Video Games / Favorite Rival Boss Fights in Gaming?
« on: January 17, 2019, 03:02:49 AM »
So one of my favorite types of premises for any kind of boss fight is whenever the protagonist goes up against their narrative foil and active thorn in their side, Aka the rival character. That special someone who has actively been competing against you for the same goal throughout the majority of your adventure and seems determined to be number one, but of course there are many other types of rivals like the friendly rival for example who seems to have a mutual respect for the hero.

Rivals come in many shapes and forms, some that mirror the strengths and abilities of the protagonist and some that occasionally tower over them. But what are your favorite Rival Boss Fights in Gaming?

--

Mine are:

~ Mario and Luigi vs. Popple and Rookie (Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga/DX) - In addition to being one of the few bosses with their own unique boss theme, they even have their own Bros. Moves that they'll use against you.

~ Sonic vs Blaze (Sonic Rush) - While I was pretty tempted to list Sonic vs. Shadow from Sonic Adventure 2/Generations, I think what cements this fight as one of my favorites is the second phase when Sonic and Blaze clash and you have to rapidly mash the Y button in order to ram Sonic/Blaze off the edge of the stage. Vela-Nova is pretty catchy too.

~ Star Fox vs. Star Wolf (Star Fox 64) - "CAN'T LET YOU DO THAT, STAR FOX!" Heh, always a classic. The dog fights with team Star Wolf are fun, especially the last one on planet Venom.

~ Meta Knight vs. Galacta Knight (Kirby Superstar Ultra) - This speaks for itself.

~ Brendan/May vs. Wally (Pokemon RSE/ORAS) - The Pokemon series is chalk full of great and memorable rival fights like Red vs. Blue for example, however my personal favorite is the Wally battle at the end of Victory Road... especially in ORAS.

Sorry if I'm asking a silly question, but how do you create/edit your own user page on the wiki?

Off-subject Discussion / New Years Resolutions for 2019
« on: December 16, 2018, 07:57:03 PM »
Probably a wee bit too early for this particular thread since it is still nine more days until Christmas, but I figure I might as well be the first one to create it. Unfortunately I was unable to keep most of my 2018 resolutions with the exception of one, so I am hoping that 2019 at least will be better year in that department.

My 2019 Resolutions:

~ Overcome laziness and pierce through all seventy-three pages of that accursed driver's manual so that I can obtain my license.
~ Stick to a more consistent drawing schedule and practice more often.
~ Lose some weight when summer rolls around.
~ Try to be more social IRL.
~ Become more proficient at cooking.

Forum Games / The Twelve Days of Mariomas
« on: December 10, 2018, 04:58:33 AM »
Just a random festive idea for a forum game, basically recite The Twelve Days of Christmas carol but with Mario-themed things in place of the lyrics.

Spoiler: Example (click to show/hide)

"On the first day of Mariomas, my Paisano gave to me... a Super Leaf from a Tanooki-tailed tree."

The Marioverse / Favorite Dr. Mario game?
« on: June 15, 2018, 08:29:01 PM »
Ever since Mario got his PhD way back in the day, he's been in a surprising amount of medical adventures fending off pesky viruses and saving countless lives one Megavitamen at a time while occasionally smashing some bros. presumably during his lunch hour. His countless efforts inspired Wario and eventually even Luigi to pursue a career in the medical field and... for some odd (yet equally as cool) reason Rudy the Clown too.

What is your favorite Dr. Mario game and why? So far I only have the original (both the NES and Game Boy versions), Dr. Mario Online RX, and I used to have Express too before my old 3DS was formatted. Out of those my favorite version is Online RX since I've played it the most and enjoyed that one mode where you can watch your Miis progressively bum rush the viruses into oblivion. I also really want to get Dr. Mario 64 just for the story mode aspect alone.

