Writing descriptions for every Spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (project)

Troy McClure

You may remember me from forum posts such as…

Remember when you would view the trophies in Smash Bros., and read a small tidbit of information on what that particular character/item/thing from a game did? When Super Smash Bros. Ultimate released in 2018 with the Spirits replacing trophies, they notably lacked that small charming description that was once included.

I have taken the personal project of writing descriptions for each and every Spirit included in Ultimate (yes, even the Fish from Balloon Fight will get a description).

So, how's this going to work? I am going in order from Mario (number 1) to Wonder Flower and Talking Flower (number 1,528), posting in batches of ten each. This may be a big undertaking. but I am prepared to write them all as apart of a bigger writing practice. Feedback and comments are appreciated here! I would love to know what you think about these little blurbs of information.

Super Mario Spirits (#1 to #133)

#1 Mario

One of the most recognizable characters in video game history, Mario has been on many adventures and collected tons of coins and power-ups. In Smash Bros., Mario is a versatile fighter, well-rounded for any match. While his special moves haven't changed since the days of Brawl, Mario is joined by Cappy, his latest partner that traveled the world while on his head.

#2 Builder Mario

In Super Mario Maker, players can create their own Mario courses and share them with the world to play. Mario fittingly dons a construction outfit in promotional material, hard hat and all. Whether it be a standard course or a course that's a bit outside the box, you can always ensure that the creativity is abound when Mario is around!

#3 Mario (Wedding)

Mario is certainly looking dapper in this white tuxedo outfit crafted by Cappy. He's not the one leading Peach down the aisle, but Bowser is sure going to have quite an objection to his wedding to her on the Moon. This fancy suit is Mario's eighth color in Ultimate, alongside his Builder get-up as the seventh color.

#4 Luigi

Mario's taller, younger brother, he's a bit timid when it comes to subjects like ghosts. Luigi nonetheless helps rescue Princess Peach and save the Mushroom Kingdom alongside Mario. Occasionally, he'll wield the Poltergust and investigate a mansion with help from Professor E. Gadd, but this leads to getting spooked by g-g-ghosts… and has drawn the ire of King Boo.

#5 Peach

The princess of the Mushroom Kingdom who's more than likely getting captured by Bowser at any given time. Despite the status as damsel-in-distress, Peach has proved that she can hold her own when her kingdom is threatened. She's also quite proficient at kart racing and other sports, such as tennis or golf.

#6 Daisy

"HI, I'm Daisy!" This peppy princess from the neighboring kingdom of Sarasaland will make sure you remember her name is Daisy. Participating in several competitive sports, Daisy is no slouch when it comes to hitting a home run or getting a goal in Mario Strikers. While Peach may have her eye on Mario, Daisy's got a bit of a crush on Luigi.

#7 Bowser

The King of the Koopas and commander of the Koopa Troop. Causing mischief and chaos in the Mushroom Kingdom is just in his nature. Oftentimes, he's got his heart set on Peach, but his plans are foiled and the princess is rescued by that goody two-shoes Mario. He takes a more realistic look in Smash Bros. to go along with his powerful moves and snarling demeanor.

#8 Dr. Mario

While we can't quite figure out how this plumber became a doctor, what we do know is that Dr. Mario lobs Megavitamins at viruses and at opponents, Sharing some of regular Mario's moveset, Dr. Mario is more powerful than the Mario we're used to. Who needs a defibrillator when you have your side Smash Attack?

#9 Rosalina

Rosalina travels the cosmos and acts as a caretaker of the Lumas. Mario first met her when Bowser took Peach (and her entire castle as well) towards the center of the universe to establish his new galactic empire. Kind and soft-spoken, Rosalina also has a bit of a fun side to her, joining Mario and friends in Mario Kart and recently in Mario Party.

#10 Bowser Jr.

Like father, like son, Bowser Jr. is the heir to the Koopa Kingdom's throne and the only child of Bowser. His Junior Clown Car has all sorts of gizmos and gadgets to turn the match in his favor, including Mechakoopas, sawblades, boxing gloves, and… a fork? In any case, he does look cute for such a tiny tyrant.

#11 Iggy

Iggy is the crazed genius of the Koopalings and the tallest if you count his hair stalk. Laughing madly as he battles, firing magic from his wand, and running back and forth between the floor and the ceiling make this Koopaling a mystery in his behaviors. A Chain Chomp is a common occurrence in his fights, where he has it attached to a chariot in the New Super Mario Bros. series.

