We went through the basic duties and operation of the Awards Committee and introduced this year's Awards Committee members.
We conducted a successful test poll to confirm Uncle Awards is working.
ESTABLISHING ROLES
We discussed opportunities for members of the Awards Committee to voluntarily take on additional roles, such as Meeting Summarizer.
Not too important to decide on right now; members can take on roles throughout the year
Pitohui and Camwoodstock took notes for this session; BMFan08 expressed potential interest in summarizing this year to be assessed later
AWARDS NUMBERS
Broad consensus that enough energy exists to sustain ~45 awards, plus/minus 1-2.
Maintain split of roughly 20 Mario, 10 Fail, 15 Community.
50 should be taken as a hard limit for sanity's sake, only to be considered viable in the event that there is an undeniable uptick in energy as the year goes along.
Keeping the awards number divisible by 5 is desirable, but not necessary if ideas shake out such that we have a few more or a few less.
We currently have a 5-presentation limit per person as a hard maximum with 3 main sign-ups before backups. Nobody had any problems so this is probably staying true
MISCELLANEOUS POINTERS
It's the 20th awards ceremony (marking 21 years of the wiki). We are looking for ways to celebrate the 20th edition of the awards themselves. Various ideas were pitched:
Anniversary art contributed by various users throughout the year
Fun With Despair will host Scribble Labs 3
GBA and Perch are running AKG2x2
Hint Toad is running an Odyssey scavenger hunt
A Guess the Results return is desired
An Awards trivia gameshow building from and refining Boo1268's concept
Some sort of time lapse data display showing past results changing
Display the polls that have only appeared once (AC mistakes/silly misses), let people vote on them unchanged, then a fanfare-less presentation of the results
Smasher mentioned hosting Gartic nights
A special 'Shroom column looking back at some of the strangest or most interesting one-off polls.
We discussed replacing the Roman numerals currently in use with Hindu-Arabic numerals.
Voted to keep the Roman numerals for this year as a last hurrah
Noted that XX is easy to read and interpet
Will revisit next year, with current leaning being replacement for 2027
We discussed the visual identity of the awards.
Rose mentioned the idea of putting AC Hubbub in a mad scientist outfit with a little lab jacket for vote analysis posts.
From this, Camwoodstock pitched a general science them, citing the many mad scientists and branches of science in Mario.
Reception for a general, overarching theme for Mario Awards XX was positive; vote on adopting the science theme was successful
Emphasize that presentations aren't required to follow it
Presenters are welcome to draw inspiration from it, however
The theme could be used in intros, outros, intermissions, Bonus Stars, supplemental art, and other "meta" aspects, kind of like a framing device.
We discussed the Bonus Stars.
Lakituthequick explained the Bonus Stars to the Awards Committee.
We established that a goal for this year is spreading the work of the Bonus Stars across multiple members of the committee.
We may adopt a template/scaffolding that AC members can fill, while still allowing them to stray outside of the template.
OPEN FLOOR
Everyone gets really distracted with mold jokes :immold: !
Pitohui brought up that TPG has pitched preliminary polls (and this year specifically, a bracket) to determine nominees, which we could use to guide discussions for individual polls. Notes the idea has merit, but brings up logistical concerns and redundancy concerns.
jan Misali's chart that the committee has its eyes on for analyzing M1. was brought up as a similar form of preliminary data collection.
Rose also mentioned a potential redundancy, especially if the polls are conducted the exact same way as the awards polls themselves. Suggestions were made to focus on alternative formats for preliminary data gathering.
jan Misali offered to assist with these non-standard polls to gauge potential candidates and FWD mentioned workshopping ideas with the Poll Committee.
It was mentioned that a bracket may be a fun side projects from which data could incidentally be gathered.
Overall consensus was to reserve formal preliminary data gathering for edge cases or items the AC is unsure on.
Post-meeting, TPG clarified that he was referring to the existing preliminary forum polls the AC uses for nominee selection. The specific suggestion is passing select polls on to the PC to gather more data from main page visitors.
The All-Time Favorite Character Bracket has been positively-recieved, and TPG and the Directorship will discuss the logistics further. Its results announcement will be given a slot in this year's ceremonies.
START WITH MARIO AWARDS
Due to a lack of time, we kept this to introducing the process of going through awards and evaluating M1 and M2.
Lakituthequick explained the binning process and the basics of selecting nominees.
