Spoiler: *Light spoiler regarding to Illumination movie series, beware if you haven't watched it.

As we know, Galaxy theme for the 2026 movie was controversial because it skipped part of the early Super Mario history, notably the Super Mario Land series of Gameboy era. However, SML has a core issue that it never had a proper 3D visualization for spin-offs and adaptions to utilize, so we don't know if that is the reason why Nintendo decided to not push it for the second movie's theme.

Miyamoto, the series producer, his attitude for Daisy and SML has been not quite obvious. He slowly opens to Daisy's mainline participation in recent years, but seems to not want to push her in top-tier ways like how they usually do to Mario bros, Peach and Bowser. But given that Daisy was hinted in not only draft of the first Illumination movie, but also Odyssey's draft, it could be optimistic to think Miyamoto did want to mention Daisy, but also keeps her for a better plan so shed didn't manage to appear in those occasions.

If Miyamoto does want to push SML again, my theory would be that he'd actually plan to redo SML--- not a direct remake, but a spiritual reboot in the following brandnew 3D mainline game, which would set in Sarasaland as the hub world and Daisy will take a guidance role just like Pauline in Odyssey and Rosalina in Galaxy. It seems like a possibility because Odyssey and Bananza were best known for rebuilding Pauline's backstory for modern gamers, and Miyamoto might likely want to apply that strategy to Daisy and her kingdom as well.

And if that is true, the following third movie will be a direct adapation based on the latest mainline game, which would apply the modern design of Sarasaland to the third movie, and also apply Mario's newest power-ups and abilities.

That said, I don't necessarily like that being the reason why Miyamoto has been holding Daisy back for the whole time. It feels like she could still had been hinted more in early movies, but it all depends on the execution.
Of course, if Miyamoto doesn't really have such idea, he absolutely owes Daisy a better treat for both earlier games and movies.