#12 Wendy

Being the only female Koopaling, you'd expect Wendy to be concerned with her makeup and jewelry rather than taking on Mario, but she's just like her siblings. Wendy fires magic rings from her wand that bounce off of walls in contrast to the other Koopalings' attacks, In New Super Mario Bros. U, she's the boss of Frosted Glacier and shows off her deadly figure skating skills during battle.

#13 Lemmy

The smallest of the Koopalings, Lemmy is often mistaken to be the youngest of the group, but that distinction goes to Larry. It's easy to see why that misconception gained traction, what with Lemmy's circus ball that he enjoys rolling around on, and summoning smaller versions of them to bounce Mario around during a battle. Underestimating this little guy is one mistake you don't want to make.

#14 Roy (Super Mario Bros.)

They say sunglasses make you look cooler, of which Roy is the perfect example. Preferring strength over smarts, Roy stomps around creating shockwaves that stop Mario in his tracks. Roy also carries a giant, twin-sided Bill Blaster as the boss of Rock-Candy Mines. Perhaps all that strength carries over into firepower!

#15 Larry

If the Koopalings appear as bosses in an adventure, there's a pretty high chance that Larry will be the easiest to defeat. Larry might not have the strength of Morton or Roy, nor does he have the cunning of Ludwig or craziness of Iggy, but he provides a challenge through being traditional; just firing a blast or two from his wand and jumping around.

#16 Ludwig

The self-proclaimed leader of the Koopalings and the last one to be defeated most of the time. Ludwig is cunning and conceited, making showy moves in battle and planning his next course of action carefully. When Ludwig isn't battling Mario, he composes "Koopa Symphonies" and has a fondness for classical music. Whether these compositions sound good is up to a matter of debate.

#17 Morton

Whereas Roy is more brawn than brains, Morton is all brawn and no brains. The very definition of "dumb muscle", Morton isn't very smart and speaks like a caveman. However, this doesn't mean he's above helping to protect his fellow Koopalings when the need arises. Say what you will about Morton, but there may be a somewhat kind heart underneath that tough and gruff exterior.

#18 Super Mushroom

The first power-up you encounter in Super Mario Bros. is the Super Mushroom, which grants you the Super form. Breaking Brick Blocks and allowing you to bump into a Goomba without losing a life is just the start of what this Mushroom can do. Just don't confuse it for the Poison Mushroom, though.

#19 Fire Flower

In the Mario series, grabbing this power-up lets you throw fireballs, turning enemies you'd normally have to stomp into cannon fodder. While it can't produce fireballs in Smash Bros., it instead streams a burst of fire when the attack button is held. For an up close and personal item, the Fire Flower fits the bill.

#20 Super Star

One touch of this shiny power-up makes you invincible for a short while, with even the strongest of enemies falling without any effort. Multiple colors flash all over, creating a rainbow effect as you run full speed ahead! If you want, you can hum the theme to this power-up as you go. You can even share the invincibility with other players in Super Mario 3D World, but make sure it doesn't run out when you get into a sticky situation.

#21 Metal Mario

In Super Mario 64, Mario could obtain the Metal Cap, which coated him in metal, making him heavier and more resistant to threats. However, this form may have grown a mind of its own, as it appears as a racer in the Mario Kart series and various sports titles. It also showed up in Smash Bros. as an opponent. If there can be two Marios in the same place at the same time, which Mario came first…?

#22 Boo Mario

Touching the Boo Mushroom turns Mario into a Boo, allowing him to float through walls, turn invisible, and even speak a language known as Booish. He uses it to rescue his little brother, Luigi, from the horrifying halls of the Ghostly Galaxy. There is one tiny problem that arises when it comes to this transformation: Boos become smitten with Mario!

#23 Rock Mario

Out of all the power-ups Mario has obtained over the years, the Rock Mushroom is pretty weird for a concept. It encases him in a boulder and lets him roll around smashing crystals and striking down Pinheads with relative ease. In Super Mario Galaxy, Bowser used a form like this during the final battle, it's in the realm of possibility that Mario took some notes for future reference.

#24 Gold Mario

Coins are a well known staple of the Mario series. Gold Mario is the epitome of that fact, being covered in, well, gold! This form allows Mario to throw explosive balls of fiery gold in New Super Mario Bros. 2, where the main focus is collecting a whole lot of coins. It also appears as a racer in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as a reward for beating all of the cups on 200cc. "Bang for your buck" is an appropriate phrase here.

