I don't believe people are as enthusiastic about sand. The only popular form of sand I can think of is sand art. And I guess sand sculptures.

If by sand art you mean sand animation, then yes. It's amazing.

Ruby is my birthstone, so I like it. Obsidian is nice. Everyone loves diamonds, don't they? And I don't know if you'd actually consider it a type of rock, but geodes are freaking awesome.

Oh yes, birthstones. Mine is ruby in the US, ruby and cornelian (looks nice) in the UK and sapphire in India.
