Re: Changes to Veteran Characters
I'm going to have opinions on characters I will likely use frequently.
One change I see for Mario is that his u-air seems to have a flashy particle effect.
Other than that, I can't decide for myself if Mario really received any noticeable changes. Aesthetically, he makes funny faces when he gets hit. On the downside, he retains them angry eyes.
Mario needs more range, and his jumping abilities need to be heavily improved. After all, he is Jumpman. I can't see that happening, though. His d-special was nearly worthless compared to the Mario Tornado, so I'm meh on this. Unless it gets seriously buffed (how it's shown off as Rosalina diverts the thing doesn't help), it's pretty much a waste of a move. I want Mario to have a reliable aerial finisher so he can really put his jumping abilities to a good use. I hope Mario's Final Smash is something good this time, since the Mario Finale, while flashy, is a horrible Final Smash.
I hope Link is much stronger this incarnation. He got an inexcusable nerf in Brawl, rendering him to be even worse than his Super Smash Bros. and Melee counterparts. Why did Link need a nerf? Just... why? I don't really want Link's down-aerial to be a meteor smash since it and u-air work as a great, powerful finisher, and making it a meteor smash is going to make its use more situational. I hope u-air is going to be as good as its previous incarnations. I'm glad the spin attack has been re-buffed. It didn't make Link broken in Melee, so again, Brawl's nerf is questionable.
Fox is already a pretty good character, and it's not like his lack of his multiple jab move will be a huge loss anyway. It's a laggy move in most games, and Fox prefers his tilts, aerials, and u-smash anyway. Well, I just hope Fox doesn't get a major nerf. He was also better in Melee than in Brawl.
Kirby's Hammer keeps getting better and better, doesn't it? While I'm not going to use Final Smashes dreadfully often, his Ultra Sword is a step up from his crappy Cook Final Smash. Kirby's Stone ability should act as the Stone in Project M, IMO. Not as strong, but more useful overall.