#25 Fox Luigi

We all know Luigi to be the one to turn tail, but what if he grew a tail himself? The Super Leaf changes Mario into his Raccoon form, but Luigi gets a special Fox version of it. He can still do all the same moves that the Super Leaf grants, swiping down enemies with his tail and hovering in the air for a short period, just with a fox's tail instead of a raccoon's.

#26 Flying Squirrel Toad

In the heart of Acorn Plains is the enormous Acorn Tree that provides Super Acorns. Obtaining one grants the Flying Squirrel form, which allows Mario and his friends to glide through the air and Spin Jump higher than normal. Using these two attributes of the Flying Squirrel form can help collect even the toughest Star Coins and access hidden areas you couldn't fathom reaching without it.

#27 Baby Peach

One of the seven Star Children, Peach tags along with the Yoshies to rescue Luigi from Bowser in Yoshi's Island DS. She uses her parasol to float along wind gusts and help a Yoshi extend their flutter jumps. In Mario Kart, the young princess is a lightweight and reaches her top speed quicker. Even as a baby, Peach can prove herself on par with her adult counterpart.

#28 Cat Princess Peach

The Super Bell is really the cat's meow. Climbing up walls, pouncing down in the air, running quicker, this power-up isn't kitten around. Fur-get the Tanooki Suit and Fire Flower, sharp claws and furry paws are where it's at. We wouldn't lion to you and say that Peach isn't feline fine while wearing the Cat Suit!

#29 Peach (Wedding)

Peach and Bowser go together like nails and tomatoes. He still wants to marry her and claim the Mushroom Kingdom as his own, though. For a wedding dress, Peach has the Lake Kingdom's Lochlady Dress, with flowers taken from the Wooded Kingdom and the scrumptious Stupendous Stew from the Luncheon Kingdom as the wedding dinner; Bowser has spared no expense in making sure that his wedding is perfect even if Mario's hot on his tail.

#30 Bowser (Wedding)

For Bowser, power is all he desires. How he gets it varies from time to time, with his wedding to Princess Peach being his latest attempt. A giant hat rests atop Bowser's head, which packs a few hidden surprises. When Mario takes him on in the Cloud Kingdom, Bowser pulls a few punches, quite literally, with his hat. Unfortunately, the Koopa king makes the mistake of leaving himself open if Mario happens to turn the tables on him…

#31 Toad

Loyal to the Mushroom Kingdom and the princess, these mushroom-wearing denizens are joyful and hardworking. Toads can be found all over the Mario world, operating Toad Houses for power-ups, extra lives, or hosting fun minigames. Two particular Toads join Mario and Luigi as playable characters in the New Super Mario Bros. series. By the way, that mushroom cap is a part of their heads, not an actual cap!

#32 Captain Toad

When there's treasure to be tracked, this guy can't be too far behind. From his humble beginnings exploring various galaxies, Captain Toad has taken to the task of collecting Stars and Super Gems all the while not being able to jump due to his heavy backpack. Luckily, there's a mysterious force at work helping him out by maneuvering platforms and manipulating the environment, but this might be just a theory…

#33 Toadette

Every adventurer needs a partner, and Toadette is a toad-ally good one. She assists Captain Toad in collecting those shiny Stars and collecting other treasure they come across. Her cheerful demeanor makes the treasure so much more exciting to find. On one notable expedition, an enormous bird named Wingo took Toadette and a Star she found, leading to Captain Toad going on an adventure unlike any other to rescue her.

#34 Toadsworth

Great hoogly-boogly! This faithful aide to Princess Peach may be elderly, but he still has his wits and charm to him. Though he hasn't been seen for a while in the Mario series, he was a prominent character during the GameCube days. Advising and making sure the princess is alright isn't all Toadsworth can do; he's a master of mahjong and can play baseball as well!

#35 Waluigi

A tall, lanky rival of Luigi and partner-in-crime to Wario who's yearning for his time in the spotlight. His sports skills are top-notch and his dancing prowess is outstanding. As an Assist Trophy, Waluigi favors his tennis racket and uses his long legs to stomp and kick fighters. It's a shame that he'll always be second banana in terms of getting his chance to play a big role…

#36 Goomba

These mushroom-looking members of Bowser's Minions are always on the frontlines, walking back and forth hoping that a certain plumber will bump into them, but as always, Goombas find themselves falling flat. There have been attempts to shake up their formula, such as forming a tall tower, growing a pair of wings, and even turning into a cat. As weak and pitiful as they are, the rallying cry of the Goombas keeps them going: "Our bodies may be stomped… but our will cannot be crushed!".

