i honestly feel like the princess in that movie being named Daisy has nothing to do with an active intent to use that character, but rather the people making it knowing so little about the franchise that they thought Peach and Daisy were the same character and chose the latter name. And they...
Abiding by Smash's rules for what source material is valid? Fawful, Waluigi, Vivian, Geno, Paper Mario, Dimentio for my dream picks. Oh and Reclusa is a recent addition to that. I could list Mario RPG villains all day that I'd love to play as in Smash, but I'll just leave those there.
Casting...
I don't really think we're meant to think that hard about it. If there's a scene where a character using a smartphone will add to either the humor of the scene or further the plot in some way, they'll do it. In Super Paper Mario, both Watchitt and Jaydes use older models of cell phones. If that...
I'm gonna be 🤓 for a second because calling it just "Mario's" 40th anniversary bothers me every time i see it. Erm, Mario's 40th was July 9, 2021, the anniversary of his debut game Donkey Kong. This is just Super Mario Bros. 40th, both Mario and Luigi already existed before that game (and...
For years I've considered my favorite character in general to be a tie between Fawful and Dimentio, and they're both villains so it counts for this question too. But I also want to give a special shoutout to Count Bleck, he comes very close to tying too.
Love how DK is just unchanged. did they forget they already have a design for Baby DK or is he just immune because he isn't human? Or did they not want to bother with adapting Baby DK to the new DK design?
I think when it comes to Toad playable characters, outside the glaring omission of Toadsworth I don't necessarily need further Toad characters to have their own slots on rosters. Would be nice to have, but in the grand scheme of things I think the characters wholly original to the RPGs would be...
I don't like that he was phased out so I'm not ever gonna just accept that he's never coming back. He plays a distinct role and it hurts every time I see Nintendo just throwing regular Toad into that role instead. The movie straight up making a "Toadsworth if he was less distinct and more...
I feel like there's no good reason these have to be mutually exclusive. I'd pick all of the above. Though, I think care should go into which returning characters appear in another story driven RPG because it needs to work in tandem with the story without being forced. Unless you set out from the...
It had the opportunity to take its gimmick in a direction that would've stood out among all the NSMB games (include Wario) but chose to instead be so safe that the gimmick almost feels like it's only there to be the sole differentiating factor. It falls flat when otherwise the game does nothing...
Picked this up at an antique store a couple months ago. It's a Mario Kart 64 landline phone. As I don't have a landline, it's for display only.
Also present in the background are some rare Super Paper Mario trading cards from Japan (and a Burger King toy but I don't think it's particularly...
speaking of Mario Sports, there's a lot of talk of the potential of Mario Baseball returning and i have mixed feelings on that primarily because I feel like there is a 99.9% chance Toadsworth will be cut from the roster and I don't know if my heart can take that. The one series he got to be...
True. The RPGs didn't exclusively do it. But a lot of his modern traits can be traced back to SMRPG which predates Mario Party. I think Mario Party's take on Bowser is uniquely trolly though. That mf fucks with people not because it gets him anything, but just because he can and it's funny...
i honestly think the idea of a new villain who kidnaps the majority of the main cast is better suited to a Waluigi game. He'd be the only one the villain overlooks because the villain sees him as less than useless. Then he gets to prove that wrong by saving everyone (and fighting weird...
Yeah silent villains can be great if they are like that from conception, their character is designed around it, and there is no entertaining hammy personality they previously had established that the silent treatment acts as a replacement for. Bowser being silent imo only works in 2D Mario games...
I like how he was handled in Brothership. He was a reluctant ally who got to show off his love and protective nature over Bowser Jr. And his supporting cast, especially Jr. got to shine in that game as well. We got to see character angles from Bowser Jr's Journey explored again, which I was...
I'd argue Mario Party has characters that can represent specifically it as well. Are they Smash material as far as playable fighters are concerned? No, but I think they are still underutilized across the board. I'm talking characters like Tumble, Brighton & Twila, MC Ballyhoo, Koopa Kid...
you take that back this instant, we stan Vivian in this house 😠
My take is that every mainline and RPG story driven game is "canon" unless stated otherwise (like SMB3 is canonically a play for example). Though I'm iffy on games that make sweeping changes to the fundamental properties of the...
I have a lot more nostalgia for Double Dash. Wii has the more polished gameplay and the most developed modding scene. This one's hard to decide, but I will say Double Dash has a good amount of tracks that have yet to return and I really miss, like Wario Colosseum, Mushroom City, and GCN Bowser's...
In Smash Bros. I think he'd be a great choice. Easy way to have a distinct looking Mario and the games are full of moveset potential that would make him play entirely unique from normal Mario and Dr. Mario (who is much more similar in terms of moveset)
But for Mario spinoffs, it feels like that...