Key:
Red = Remove
Green = Keep
Blue = So-so (will revisit the award in the future, may get removed/reworked)
M1. Favorite Major Character – Keep! – We will discuss nominees next week. M2. Favorite Supporting Character – Keep! – We will discuss nominees next week.
Camwoodstock suggested sub-themes for the different ceremonies based on different fields of science
Idea will be discussed and reviewed more thoroughly on the forum
The AC noted that TPG had posted a pitch for his All-Time Favorite Character bracket and voted to support it.
Fun With Despair asked that any preliminary poll ideas that arise during the meeting be gathered and sent to him afterwards.
Awards Ceremonies are set to take place on August 14th. Mark your calendars.
CONTINUE WITH THE MARIO AWARDS
After voting to go through nominees directly after binning a given award, we began by discussing nominees for the two awards we voted to keep last week.
M1. Favorite Major Character
Add: Pauline; Kamek
Pauline on the strength of her Bananza role, plus many recent appearances
Kamek on the strength of his TSMGM role, plus consistent appearances across many forms of media
M2. Favorite Supporting Character
Updated the definition to explicitly exclude characters primarily from RPGs
Add: King K. Rool; Void Kong; Cranky Kong
King K. Rool and Void Kong on strength of their Bananza roles
Added Cranky Kong based on write-ins and considering his Bananza appearances
Remove: Kamek; Pauline; Prince Florian
Kamek and Pauline moved to M1
Prince Florian was worst-performing nominee remaining
Baby Waluigi and The Old Psychic Lady with the Evil Eye Who Reads Fortunes and Knows Everything Before It Happens were considered as nominees, but Cranky Kong was selected over them in a vote.
Key:
Red = Remove
Green = Keep
Blue = So-so (will revisit the award in the future, may get removed/reworked)
M3. Favorite RPG Character - Keep!
Add: Lady Bow; Koops
High-performing write-ins, with Lady Bow beating a nominee
Remove:Technikki, Connie
Poorest-performing nominees, with Technikki losing to a write-in
M4. Favorite Power-Up - Keep!
Add: Super Flower Pot; Elephant Bananza; Kong Bananza
Hammer Suit garnered only two votes more than next-lowest nominee (Bubble Flower) and is much older
M5. Favorite Enemy - Remove!
Results are considered to be stale, with no expectations that will change.
M6. Favorite Music Track - Keep!
A vote on splitting off a "Favorite Lyrical Song" award failed.
Add: Steam Gardens (SMO); Breaking Through (Heart of Gold) (DKB); Kong Bananza (DKB)
Steam Gardens beat a nominee as a write-in
The two Bananza tracks are new to this cycle
Remove:Cheep Cheep Falls (MKWorld); Boss Theme (M&L:B); Peaches (TSMBM)
Worst-performing nominees, with Cheep Cheep Falls having been beaten by a write-in
Ludwig Showdown from Meetup in Bellabell Park was considered, but little interest was shown
M7. Favorite Soundtrack - Keep!
We will discuss nominees next week.
Looking forward at M12. Favorite Non-Bowser Boss Battle, it was suggested that Fun With Despair work with the Poll Committee to poll site visitors on the Koopaling battles in Meetup in Bellabell Park.
Blue = So-so (will revisit the award in the future, may get removed/reworked)
M7. Favorite Soundtrack - Keep!
Add: Donkey Kong Bananza; The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Two new releases in this cycle with well-received scores
Remove: The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Super Mario Wonder
Lowest-placing nominees
M8. Favorite Game Mechanic - Keep!
Add: Destructible Terrain (DKB); Bananzas (DKB)
Two new major and highly-marketed mechanics in a game from this cycle
Remove: Battle Plugs (M&L:B); Routes (MKWorld)
Battle Plugs was the worst-performing nominee. The Routes placed two votes higher than Badges, it is considered possible they get a boost from Meetup in Bellabell Park and is noted they are broadly well-received. Routes, on the other hand, have been markedly controversial.
M9. Favorite Super Mario Bros. Wonder Level - Remove!
Dominated by Piranha Plants on Parade and no longer sustained by new content or likely changes.
M10. Favorite 2D Platformer - So-So!
Not particularly enthused to keep it due to low expectation of a shift in results. Will revisit and consider a potential merger with 3D Platformer.
M11. Favorite Bowser Battle - Keep!
Leave as-is due to lack of notable new Bowser fights; revisit if Bowser appears in Yoshi and the Mysterious Book
M12 Favorite Non-Bowser Battle - Keep!