#37 Koopa Troopa

Koopa Troopas are the standard foot soldier of Bowser's Minions who present more than just a mere stomp to take them down. Some Koopas are clumsy and fall into pits, some know when to turn the other way. You can tell which is which by the color of their shell, which come in a rainbow of colors! Maybe the Koopa Troopas should get into fashion.

#38 Hammer Bro

Woosh! Hammer Bros. certainly love to throw hammers. The elite troops of Bowser's Minions, Hammer Bros. are known to be nuisances for even the most skilled of players. There's nothing worse than having a hammer knock you down a size. There are other variations of the Hammer Bros. throughout the Mario series, but the standard Hammer Bro appears as an Assist Trophy, doing what it does best: tossing hammers, of course!

#39 Lakitu & Spiny

Lakitus often have their head in the clouds, throwing down Spinies and hovering just out of reach from Mario. That's not to say all Lakitus are enemies, a particular one appears in Mario Kart as the referee, assisting karts and drivers should they accidentally run off the course. Another instance of a friendly Lakitu appeared in Super Mario 64 filming Mario's adventure. Now here's the age-old question: is it pronounced Lah-kuh-too or Lah-key-too?

#40 Blooper

Floating gracefully underwater, the Blooper swims up and down, oftentimes getting into a plumber's path to save the princess. The Blooper can also jet around quickly with their tentacles. They also spray ink all over the place as an item in Mario Kart and are adept in sports like tennis and baseball. Those ten tentacles surely are useful!

#41 Bullet Bill

In Smash Bros., grabbing a Bullet Bill item transforms you into one, letting you dash toward your opponents with an explosive punch. Before they became an item, they appeared in the Subspace Emissary and Smash Run as enemies, emulating their behaviors in the Mario series. While one Bullet Bill isn't much of a problem, a group of them can quickly overwhelm any fighter.

#42 Banzai Bill

The larger cousin of the Bullet Bill, while not having the speed or maneuverability of their smaller counterparts, Banzai Bills make up for it by having a bigger blast radius and causing more destruction. On the Princess Peach's Castle stage, they occasionally slam into the side of the castle and explode to cause heavy damage to fighters that didn't escape in time.

#43 Shy Guy

Masked enemies that first served under Wart and his gang of 8 bits, contrary to their name, they're anything but shy! Many variants of them appear as enemies in Yoshi's Island and the Paper Mario series, including the Spear Guy, Mace Guy, Bomb Guy, Fat Guy, Woozy Guy, and the Fly Guy, just to name a few. The biggest mystery surrounding them is what exactly they're hiding behind that mask…

#44 Pidgit

These flightless birds ride on magic carpets, spreading bad dreams under orders from Wart. While Mario and friends adventure through Subcon, they swoop down and try to stop them. A simple jump on top of them allows the heroes to take over their magic carpets and travel a short distance before they disappear. A Pidgit appears in the Mushroom Kingdom II stage as a platform, but players should be careful to not cross the blast line.

#45 Birdo

Formerly a member of Wart's gang of 8 bits, this pretty-in-pink character is stylish and eccentric! Birdo may not be exactly a bird, but she loves putting in her all when it comes to sports and other competitions. In the Paper Mario series, she sings and puts on a spectacular performance for the audience. "Heart of a woman… heart of a man… both can know of love's grace".

#46 Mouser

The bomb-throwing rodent in Wart's gang of 8 bits. Mouser isn't all that tough to deal with if you chuck his bombs right back at him. A pair of sunglasses shield him from the bright explosions. Mouser is filled with self-centered pride and doesn't consider himself a true mouse. However, we can ascertain that Mouser may have a hidden love for swiss cheese.

#47 Wart

The leader of the 8 bits gang can be a real nightmare, as evidenced when Wart messes with the Dream Machine and conquers Subcon. Mario and his friends set out to defeat him in Super Mario Bros. 2 and travel through the land of dreams. Wart's only weakness is vegetables, which just so happen to spawn out of the Dream Machine in Wart's throne room.

#48 Boo

What's that creeping up behind you? Why, it's a Boo of course! These small ghosts are known to haunt houses and mansions, scaring even the most courageous of plumbers. Boos can also assist the player by stealing items in Mario Kart or stealing Stars in Mario Party. They're also a bit shy if Mario faces them head on, but certain Boos like the gargantuan Boohemoth move forward despite it.