Video Games / Your "One More Try" Moments
« on: May 12, 2018, 12:09:08 PM »
The first time I heard the term "One More Try moment" was from the YouTuber and countdown community member CjsZero01 waaaaaaay back in 2012, basically it describes those particular moments in gaming where you essentially find yourself repeatedly failing at something over and over again but refusing to get discouraged and instead remaining absolutely determined to see it through to the very end even if it means aimlessly throwing yourself at the same exact obstacle/puzzle/enemy/boss/whatever for several hours on end until eventually you advance forward.

You know it in your veins that you are on the very cusp of victory and turning back now simply won't do as you are already in way too deep and quitting would be very anti-climatic and sully the mood, you slowly find yourself becoming more and more proficient at avoiding hazards and memorizing the way that enemies come at you until you inevitably blaze past it all to reach your goal as a wave of euphoria washes over you knowing that you succeeded and bested the challenge at hand. It's a mighty powerful feeling indeed.

But what are some of your "One More Try" moments?
(I'll post mine in a little bit.)

The Marioverse / Favorite version of the Mario Bros.' residence?
« on: May 09, 2018, 02:31:14 PM »
While not nearly as reoccurring as other well known residences in the Mushroom Kingdom like Peach's Castle and Bowser's Castle, the abode of the Mario Bros. does seem to at least share one thing in common with them in that it's often not very consistent in terms of it's design. We've seen the Bros. live in several different houses throughout the series each with their own unique little quirks and decoration, but what is your favorite version and why?

Personally I'm quite fond of Superstar Saga's version of Mario and Luigi's house just because it seems like the type of place that they would live at, a small humble little house on a peaceful vista with a nice view of Peach's Castle and presumably Toad Town in the distance. The interior does seem a little lacking in terms of rooms but it's pretty neat and tidy at least.

The extras added in Superstar Saga DX like Wii wheel and Mario-themed tennis racket were also a nice touch.

Video Games / Favorite 3DS' StreetPass Mii Plaza game?
« on: April 18, 2018, 08:12:40 PM »
I absolutely love using the 3DS' built-in pedometer, it has been encouraging me to get out and walk more ever since 2011 and feels like the natural next step of something like the say Pokewalker from Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, I take my 3DS out with me whenever I head out to walk my dog or if I know that I'll be heading into town and it's really satisfying to earn those daily 10 play coins since I can use them to play fun games like Find Mii and potentially score a new hat for my Mii or Puzzle Swap despite my frustration with the RNG and those dastardly pink panels.

But what are some of you guy's favorite StreetPass Mii Plaza games and experiences with taking your 3DS with you for a casual walk?

HelpDesk / Question regarding 3DS repairs.
« on: January 16, 2018, 01:46:42 AM »
I'm not sure if I should be posting this on here or on the handhelds board, but I have a water damaged Nintendo 3DS (the original 2011 model) that crashes whenever activating the camera, has a unresponsive L-Button and won't connect to the internet anymore. It's been in this condition since 2013 and I've been meaning to send it to Nintendo for repairs for awhile now.

I was wondering if anyone would know how much it costs to get it repaired/replaced.

Video Games / Games to play on a deserted island
« on: October 06, 2017, 03:54:23 PM »
So this is usually a fun topic on other forums: basically if you were to find yourself exiled to a deserted island far out into the deep blue beyond the reaches of civilization (that somehow has a TV and manages to consistently keep a seemingly infinite amount of power to run it--erm... don't overthink it) and was able to bring three games with you as well as their respective consoles/handhelds in order to keep yourself from going insane from boredom, what three games would you bring?

It's important to note that this particular island doesn't have a internet connection so you wouldn't be able to download new games or play with friends online, so it would probably be wise to bring games chalk full of content that never get dull or repetitive for you. Something like say Minecraft for example would be the perfect "stuck on a island" game since you would be able to exercise and hone your creativity, or something like Animal Crossing would be a good game to chill to.

Game with Friends / Nintendo Switch Friend Codes Thread
« on: April 07, 2017, 05:05:32 PM »
I'm not quite sure if someone has already started a thread on this or not, but it's basically the same idea as the 3DS Marketplace and Nintendo Network threads. Share your Switch friend codes here.
