Which controller's best for VC Mariokart 64?

I know I'm late to the party, but I want to get Mariokart 64 on VC for the Wii. This will be my first VC download (and I know there's problems, but nostalgia for this game will overcome everything for me). So, which controller should I get to play it? Standard Classic Controller, Game Pad or Gamecube Controller? My criteria for "best of the bunch" would be whichever replicates the layout and feel of the controls of the 64 controller best. Hope someone has some thoughts on this...

Exactly. The Gamecube controller is the best for playing ANY kind of Nintendo 64 game on the Virtual Console, regardless of whether or not it's Mario Kart 64.

But for some reason, I prefer the Classic Controller for Paper Mario.
