"Sonic Colors" is what they're calling it. Apparently, this is what Sega/Sonic Team, themselves, have been working on, while in the meantime, DIMPS was working on Sonic 4. Here's the official trailer:

LONDON & SAN FRANCISCO (May 26th, 2010) SEGA ® Europe Ltd. & SEGA ® America, Inc. today announced Sonic ™ Colours, the new high-speed adventure of our famous hero Sonic the Hedgehog. Struggling with saving a colorful alien race fall into the clutches of Dr. Eggman, Sonic will face many obstacles along an inspired sci-fi themed amusement park. Sonic Colours will be available on Wii ™ and Nintendo DS ™ at the end of 2010.

A unique playground has been seen orbiting the planet of Sonic the Hedgehog. Some rumors speak of an alien race called wisps, with a rare colored energy, which is now imprisoned here, by the evil Dr. Eggman. Sonic, once arrived on the planet's entertainment, you can use immediately made aware of this rare power to help colored wisps in the escape! The Wii version of Sonic Colours combines both 2D and 3D gaming perspective, while the Nintendo DS version takes advantage of the characteristics of the double-screen console.

"The lively alien universe of Sonic Colours allows players to race at breakneck speed along amazing planets, each with its peculiarities and unique visual style." Comment on Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing SEGA. "In addition to classic Sonic gameplay, new power-wisps, they offer an innovative way to explore these new worlds and help Sonic to run faster than ever!"

The new Sonic hedgehog Colours see our dear speeding, jumping off himself among enemies like never before in a Sonic game. The aliens WISPs are able to free their "Colour Power" that can be absorbed by Sonic drilling to create new roads, for example, the ground (via the Yellow Drill), or go through the whole internship at supersonic speed (thanks to Cyan Laser). Combining the different available energies can further increase the speed of Sonic and his abilities beyond imagination. Lots of power ups and exclusive versions will be available for Wii and Nintendo DS for a brand new super-fast gameplay of Sonic for fans around the world.

Sonic Colours will be available on Wii ™ and Nintendo DS ™ at the end of 2010.

Looks like we have two Sonic games to look forward to at the end of the year. Here's hoping that both this and Sonic 4 will turn out to be good.

Re: A new Sonic game on the horrizon?

Neither of your URLs worked, so I had to google it.
Looks pretty sweet.

Re: A new Sonic game on the horrizon?

I just fixed the URLs. I'm pretty sure they're working now.

Re: A new Sonic game on the horizon?

I'm not interested in this. It gives me an old Sonic vibe, though...

Here are some Sonic Colors magazine scans.

People complained about Sonic 4 looking like "Sonic Rush HD" (despite having next to nothing in common with it), but the DS version of Sonic Colors looks more like a Rush sequel than that game does.

Re: A new Sonic game on the horizon?

There's going to be some new Sonic Riders game with a chicken guy who is not Scratch.

Seriously, the first one was alright, the second sucked, this one is going to suck probably.

Re: A new Sonic game on the horizon?

I thought they were both terrible.

Well, I actually had someone to play with, but it got boring really fast in one player. I played the second one at my friend's and it made me want to punch the screen because it was so lame. This one is just going to fail fast. Why doesn't SEGA understand that Sonic is meant to be a sidescroller, not a racing game. And then there's that one Sonic Kart game...

LOL. Because you obviously know more about what Sonic is "meant" to be than the people who designed him. >_>

Whatever they have to do to keep Rare on life support.

I think it suits him best, although Sonic Heroes was actually, now that I think of it, not that bad of a platformer. Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Adventure 2 were really great, though.

I don't know about anyone else, but I actually thought Sonic R was pretty good. I'd take that over Riders any day of the week.

I disagree, I think the opposite. Seemed like a cheap Mario Kart rip-off.

Re: A new Sonic game on the horizon?

I think you've gotten that game confused with Sonic Drift for the Game Gear. Sonic R was an on-foot racing game for the Sega Saturn and PC.

Yep, I did. My bad, it's been a while.

Yep, this is definitely Sonic Unleashed 2 (minus the Werehog gameplay, of course, which I personally didn't mind). Oddly, despite being on the Wii, it plays more like the 360 version of Sonic Unleashed, rather than the Wii version, which was almost entirely different. The DS version, on the other hand, plays more like Sonic Rush. I'll see if I could find some video footage of that one.

I'm starting to think Sonic Team just remade Sonic Heroes, made Sonic the only playable character, and re-used Sonic Unleashed's engine.

Re: A new Sonic game on the horizon?

I don't think it looks anything like Sonic Heroes, other than the fact that it contains Egg Pawns. On a side note, though, this is the first Sonic game to contain both Egg Pawns AND Badniks.

Re: A new Sonic game on the horizon?

No, I'm expecting great things from both this game and Sonic 4. Sonic Free Riders, on the other hand... I wouldn't count on it.
