yeah maybe someone should actually try to explain the rules of save a character now

Each turn, the player can take one of the characters in danger and move them into the safe pile (or spared in this case I guess). That character can not be eliminated for the rest of the round. When there are just two characters still in danger, then one of the two can be eliminated from the game by the next player. The survivors then return to the "In Danger" pile and the process restarts. This continues until only one character remains.
