A little too much miitomo for my liking; I don't really have any interest in it. All in all, it's a pretty neat little system they've got going here. Can't wait to see what gets added to the rewards.

im downloading miitomo rn but as far as i can see you can only really use it by adding twitter/facebook friends and i have none for either (and even if i made a facebook my irl friends definitely wouldn't play this)

that is somehow more than i was expecting

(they're both from here so that's slightly less impressive)

I like how so far you can ever so slowly build up your amounts thanks to the weekly sign-ins to Miiverse and the eShop for Platinum Points so eventually after a while you could have alot built up over time and you'll have enough when something really cool is out that you can get with Platinum points. (I suppose the unfortunate thing is they're not permanently there as they expire 6 months after you've purchased them)

It's a shame though that Gold Points don't count the 3DS & Wii U games you've purchased already. (Or at least not yet?) Cause then I'm sure alot of us would have at least a serviceable amount of those already. Plus there doesn't seem to be a way to add points through games you bought physically yet.

Oh, and in case you missed it, Nintendo of America fired an employee because she was the target of harassment from GamerGate. Time to get mad.

I don't know what's worse, the internet cesspool of shit doing shitty things to innocent people or Nintendo not doing anything to protect her from it.

Obviously the former is more worse since they actively tried to damage her reputation (and probably succeeeded) not to mention probably the ton of insults she got. Internet and fanbases are a fickle thing. especially with removed content.

Normally I'd discourage this practice, but this is effing 2016, where worldwide releases are supposed to be the norm. There's absolutely no excuse to release this app later in other countries, and the first opening week is like the most important week for activity for anyone. Just, screw Nintendo. And fuck region-locking.

it's not like the app costs anything anyway so it's not like downloading the apk is morally wrong...

The article says that she wasn't fired due to her criticism, and in fact was due to her having a second job that “conflict with Nintendo’s corporate culture”. Her Twitter account also talks about her being fired after Nintendo found out she was moonlighting for a second job, which she apparently thought was allowed and Nintendo apparently thought wasn't allowed. Maybe it's an untimely coincidence, maybe the threats have something to do with it, but I don't think it's fair to completely judge the situation when all of the information isn't out there. Besides that, how can Nintendo actually protect her? She hasn't received any threats in person, only online, and it's not like if people will actually listen if Nintendo puts up a sign saying "don't be a dick". People were looking for a scapegoat after some of the localization changes, and I highly doubt that the people sending the threats would be dissuaded by anything Nintedo said.

Nintendo wouldn't have investigated her if those people hadn't complained about her, nor would they have cared that much. this is just nintendo taking out their trash

Right, and you know that how? For all you know, Nintendo already had the information long before the controversy happened, and they were just confirming their sources. Painting one side as irrevocable villain doesn't do much good for the other side, in my opinion.

I still don't think that's on grounds for being fired tbh, especially when you take what she said about it out of context

It's not even on pedophilia, technically and specifically, it's on the legal issues of child porn (mainly the punitive measures of it), which child porn does have close ties to pedophilia, but it's not quite the same subject.

IIRC, she made an essay back in college which covered the pedophilic laws in Japan, making a point against the country strengthening them, but it was mostly about respecting Japanese culture. I can't find the full body, but I think that it'd be weird if Nintendo didn't know about it before they hired her.