Add: Ruined Dragon (SMO); Robobrood (SMO)
Highest-placing write-ins
Remove: Brobot (SPM); Zokket (M&L:B)
Worst-performing nominees
Swapping Raphael the Raven (SMW2:YI) for Reclusa (M&L:B) was also considered, but rejected due to a larger difference in vote counts.
Considered the Koopaling fights from Meetup in Bellabell Park, but decided to wait for a preliminary poll from the PC to determine which fight is most popular
Post-meeting, the final boss of Donkey Kong Bananza was brought up. We will revisit the idea at the beginning of the next meeting.
M13. Favorite Mario Kart World Newcomer - Remove!
Dominated by Cow and has no new content.
M14. Favorite Mario Kart Item - Keep!
Add: Triple Mushroom
Best-performing write-in
Remove: Coin Shell
Automatic removal for scoring lower than two write-ins and tying with five others
M15. Favorite Mario Kart Course - Keep!
Add: Big Blue; Wild Woods
Best-performing write-ins, with the former even beating a nominee
Remove: Whistlestop Summit; The Great ? Block Ruins
Former automatically removed for performing worse than a write-in; the latter was the worst-performing remaining nominee
We are going to work with the PC to have a preliminary poll on Mario Kart World's new tracks, and will revisit this when we have results.
M16. Favorite Mario Party Minigame - Keep!
Add: Leaf Leap
Highest-placing write-ins
Adding Sneak 'n' Snore was considered, but it did not receive much support or opposition, with a majority abstaining.
Removing Shake It Up was considered, but it was kept on account of a jump in votes and notoriety
We will take the eight tied write-ins and place them in a forum poll alongside fresh nominations, then revisit this award.
M17. Favorite Non-game Media - Keep!
Add: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie; Rosalina's Storybook; I am a teacher: Super Mario Sweater; Super Mario Compact Disco; Super Mario (Kodansha manga)
The first two are new qualifying releases this cycle; the latter three are the best-performing write-ins
M18. Favorite Game (N64/GBC and older) - Remove!
Award removed for stale results and in favor of a potential All-Time Favorite Game award.
M19. Favorite Game (GCN/GBA through Wii/DS) - Remove!
Award removed for stale results and in favor of a potential All-Time Favorite Game award.
M20. Favorite Game (Wii U/3DS and newer) - So-So!
Potentially reworking into a Switch and Switch 2-only variant for this year.
BEGIN THE FAIL AWARDS
F1. Most Unremarkable Game - Keep!
Add: Mario & Luigi: Brothership
Second-strongest write-in and had a mediocre performance across awards in 2025. It tied with Yoshi's New Island, but YNI's reception was broadly negative.
Hello, Mario! and Hello, Yoshi! were considered, but not added
Paper Mario: Sticker Star, as the best performing write-in, was considered, but rejected out of concerns it would greatly overperform due to vocal antipathy towards the game. That is considered inconsistent with the award's intent.
Well-received final boss marking the return of a popular character
Remove: Raphael the Raven
Lowest-placing nominee remaining from last year
LOOK AT FORUM THREADS
M16. Favorite Mario Party Minigame
The forum thread will continue to be open for the next week. Nomination collection will end at the end of Tuesday and the thread will transition into a poll to whittle down nominees to fill our open slots.
CONTINUE WITH THE FAIL AWARDS
Key:
Red = Remove
Green = Keep
Blue = So-so (will revisit the award in the future, may get removed/reworked)
F2. Worst Obstacle - Keep!
Muck (DKB) was considered, but did not garner support.
Grinders were considered for removal, but in the aftermath of Muck's rejection, it was decided not to remove them without a clear replacement.
F3. Worst Level Concept - So-so!
Results are stale and the award is considered conceptually less interesting than other possibilities.
F4. Worst Game Mechanic - Keep!
Add: Rambi riding (DKB)
Controls poorly
Considered whistling/singing (DKB), but it did not garner enough support to add.
Remove: Gacha
Despite being the first-placer for years running, gacha elements being removed from Mario Kart Tour and Dr. Mario World shutting down mean no Mario games currently feature gacha mechanics.
F5. Worst Boss Battle - Keep!
Rework: Boom Boom (Super Mario series)
Split into "Boom Boom (SMB3)" and "Boom Boom (SM3DL/SM3DW)"
Other Boom Boom appearances are left to write-ins.