#49 King Boo

In the peaceful Evershade Valley, ghosts were friendly and non-threatening, until the Dark Moon is shattered unexpectedly, causing chaos for a certain professor and a green-clad plumber wielding a vacuum cleaner. This is the work of the dastardly King Boo, who escaped his painting and seeks revenge by trapping Mario inside one! It's up to Luigi to restore Evershade Valley to normalcy and vanquish King Boo before it's too late.

#50 Bob-omb

Walking bombs with a love for exploding. Their mechanical nature may make them resemble a wind-up toy, but that's just part of the ruse. Bob-ombs appear as items in Smash Bros. where fighters can toss them for an offensive attack or to get them away if the fuse is done. They also appear in Super Sudden Death, adding one more challenge to an already stressful match.

#51 Chain Chomp

Chain Chomps are both bark and bite, hopping around and lunging at whoever comes near them. Thankfully, they're attached to a pole in the ground, which means you can get away easier. Fighters beware, this enemy is an Assist Trophy, too, and it'll show just how much of a bite it has when it's coming straight for you!

#52 Thwomp

Crashing down on plumbers is Thwomp's main motive. It doesn't move around often, so it puts all its force into slamming the ground. Some Thwomps squish from the side. In terms of being an Assist Trophy, a Thwomp does what it's most known for: turning fighters into pancakes if they just so happen to be underneath them.

#53 Nipper Plant

These tiny plants jump around once they hatch from floating spores. Being one of the smallest members of the Piranha Plant family, they still can make for an annoying nuisance. They're known to shoot out fireballs as well, adding a spicy surprise to a puny plant. While they're normally a shade of white, re-releases of Super Mario Bros. 3 color them pink.

#54 Petey Piranha

The large leader of the Piranha Plants and occasional overgrown obstacle in Mario's adventures. While his top-heavy stature can lead to him falling over quite easily, his power and strength shouldn't be underestimated. Petey spits out toxic goop and has the ability to fly for short periods of time. He's even surprisingly good at sports and kart racing!

#55 Boom Boom

Whether he's a henchman or henchmen, Boom Boom is a simple-minded minion who isn't really much of a threat. He spins around the room, swinging wildly in an attempt to hit something. This naturally tires him out, leaving him open to a stomp. Boom Boom has a few tricks up his sleeve to try and be a tougher boss, like growing wings or cloning himself to fool Mario.

#56 Boom Boom & Pom Pom

In Super Mario 3D Land, Boom Boom was joined by a new partner, Pom Pom, who proved to put up much more of a fight than he could. Pom Pom tosses a boomerang and hovers in her shell instead of spinning around. However, just like Boom Boom, she can be taken down easily. No matter the outcome, Pom Pom always puts her all into her battles.

#57 Tatanga

In the kingdom of Sarasaland, Mario must rescue Daisy from the clutches of Tatanga. He's come from outer space to take Princess Daisy as his queen and hypnotizing her subjects to do his bidding. Piloting the spaceship Pagosu, he fires missiles which can split into smaller projectiles. He returns in Super Mario Land 2 as one of Wario's henchmen, guarding one of the six Golden Coins.

#58 Hothead

A large ball of electricity that moves around platforms. If you hit it with attacks, it grows stronger and larger. However, the larger a Hothead gets, the less time it has to travel. It doesn't harm whoever used it, but Hotheads are heavy hitters towards your opponents. In the Mario series, Hotheads are larger variations of Li'l Sparkies and mainly found in fortresses and castles.

#59 Chargin' Chuck

These football-playing Koopas that love to tackle Mario head-on. Running full speed ahead makes them a destructive force to be reckoned with. Chagrin' Chucks take on a variety of different positions; digging, passing, splitting, and throwing baseballs. That last Chuck may be a little confused on what sport he's playing!

#60 Wiggler

Caterpillar-like creatures that are usually calm and collected, but one stomp fills them with uncontrollable anger. Wigglers also have a soft spot for gardening, which can be assumed given the small flower on their head. When a Wiggler encases itself in a cocoon, it turns into a beautiful Flutter, soaring high in the sky without a care in the world.

