i will say i miss the volcano theme from NSMBDS. I prefer it over Wii's so it's kind of disappointing that while that one went on to become a staple, DS's was left in obscurity.

I thought the Super Mario Sunshine enemies were pretty cool. Especially since they kind of look like Bowser Jr. created them.There are three games that have basically solidified the overall 3D design of everything in the Mario franchise.
Super Mario Sunshine for characters, Super Mario 64 DS for enemies, and New Super Mario Bros. for items and objects and even more enemies.
Whenever you see a Super Mushroom, Question block, Hamer Bros or a Blooper in 3D, you can thank New Super Mario Bros..

Abso-fucking-lutely. Do you have any idea how much I was asking for another New Super Mario Bros game after NSMBU came out? I'm still clinging to the faint hope that we might get one. The idea that they'll never come back? Damn, that just blows chunks.I've played every single game (except U and Luigi U, but I do have U Deluxe so I technically have these two, but just not their original versions as the Wii U is the only console between the DS and Switch 2 that I don't have). I kinda miss them. Wish we could've gotten another. Or at least a dedicated level editor for them (like the fangame Super Mario Bros. X2)
As I've said before, I think New Super Mario Bros 2 was a game that was good in concept, but inadequately and improperly executed. The coin-collecting theme was absolutely brilliant, but it wasn't stretched to its fullest potential. The levels are too easy, there are no special scoring systems or challenges, and the enemies are mostly reskinned and copied from other games. (Can you imagine what the Blockhoppers would have looked like in NSMB2?) I really don't understand why they didn't have Coin Rush unlocked by the in-game coins themselves. There's so much content that's recycled from the previous two games, often with inferior results. As everyone knows, 2D platformers need to have stellar gameplay in order to be looked at, and while the gameplay of NSMB2 was really good with level design and graphics, it was bogged down by a sense of staleness and lack of originality. So when NSMBU was announced just months later, it had to deal with the damage that NSMB2 inflicted to the series' PR. It was fighting an uphill battle from the start, and while it did well, it couldn't fully make up for the losses. NSMB2 is ultimately a decent and solid, but unremarkable game that needed to be great and hurt a series that had the ambition and potential to be legendary.NSMB2 kinda deserved it. Not saying it's bad but it's definitely the weakest one of the four (five if you include NSLU). It wasn't really as worthy of a direct sequel to NSMBDS as the name says. NSMBU didn't deserve it though. It was a worthy direct sequel to NSMBWii and probably one of, if not, my favorite of the NSMB games. The only reason people hate it was because it was the fourth game in a series that was largely the same and the fact it releases so quickly after NSMB2 (only 3 months were between the release of NSMB2 and NSMBU). If NSMBU followed the pattern (in case you get the "pattern" I'm talking about: I mean that, before NSMBU, every 3 years a new NSMB game came out. MP had a similar pattern before MP9, where every year (or in case an MP game came out pretty late into the year, it would take 2 years) a new MP game came out) and came out in 2015 instead (and if the advertising of the Wii U), it would've probably been praised almost as much as NSMB and NSMBWii
