far.

Next up is Griffon the Brush Off, while I like the episode now I suppose I'll eliminate it for that I used to not like it so much unlike most of the other episodes, as while it has an excellent moral it can sometimes feel a bit clunky or preachy about it such as how constantly they say "cool" or "lame" which feels out of line with how much people even when young say it.

EDIT: I also like how evenly distributed the episodes left are between the three seasons fractionwise

i actually have always really liked griffon the brush off and wanted it to stick around a little longer, but i expected it to go at any time. glad it made it this far, though

looking at my list i *think* i'm also at the 7's and up so yeah it's getting tougher, but it's time to go for one of the two parters. and while there's two i feel should go pretty soon, crystal empire is my personal least favorite of this batch. my general lack of caring for s3 probably doesn't help (though the remaining four are the highlights imo). still a solid episode though

Crystal Empire isn't my least favorite two parter out of these three seasons but which one is doesn't have much time left

I'll get rid of Ponyville Confidential next, while its edgier/harsher tone is interestingly executed it does make the ponies come across as a bit contradictory that they don't mind seeing their friends be gossiped about but then hate that it happens to them, as well as kinda insensitive.

Sweet and Elite is a good Rarity episode. I remember that its heart did have moments of impact on me the first time I watched it. However, the other episodes I still remember always liking more and finding more interesting.

I like how right now it looks like I really don't like S2 since this is my fifth cut out of six being from S2, but I do, and some episodes from other seasons are definitely coming up for me.