Split because of his recent dominance on this award and because of differences in his 2D and 3D boss fights.
The former two are the highest-performing write-ins from 2026.
Moo Moo Meadows added as it is a visual downgrade from and less interesting compared to MK8. While it did not receive write-in votes, MKWorld releasing so close to the polls last year may have prevented voters from getting familiar with its courses.
Dropping the system identifiers at the start of World courses was considered, as the game itself does not use them. They were kept to assist voters with distinguishing the courses being remade.
F7. Worst Title - Red = Remove
Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV thoroughly dominated this award last year. While more NS2E have released and may provide competition, the value of an award which is likely to be various NS2E titles battling each other is questionable.
Bonus Star possibility acknowledged.
F8. Worst Game Aesthetic - Keep!
Add: Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition; Super Mario Bros. Wonder; Mario Kart Wii; Super Mario Land
Tweened animations for the first; highest write-ins (excluding Mario is Missing!, as it may run into the same issues as Hotel Mario - see below) for the other three
Remove: Hotel Mario
While winning on this award last year and recognized as a game with an aesthetic many may call questionable, we also acknowledged that Hotel Mario is prominently featured in meme culture and may attract votes simply based on that status when featured as a nominee.
It will remain a valid write-in, but we will see how the award performs without it as a nominee.
F9. Worst Remake - Keep!
Add: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (Nintendo Switch)
Highest-performing write-in
Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo Switch) was considered, but not added, as the only noted complaints were about the price.
F10. Most Shameless Business Decision - So-so!
Blue binned because "Takedowns of fan content" has been firmly entrenched in first place. While a very well-liked award, it warrants a structural reevaluation to address the stale winner.
Add: At The Chomp Wash; Coney Island; Crazy Cutters; Stamp Out!

C1. Favorite Active 'Shroom Writer - Keep!
Due to a large number of eligible writers, we will take this to a forum thread to collect, then whittle down, nominations.
C2. Favorite 'Shroom Section Design - Keep!
After some discussion on what to do with sections that may not have kept pace with a general increase in quality (e.g., sections using only a basic Shroomtable with no additional design elements), it was agreed that there would be no split into any new awards, but that we will more judiciously trim down nominees whose designs aren't delivering on the intentions of the section.
Remove: Brothership Boss Battle Guide (Sparks); Four Steps for a 3D World (Hooded Pitohui); An Octet Gazette (Hooded Pitohui); Connections (Roserade); Hint Art (ViableBunnyBud); The 'Shroom Report (Waluigi Time); To-Do Tracker (Camwoodstock)
Hint Art is now inactive
The other removals were a part of this year's additional trimming, as it was deemed they do not have specialized design elements that serve their intentions.
C3. Favorite Written 'Shroom Section of the Past Year - Keep!
Due to a large number of eligible sections, we will take this to a forum thread to collect, then whittle down, nominations.

Add: TV Tomorrow (Quizmelon); Hint Art (ViableBunnyBudd); File City Files (Shoey); Shine Get (Waluigi Time)
Newly-eligible this year
Remove: Picross (Goombuigi); Musical Quiz (WildWario); Interview (Superchao); SIMulation (Ray Trace); A Report on the Effectiveness of Power-Ups (Shoey)
Picross is an auto-removal, as it has returned.
The others were the lowest-placing nominees from 2025.
C6. Favorite 'Shroom Special Issue - Keep!
This award automatically advances a set timeframe, and this year ranges from 2022-2026, inclusive.
Due to a large number of eligible artists, we will take this to a forum thread to collect, then whittle down, nominations.
C8. Favorite Scribble Round - So-so!
Only one new Scribble event has occurred in this cycle. This award is being blue binned to assess space, but may be retained with the challenge rounds from Scribble Circuit '26 counted as their own nominees.
C9. Favorite 2025 Awards Presentation - Keep!
Due to this award necessarily starting from a clean slate each year, we will take this to a forum thread to collect, then whittle down, nominations.
C10. Favorite BJAODN Entry - Keep!
This award will be sent to a thread to decide on additions. The wiki staff will be contacted to give their suggestions, as well, as this is an award with high engagement from wiki editors.
Many awards covered tonight have an entirely fresh slate of nominees, and some nominees have long names. For cleaner formatting, you may want to check the Full List.
OLD BUSINESS
M15. Favorite Mario Kart Course
We received results from the Poll Committee, showing Boo Cinema and DK Spaceport as the 2nd and 3rd most popular Mario Kart World courses among respondents. Rainbow Road (MKWorld), which was the most popular course, is already a nominee.
