Characters confirmed to return in SSB4

I'm just honestly surprised that Yoshi has not been confirmed yet for Smash Bros.

Seems like such a surprise for a main character from the original to not be confirmed yet.

Either they are just trollin' us, they have a big surprise with Yoshi, or - hopefully not - he will not be in Super Smash Bros. 4.
This is what I'm thinking. He has two games coming out, so maybe he'll be changed based on one of those games. I'm hoping for Yoshi and Baby Mario.

Baby Mario as a playable character?

I would start waiting in front of Gamestop until the game came out.

And Baby Luigi would probably be pissed because not only would Yoshi exist in that game, but Baby Mario without Baby Luigi would just pissed her off.

Anyone who thinks Yoshi is going anywhere is clearly delusional.
Or in BLOF's case, hopeful.

Nah, I don't think so. Baby Luigi is realistic. She KNOWS Yoshi's coming back, as much as she hates him.

That's why I said, I'd like to win the lottery too

Oh, Nintendo, if you'll ever do that, I'll send a pretty gift with many ribbons and flowers and a tasty cake :]

personally i doubt they'll make any big changes to yoshi. his moveset might get changed a bit but i doubt he'd get changed to yoshi and baby mario or anything like that.

Even though Yoshi isn't in my Mario character list, he has a very big chance since Nintendo make new games for him.

Well, there are already several major Mario games for 3DS/WiiU so far, does it mean all main characters can be in?

For babies, there are many restrictions for them so they're not ideal choices.

Big chance is an understatement. Yoshi is part of the Original 12. No he's even more then that, he's part of the Original 8 starters from SSB64. Yoshi WILL be in this game, it's only odd that he's the only one of those 8 that haven't been shown already.

It actually took a year after Brawl's E3 Trailer for them to put Yoshi up anyway. So it's not like this is the only time they've delayed on showing off Yoshi. It's obvious they're just waiting to have him coincide for when either Yarn Yoshi or the Yoshi's Island coming up for the 3DS arrives.

It's not a major factor to determine which characters should be in. If Yoshi didn't even start his own games, I'd say that other Mario members should be included instead this time.

When SSB64 existed Yoshi already had been in Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, and Yoshi's Story. And his repeated appearences in other Mario games also cement him in. New games for a character also don't really apply to all Smash characters. Is Ness getting a new game? Is there an Ice Climbers sequel? Do ROB and Mr. Game and Watch (Well technically there may have been Game & Wario but eh) have something for them soon?

I know we're talking about a character that usually appears somewhere in a Mario game. Even if just as a cameo (Ex: The Yoshi head planet in Super Mario Galaxy) so it's kinda different in comparison to retro and unexpected characters with no new games that will make a return in the next SSB anyway. The only thing recent games does is give us clues on who's going to be revealed next. As we did get Olimar (Pikmin 3), Luigi (M&L: Dream Team), Peach (Okay she didn't have a game release reveal, but it was the anniversary of the first SMB game I suppose), Toon Link (Wind Waker HD), and Sonic (Sonic Lost World). And sometimes when we expect one it didn't come after all as we got no Pokemon reveal for Pokemon X&Y's release.

Also Bowser never had his own game before Melee. If "starting in their own games" determined everything including the Mario representation, then Bowser would not have made it because the only real game you can technically count as a Bowser game is Bowser's Inside Story. I could include Peach too for not having her own game until Super Princess Peach. But we also have Super Mario Bros. 2 in her favor.

Being in a previous Smash game (ESPECIALLY if they were in more then one) is a factor that makes alot of characters more likely then most "shoe-in" newcomers. It wouldn't matter if Yoshi had new games coming up or not. The fact Yoshi appeared in 64, Melee, and Brawl all gives him high priority. Frequent Smash Appearances are a more major factor then games at this point. Every character that was a newcomer in Brawl that has not been revealed yet is in more danger then any of the 64 or Melee veterans that returned to Brawl. Yet most of them are pretty much expected to return. But my point is that appearing in at least two Smash games should give you a permanent spot for the rest of the franchise.
