I'd say Toad Town Toadwood Forest in Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time. You have Toads laying dead and strapped to trees, and the music is also downright depressing. What makes it worse is that I know they are being killed for rocket fuel.

that area where you fight Dark Bowser in BIS

it's depressing because the game is basically over once you're there

Holly Jolly village and Toad Town in Partners in Time. Potholes and destroyed buildings everywhere and no people around aside from the Toad Grandmas

battlerock galaxy in smg depressed me for some reason.

Dream's Deep from Mario & Luigi: Dream Team.

Like, just seeing all those messages about Luigi makes it such a sad moment. Like, you can just see the love he has for Mario, but at the same time you see all his insecurities, all his emotions of being stuck in his brother's shadow, and how much he wishes to be like his brother.

Not to mention the fact that the music and the design of the area, especially with the Luigi Shadows, make you get a shiver down your back. It really is such a deep moment, hence the name. It really was a pretty dark and depressing area of the game, especially compared to the rest of it.

I found that kind of amusing for some reason. I guess because the music sounds like a tainted jingle bells.

Space Junk sounds incredibly sad, but soothing. Seeing all that abandoned junk kind of reminds me of ruins, but in outer space.

I found the destroyed Sammer Kingdom depressing and creepy for some reason. The music didn't really help either.

I'd say this as well. It does say something to say a haunted area or a desolate frozen place can be depressing.

But it's on a whole 'nother level when there's an area where there's almost nothing left. A whole world with barely no traces of it's existence beyond the occasional rubble.

I felt very depressed after finishing World 1 of Paper Mario: Sticker Star.

I haven't picked up the game since.

I haven't even finished World 1. I just couldn't play it anymore.

I also forgot to mention Vim Factory from Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time. Vim, it's the life source for Toads. In Vim Factory, they don't generate more vim, they suck it out of the Toads for rocket fuel to kill more Toads. Great.
