Alternative Mario Bros name theory

There's been the on-going joke that because of the title "Mario Bros" that their names are Mario Mario and Luigi Mario...

But why not have it be Luigi Mario and something like Dominic Mario? This is just an example—insert any first name here. And Dominic, for whatever reason, doesn't like his first name and insists on going by his last name (which is something some people do). Has there been a theory like this?

Wouldn't that make a little more sense and make it a bit more interesting? It would also still make sense that even gamers all this time didn't know that was his first name, because he went to such great lengths to hide it lol

In my personal headcanon, their surname is Esposito rather than Mario or them not having any surname at all. So in my headcanon, they'd be the Esposito Bros rather than the Mario Bros, lol.

Lol yeah that or a longer last name people in their world mispronounce, so people out of lack of effort default to using Mario's name to refer to the pair.

Mario and Luigi Saltalamacchia, which means "jump the thicket", which is a great tie-in to them jumping through courses and "Jumpman".

Saltalamacchia? You mean like Jarrod Saltalamacchia, the catcher for the Boston Red Sox?

I remember he was involved in the obstruction play at the end of Game 3 of the 2013 World Series that gave the Cardinals the win.