#61 Kamek

Both wise and wicked, Bowser's most trusted advisor is a powerful Magikoopa named Kamek, assisting the Koopa King in the most heinous of schemes. Kamek usually causes chaos and havoc for any plumber looking to save the kingdom. Even when Bowser was just a small, royal pain, Kamek took care of the little ruler and made sure he was always ready to do battle with any "gween donkey" that came to the castle.

#62 Mechakoopa

A toy version of Bowser that's fun for all ages! It may look a bit crazed, but it's adorable, too. Bowser dropped these robots from his Koopa Clown Car in Super Mario World, but had them kicked back in his face. HIs son carries on the legacy in Smash Bros., using them as items to blast fighters away

#63 Dry Bowser

If there's one thing that's certain in the Mario series, it's that Bowser doesn't always give up so easily. Case and point, he can survive being dunked in lava and come out just fine, ready to go another round against Mario. This version of Bowser is tougher and scarier; and can do almost anything he could do when he was still living.

#64 Nabbit

Hey, who took my Fire Flower? And my Super Acorn? That's just Nabbit, resident bunny-eared thief of the Mushroom Kingdom. Toad Houses are his primary targets, stealing their power-ups and putting him in that big sack he carries. In the Mushroom Kingdom U stage, he'll snap up any fighter that he comes across and carry them off-stage.

#65 Big Urchin

You know what they say, the bigger the better! Big Urchins can be found underwater or resting on geysers. Their large size protects them from attacks that would defeat a normal sized Urchin. Urchins also poke and prod fighters if they're launched into them while in the Mushroom Kingdom U stage.

#66 King Bob-omb

Calling himself "the baron of all blasting matter", King Bob-omb rules over the Bob-ombs, and engages in a battle against the Bob-omb Buddies in Super Mario 64. It was up to Mario to topple the king of ka-booms and nab a shiny Power Star. Since then, he's been a recurring lackey for Bowser, being a boss in several Mario Party games and other titles.

#67 Shine Sprite

The symbolic power source of Isle Delfino, Shine Sprites gather at the Shine Gate and provide sunlight for the residents of the island. However, if the Shine Gate is tampered with, the Shine Sprites scatter and are unable to provide the energy, and thus Mario sets off on a journey to retrieve them in order to clear his name and return Isle Delfino back to its peaceful state.

#68 F.L.U.D.D.

An eccentric invention from Gadd Science, Inc that sprays water. The Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device comes with several different nozzles for any goop-filled situation you may find yourself in. Apart from being used to clean Isle Delfino, Mario utilizes it in Smash Bros. as his down special move that pushes fighters away harmlessly; a tool best used to prevent any recoveries!

#69 Piantas

Piantas are friendly, colorful residents of Isle Delfino, with a small palm tree growing on their head to provide shade. They love to dance and relax in the sun, but don't get on their bad side… Mario meets many Piantas on his adventure to collect the scattered Shine Sprites, some of them will even help Mario by launching him in the air, those are known as Chucksters!

#70 Shadow Mario

When Mario first arrives at Isle Delfino, he's expected to be greeted with tropical drinks, delicious seafood, and relaxing with Princess Peach. Instead, he's met with being arrested and sentenced to clean up the goop-stricken mess plaguing the island. Mario's been framed by a mysterious doppelganger who looks just like him, and nobody knows who it truly is… (spoilers: it's Bowser Jr.!)

#71 Luma

Lumas are star-creatures that call Rosalina their "mama". They can transform into planets, stars, even massive galaxies! One particular baby Luma grows attached to Mario, allowing him to spin and collect colorful Star Bits. While they mostly spend their time in space, Lumas have been known to observe kart races and even partake in a round of tennis or two.

#72 Hungry Luma

Feed these open-mouthed Lumas and they'll transform into a planet or a galaxy. They seem to love Star Bits the most, but some prefer Coins. Larger galaxies require more Star Bits to create. Keeping a large amount of them as you go through galaxies is certainly a novel idea, though I do wonder what Star Bits taste like…

#73 Honey Queen

The Queen of the Honeyhive Galaxy, Mario meets her when she's come down with a case of the itches. The itchiness was caused by Star Chips floating around her body, the Honey Queen is grateful that it's stopped! She later requests that Mario help stop Bugaboom from causing trouble. In Mario Kart 7, she's a heavy driver who prioritizes speed and even has her own kart: the Bumble V.

#74 Lubba

A jolly Luma who captains the Starship Mario and helps chase Bowser through the universe to rescue Mario's special someone. Lubba also provides advice for Mario as he brings aboard allies from various galaxies. He's also a bit larger than most Lumas, only second place to the ones found in the Supermassive Galaxy.

