Dire, Dire Docks coin snafu

Anybody know how to get 100 coins in Dire Dire Docks in SM64 after the sub leaves?? I'm 100%ing the game for the first time and most of the coins go away with the sub. I can only get like 68 without it.

On the contrary, you're advised to play the stage with the submarine gone if you want to get 100 coins or more.

(Recently, I heard that all 106 are possible to get with the sub still there. However, unless you are looking for a challenge, I still suggest to beat the second Bowser first.)"

...with 106 being the total amount of coins in Dire Dire Docks, outstandingly close to the amount you need to collect to get a Power Star.
