More people need to be introduced to Asterix and how simply amazing it is.

What are some Franco-Belgian comics that you have in mind that should be introduced? I mean besides Asterix and Tintin. I guess Spirou and Fantasio could be one, provided that it's not already there. I do know that they have the Marsupilami, which is far different from how Disney portrayed him.

Tangentially related, but I truly believe that if Doraemon were introduced earlier in the US, it would be a bigger icon than its strange sense of obscurity where it's well-known in some countries but unheard of over there. It's unfortunately not very easy to do so now.

Thank you for reading.

Gaston is one of them that sounds pretty neat and it takes place in the Spirou and Fantasio universe. It's a light-hearted jab at super serious, tight comic book office culture at Spirou by making the main character a lazy, laid-back walking karma bomb who goofs off by making dangerous lab experiments and gets others in trouble due to his naive nature and dumbness. Like, one of the characters in Gaston is an accountant who represents the publisher and cares only about money all day long.

Another one I know of is Lucky Luke, but I had never read it. My mother has been familiar with it though, as she's French and she's familiar with the era in the 1960-70's. She had told me that Disney already infiltrated France at this time and shorts of their films were pretty popular such as Sleeping Beauty and Snow White, and New Year's day was devoted to short viewing them, as well as their comics such as Duck Tales.

Gaston seems to be localised in English, under the new name "Gomer Goof". An interesting name, although one that will unfortunately not draw comparisons to Disney's Beauty and the Beast's character. Not sure if it's available in America, though.

Thank you for reading.

I much prefer Gaston Lagaffe, rolls off the tongue better and sounds more natural as a name. Maybe that's just me.

It's only just this year that Asterix is going to get localized for Americans, around May 2020. I'm not sure about Tin Tin, so I think if something huge like Asterix wasn't localized, not a good chance any other major Franco-Belgian comic got localized for America. Which is a huge shame. Our comic scene is mostly superheroes from what I remember from DC and Marvel, not a huge bunch of variety as far as I'm concerned.

Asterix movies are hilarious too.

I adore Mansion of the Gods, I really need to watch the Secret Potion. Oh and I also remember really liking the Vikings one.

Asterix and the Big Fight is one of the trippiest animated movies I had ever seen. The animators looked like they had WAY TOO MUCH FUN animating some of the distorted segments.
