Aww, the role of the guy who gets killed is already occupied.
Anyway, I'd like to inquire about the curious title of book one: The Case of the Intoxicated Donut. The title seems strange to me because "intoxicated" pretty much means "drunk". Maybe you should change the title to "The Case of the Poisoned Donut" if that was what you meant, because...
...I don't think a drunk donut is what you were going for.