#75 Starship Mario

This "faceship" is in the form of who else? Mario! He travels with Lubba through multiple worlds filled with galaxies in order to stop Bowser once more. Along his adventure, Mario meets several residents of the galaxies and brings them aboard. The Starship Mario can be seen flying around the Mario Galaxy stage, so try to spot it next time you play! You can't miss it, it's HUGE.

#76 Sprixie Princesses

Seven colorful fairies of the Sprixie Kingdom. They're captured by Bowser in another one of his schemes, encasing them in glass bottles. If one of them is freed, they build a Clear Pipe to the next world. They can even build a rocket to access other worlds high above the kingdom. The green Sprixie Princess is also particularly good at tennis!

#77 Plessie

A large, friendly Plesiosaur that races down waterfalls and sand dunes. It's big enough to fit four players on its back. The Control Stick is used to adjust speed and turning for Plessie, use it to get in and out of tight situations. Plessie can also bounce on Splounders to reach higher areas and alternate routes. It does look a little bit like Yoshi, perhaps they're related?

#78 Cappy

Mario landed in the Cap Kingdom after a battle with Bowser, missing his trademark red hat. Cappy found a scrap of it and transformed into it, allowing Mario to "cap"-ture (get it?) enemies and other objects. Cappy also has a sister named Tiara, who's been kidnapped by Bowser along with Peach. Mario and Cappy have a whole new adventure ahead of them: an odyssey if you will.

#79 Pauline

In his very first appearance, Mario (who was called Jumpman) had to rescue a girl named Pauline from the clutches of Donkey Kong. Since that encounter, she's become the mayor of New Donk City in the Metro Kingdom. Pauline also has a phenomenal singing voice! She's also a helpful part of the Mario Toy Company, which reignites the rivalry between Mario and Donkey Kong.

#80 The Odyssey

Ever wanted to ride around in a giant top hat? Now you can, thanks to the Odyssey! Fueled by Power Moons that Mario collects on his journey, he and Cappy pilot between kingdoms in search of Bowser and Peach (and Tiara, too!). At a kingdom's local Crazy Cap shop, Mario can purchase stickers and souvenirs to decorate the Odyssey inside and out.

#81 Goo-Goo Buggy

When you think of racing karts, a baby stroller isn't exactly the first thing that comes to mind. However, Baby Mario and Baby Luigi managed to make it work and can keep up with even the fastest of karts thanks to its high acceleration stat. As drivers, Baby Mario and Baby Luigi have the Chain Chomp as a special item, causing havoc along the racetrack as it knocks other karts away!

#82 Barrel Train

Diddy Kong's kart in Mario Kart: Double Dash!! Is themed after barrels and looks like an old-fashioned locomotive. Speed is its strong suit, and it's lightweight just like its primary driver. Diddy Kong is often partnered with his friend Donkey Kong, and they both can use Giant Bananas to block the road, forcing other racers to find a way around it or stop entirely.

#83 Bloom Coach

Fueled by flower power, there's no second guessing who owns this kart. The Bloom Coach has an average stat spread, perfect for getting around turns that other karts couldn't do. Daisy and her partner Peach both use the Heart item, protecting them from any wayward Koopa Shells or Bananas on the track, but also lets them use any items that hit them.

#84 Turbo Yoshi

A kart that resembles Yoshi and driven by Yoshi as well. It excels at acceleration, but has a bit of a hard time keeping up with speedier karts on the track. Yoshi is partnered with Birdo in Double Dash!! with their respective eggs as special items. When an egg strikes a kart, it hatches into three more items and chaos for other drivers.

#85 B Dasher

Mario's personal kart from Mario Kart DS resembles a classic racing car, optimized for speed and getting first place. It appears as a regular kart body in later titles, but Mario was the first to drive it. In Mario platformers, the B button is often used to dash, giving this kart a well deserved name and makes for a neat reference!

#86 Standard Kart

The Standard Kart is as basic as a kart can get. Depending on the driver, its stats can be beneficial to some and disadvantageous for others. These can be manipulated further with the right combination of tires and gliders. Mario in the Standard Kart is often the face of the Mario Kart series, so it's no big deal if you enjoy just the normal set-up.

#87 Standard Bike

Mario Kart Wii introduced bikes as a different way to race, being able to do wheelies and being able to choose between a standard outside-drifting type or a sporty inside-drifting type. A unique quirk for the princesses is that they wear special racing jumpsuits when on a bike. In terms of stats, every bike is different between weight classes, so pick wisely.

