Ideas for a remake of Paper Mario.

Badly by Mario standards. Just under a million is average for series like metroid or smaller Nintendo franchises.

Paper Mario sold horribly, with not even a million hits, which every other Mario RPG has gotten at the very least.

Well I know for a fact that The Thousand Year Door outsold Paper Mario 64. It did better if am not mistaken.

It came at the end of the N64's life cycle.

true

and the n64 wasnt that popular to begin with

iirc the most popular game, sm64, only had something like 6-8 million copies sold

It was actually 11.62 million.

Another contributor to Paper Mario's low sales was lack of advertising from Nintendo.

It was completely overshadowed by games like Majora's Mask, Perfect Dark, Banjo-Tooie, Mario Tennis, Mario Party 3, Kirby 64, and probably some others I might be forgetting.

All the Mario RPGs have this problem. They could be as popular as the more mainstream games if Nintendo would advertise them that way. Their gameplay is just as solid as in the main series (Exceptions: maybe SPM and Sticker Star) plus they also have story and characterization going for them. The fact that they sell so poorly is depressing.

I don't buy that. I saw commercials for the rpgs all the time. The reason they don't sell as much is because rpgs in general don't do as well as platformers do.

Pokemon is an exception, not the rule.

Another thing. Yeah there may be TV commercials for them, but when's the last time you saw a promotion for a Mario RPG on Nintendo's website, or their characters appearing in the general Mario promotions? The closest thing I've seen is Dream Team on Year of Luigi promotions, but even then it easily got the least promotion of all the major Year of Luigi games.