Add: Boo Cinema; DK Spaceport
Remove: Ninja Hideaway; Dino Dino Jungle
Lowest-placing remaining nominees

BINS AND INCUBATORS
With all awards binned, we turned our attention to the new awards incubator. Lakituthequick posted a list of all ideas pitched in this year's threads to date.
We discussed a retool of F10 into a "Most Embarrassing" award, with exact name, scope, definition, and nominees tbd.
Pitched as "stuff Nintendo has done that's stupid on the whole".
Potentially including Wiggler Wednesday, Virtual Boy, other commercial flops, U R MR GAY, etc.
Would not include decisions that are merely disliked but which were successful (e.g. releasing Sticker Star).
We voted to pursue the idea, and will further define it in a forum thread.
We discussed All-time Favorite Game as this year's replacement for the previous Favorite Game (N64/GBC and older) and Favorite Game (GCN/GBA through Wii/DS).
This would span every system and platform which Mario games have released on, and is meant as an anniversary celebration for this year.
Potentially accompanied by an award only for Switch and Switch 2 exclusive games.
We voted to pursue the idea, and selected an initial nominee list from the top six from each of last year's Favorite Game awards.
Due to Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door appearing twice (on account of its remake), there was one free slot left.
Bananza was added in that free space, as it is a major release which has not appeared on these awards before.
Mn1. Favorite Game of All Time
Definition: The best game in the greater Mario franchise.
Add: Super Mario 64; Super Mario World; Paper Mario; Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars; Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island; Super Mario Bros. 3; Super Mario Galaxy; Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door; Mario Kart Wii; Super Mario Galaxy 2; Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story; Super Paper Mario; Super Mario Odyssey; Mario Kart 8 Deluxe; Super Mario Bros. Wonder; Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury; Mario Kart World; Donkey Kong Bananza
We will reassess bin counts before next week's meeting, and devote the bulk of next week's meeting to crafting and deciding on replacement awards.
Add: AC Hubbub and Pillar Panache; Commander Nebula; Cosmo Neko; Pyrokles and Kroop; Specture Striker; Agent F; Buggy D. Veloper; Glea; Headrest and Inquis; Hellen Gravely; Jacquelyn; Krilliam; Lily; Linq; Rock Paper Wizard; Squid and Co.; The Fish; The King of Sunrise Silver; The Sticky Warrior; Wallace Ulysses
We will consult with Yap to finalize the formatting of Squid and Co.
At the beginning of this discussion, the binned awards sat as follows:
Mario - 14 green, 1 blue, 5 empty slots
Fail - 8 green, 1 blue, 1 empty slot
Community - 14 green, 1 blue
A Favorite Hub award was considered, but rejected due to a short list of relevant nominees primarily from older titles.
A Favorite Mario Kart World Arrangement award was considered, but rejected due to concerns over being too niche and due to a lack of an in-game song selection making it difficult to engage with the soundtrack.
A Favorite Costume award encompassing Super Mario Odyssey, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Princess Peach: Showtime! was considered, but was set aside due to a lack of enthusiasm.
A Favorite Story Mode award, focused on singleplayer campaigns in multiplayer-focused titles like the sports games and Mario Party games, was considered, but was set aside for being too niche.
A Favorite Mario Series amiibo award was considered, but rejected because amiibo have considerably declined in prominence.
A Favorite Bananza Layer award was accepted due to Bananza being a recent, high-profile release.
A Favorite Pauline Musical Number award was considered, but rejected as it is expected "Jump Up, Super Star" would dominate.
A Favorite Cameo/Favorite Guest Appearance award, focusing on cameos by non-Mario characters like Samus in SMRPG and the Pikmin in SMBW, was considered, but was set aside due to a lack of enthusiasm and concerns of imbalance among nominees.
A Favorite NPC Species award was rejected by the member who suggested it and the AC as a whole out of concern it would be too difficult to set and convey its scope.
A Favorite Extra Mode award was accepted, as the committee believes there is potential in its idea, but it was agreed that it will need a dedicated effort to narrow its scope, definition, and name.
We swapped the previously blue binned Favorite 2D Platformer for Mn#. Favorite Donkey Kong Game (number tbd), in recognition of Bananza's release.
We will take the awards which have been accepted and place them into forum threads for intensive development before the next meeting.
