Double standard on earning respect vs earning hatred.

Why is being a dick for no reason not as backlashy as being respectful for no reason?
If someone has to earn respect then they should also have to earn hatred too.

Is there some intellectually honest question that pries into how and why we perceive some actions as kindness and others as disrespect and why we respond to them with approval or disapproval, or am I missing something? Or why is it more difficult to earn respect than the lose respect?
 
honestly this sounds like one of those goofy life questions like why do we bake cookies when we cook bacon

like its fun to post but it doesnt really make a lot of sense to state it to begin with.