Yeah that is odd. Especially since there was anniversary art a while back that included BOTH King Neptunes, implying they're separate characters and not just different designs for the same character. But then again SpongeBob lore isn't exactly consistent.
Wittgenstein got tired of carrying FTG64's profile theme for 6 months, so Princess Mindy arrives to celebrate her upcoming appearance in the new SpongeBob game.
I mean my most wanted are still characters that would most likely have the Mario emblem (there's a chance Waluigi could get the Wario emblem or that the Mario RPGs become their own subseries if they get represented on the roster, but those are less likely outcomes imo)
tell that to F3, which is literally a traditional yearly event dedicated to announcing fangames (which this trailer was likely intended for), and most of them survived. I don't follow every fangame so i can't confidently say all, but I can say that Nintendo has a type for what is more likely to...
This is insanely impressive. I do lowkey wish it aimed for the E3 2010 visual style, but i understand that would multiply the workload by a lot since EVERY existing map would need to be completely remade. I'm looking forward to trying this out when it eventually releases.
hate to be THAT...
Update. Additional Mario plushies shown: Another Fawful, another Mario, another Waluigi, another Peach, Baby Peach, Yoshi, Bob-Omb, Morton, Goombella, Meowser, Fury Bowser, a new Luigi in a dress, Lario (bootleg Luigi with Mario's mustache)
Plushies present in the previous image but not in the...
my point was moreso her being kidnapped isn't actually a necessary component, it's an outdated trope and we've moved past that. at this point i'd consider any game that falls back on that trope to be uninspired. if they can manage a whole 2D Mario game without it, it's not a necessary trope. it...
I really don't think they hated game Peach, moreso that Peach, even in the games, has just evolved past the outdated damsel portrayal they initially created her for. Luigi serves as a better motivation for Mario to quest through this strange new world compared to a random princess he had no...
I want Bluster Kong to reappear
The voice actor for K. Rool in the DKC cartoon, who notably returned to play him in the fanmade animation "Return to Krocodile Isle" a couple years ago so he still has interest in playing the character.
This is a very video-heavy thread, so can we try to spoiler them? My browser straight up choked on this thread for a good 3-4 minutes and still failed to load some of the videos. It's good practice to spoiler videos in threads where a lot of videos are being posted.
Anyways, picking a single...
Updated the model for my OC to reflect some design tweaks I gave it in December 2024. The model will still probably be further tweaked when i need to use it more extensively, but this works for current projects.
The DS game was peak. The style was completely new for 2D Mario, it felt connected to SM64DS via the minigames, sound design and reuse of most models, and a good chunk of its bosses were unique enough takes on enemies to feel straight out of Paper Mario.
Dry Bowser was a novel idea that was...
You'd be surprised. I feel like every month or so I see a post somewhere that's a picture of Haru and says "am I the only one who absolutely hates this character's guts viscerally" and the entire comment section is all like "hear hear, worst character ever i spit on him"
I really don't care...
I don't consider that story canon, nor do I ship Haru with Peach, but I also don't ship Mario and Peach and would prefer the main cast's relationship status to remain ambiguous.
I thought it would be fun to take some Paper Mario artwork and recreate it from the ground up to distribute as SVG.
These obviously are still fanmade technically, but the intent is to be as close to what the source files of these renders would've been as possible.
Here are the ones I've done...
Honestly I think differentiating the wiki and forum favicons by having the forum one stay 3D is a good idea. Renders do keep improving, but at such a small scale I think the differences are too negligible to be visible. There's not gonna be another jump on the level of the one from the Wii to...
As long as they don't create yet another arbitrary bubble from which nothing created for it can escape from, fine.
I'd also like to see the opposite though: non-RPG Mario games that specifically use the RPGs' take on the world and characters. We've seen hints of it, early Mario Party games...
my take on this is that I'm just not a fan of having a species and then having the main character of that species be literally just named the name of the species. Imagine if there was a series where there were many humans, but the most important and notable one looked as average as possible and...
i see a lot of people claim that calling out Sunshine for its glitchiness without being even harsher on sm64 is hypocritical but I disagree.
Super Mario 64 is a very primitive game by today's standards and it's not flawless, but it also understands its own limits. It doesn't have overly...
I mean, as someone who isn't a Sonic fan, yeah. But I also don't think a Sonic-centric racing game should prioritize appealing to me over hardcore Sonic fans. Sure adding a character I like from a different franchise might pique my interest but I think every series should appeal to its own...
Please stop double posting, if you have anything to add to your previous post and nobody has posted since, edit it instead.
I've merged these posts for you so far.
my take on that is they should start letting more characters onto the rosters so they can have an extended presence in some form in the series rather than letting the vast majority of interesting new characters remain one-offs and lost to time. There hasn't been a shortage of interesting new...
