Bad take: the 1993 movie was a failed mission to build Daisy's legacy

Yeah consider that 1993 movie is an extremely controvesial being in Mario fandom, I don't think this is gonna be a widely accepted opinion, but still I'd like to say it.

We know Daisy has been in an awkward status--- yes she's now been to mainline as a playable hero and also fights in Smash, however her lack of stroy role has been her pain in ankle. Her origin from SML wasn't properly explained or extended, nor do we see more from her home Sarasaland in later mainline or RPGs (where her participation is absolutely non-existing)

But the 1993 movie was a very bold try as the whole movie story focuses on Daisy's origin and giving her the tritagonist role next to Mario bros, that is something we never see in official games (I mean, don't mean to downplay Peach, but I think Daisy should had been to Luigi's Mansion or some of the M&L RPGs stories). It's also the best gift to fans who ship the LuigiXDaisy duo.

Of course, we cannot ignore that the 1993 story entirely violates the original game canon, mainly because Dinohattan is the combination of Sarasaland and Yoshi's Island which are supposed to be two different origins. Obviously the 1993 story cannot be directly brought back to the games, but personally, I feel dissapointed with Nintendo who don't seem to be inspired by the movie and try to bring the ideas and concepts back to the games for Daisy's new stories.

We've confirmed that the 2026 animation movie would focus on Galaxy, so whether Daisy will have a glorious theatrical return is still not confirmed. Do you think Daisy got a good role in the 1993 story? Or you don't think it is a good record for her portfolio so better not mention it?

i honestly feel like the princess in that movie being named Daisy has nothing to do with an active intent to use that character, but rather the people making it knowing so little about the franchise that they thought Peach and Daisy were the same character and chose the latter name. And they made Luigi the love interest purely because there's a bigger age gap between the Bros. in the movie and Luigi was the youthful one that fit the traditional tropes of who gets a love interest better. No source on any of this i just get those vibes from the movie. It definitely has very little understanding of the source material.

I think the whole pairing Luigi up with Daisy thing was completely coincidental in the movie, and disconnected from the instances of it in the games.
(which even in the games I find it a tired pairing to fall back on, and literally the logic they used when trying to make it a thing in Mario Tennis feels pretty outdated to me. "We needed a girlfriend for Luigi so we revived Daisy" like what rule says Luigi needs a girlfriend specifically? What rule says every male character needs a girlfriend and every female character needs a boyfriend? I hate it when a media franchise establishes things purely because it feels the need to check those boxes for its main characters)

While you're also correct, my point focuses more on the executed result and whether the movie should be the basis for further influence regardless of the decisions made before the movie.

Since Daisy was a built main cast, I don't think Nintendo had proper reason to not expand her story and legact to Peach's extent, and that problem still exists today.

I think it built the legacy of Luigi and Daisy being together, I'll give it that. Doesn't help that the movie really wasn't good in any other avenue. But honestly, Luigi and Princess Daisy are made for each other. Official games in recent years have made that obvious.
