So it's like, the apes are stockpiling bananas in case of a full-out war, but the kremlings try to sabotage them, and the games are all skirmishes in the cold war, before the real war breaks out after the trilogy and DK64, wherein Rool loses his tail.

Although, the Manky Kongs were badies even in the trilogy... maybe for the war, they tried to make peace (hence it was a Primate /Alliance/), but then betrayed them in the end because of the same fundamental differences in philosphy that kept them apart before.
