Sony officially stopped caring about the Vita.

I think it's more like they decided to make it an extension to the PS4 rather than a different system.
 
That was pretty much evident from Sony's conference (a focus on indie support, I mean). You don't seem to have actually read that article, though, as the issue is that PS3-like experiences are less in demand since the release of the PS4. People's standards regarding graphical quality have gone up, which has nothing to do with the 3DS.

Nothing at all. They're a fresh and relaxing break from the monotony and staleness of the gaming industry.