#88 Cheep Charger

A small kart themed after a common Cheep Cheep, it's great at acceleration, but susceptible to being knocked around by bigger karts. When different characters drive this kart, certain designs make the Cheep Charger look like the Cheep Cheep's other counterparts. For example, Koopa Troopa gives it a green outer body resembling the Deep Cheep.

#89 Mach 8

The Mach 8 has a huge jet turbine into its body, giving it great speed, but terrible acceleration. Luigi uses this kart as his own in Mario Kart 8, but other characters like Yoshi also have been known to drive it. Say, both the Mach 8 and Mario Kart 8 both have the number eight in their names… it's a case of eight-ception!

#90 Biddybuggy

Biddybuds are tiny enemies, so why not create a kart for tiny racers? The Biddybuggy is great at acceleration, even more so if a small weighted character is at the wheel. The different colors of the Biddybud are available for this kart as well: red, yellow, blue, green, and pink. The red variant of the Biddybuggy resembles that of a ladybug.

#91 Badwagon

This pretty-in-pink muscle kart pairs well with Roy, after all, his company provided the stereo system in the back! The Badwagon can speed past even the tightest of turns with its great traction. Its stereo system plays to the tune of the course's music, in first place, it adds an additional layer of drum beats.

#92 City Tripper

A cute little Animal Crossing themed scooter that's perfect for a small pup like Isabelle. It gets up and goes thanks to its strong acceleration stat, and handles like a dream. A track based around the Animal Crossing series appears in Mario Kart 8, Isabelle may be a hard-working secretary, but she sure loves to race around on the City Tripper!

#93 Master Cycle

Link being in Mario Kart is certainly a surprise, he even gets his own motorcycle to drive! Themed after Epona and with plenty of horsepower, the Master Cycle is a fast inside-drifting bike, decorated with the Triforce symbol on its shields. The Master Cycle is only complete with the Triforce Tires and the Hylian Glider, talk about a true Triforce!

#94 Paper Mario

Once upon a time, Luigi knocked over a mysterious book in Princess Peach's library… sending a flurry of flat characters and causing paper panic across the Mushroom Kingdom! Mario and Luigi team up with Paper Mario to fold this frenzy. Paper Mario can create copies of himself for additional protection and damage, and can even get into small crevices and cracks to obtain items. The three altogether can perform powerful Trio Moves as well!

#95 Paper Bowser

If there's a paper version of Mario, a paper Bowser can't be too far behind. After he's released from the mysterious book, things go from bad to worse as he teams up with his 3D counterpart. The two scrap up a plan to obtain the book and destroy it with the Mario Bros. trio inside, allowing them to take over the Mushroom Kingdom without pesky plumber interference.

#96 Paper Bowser (Paper Mario: Sticker Star)

On the night of the Sticker Comet's arrival, Decalburg is abuzz with wishes, until Bowser shows up to steal it, sending the pieces of the comet scattering and the six royal stickers falling into his minion's hands! Bowser tapes up all the Toads in the town and makes a mess of the festival, sending Mario on a quest to un-stick the Royal Stickers from Bowser's clutches.

#97 Kammy Koopa

Kammy is a high-ranking Magikoopa clad in purple robes. She advises Bowser on his schemes, carrying out his commands, and praising him for his strength with the Star Rod. Kammy also accompanied the Koopa king on his pursuit to "rescue" Princess Peach from the X-Nauts, the two getting into shenanigans with the characters Mario met before they did.

#98 Vivian

A former member of the Shadow Sirens, she becomes one of Mario's partners. She can pull Mario and herself from an enemy's attack with her Veil ability, and then deliver a crushing blow with the Firey Jinx attack. Though Mario and her have parted ways since their partnership, she's never been forgotten and remains an iconic part of Mario's adventure.

#99 Shadow Queen

Sealed away behind the Thousand Year Door, the malevolent Shadow Queen was planned to be revived by the X-Nauts, with Peach as a vessel for her to control! She originally created the Crystal Stars as a way to extend her power further, but ended up being her downfall as four heroes combined their powers and made her dormant for a thousand years.

#100 Mr. L

Calling himself "The Green Thunder", this minion of Count Bleck seems oddly familiar… During the heroes' quest for the Pure Hearts, Mr. L shows up as an obstacle with his mechanical "brother", Brobot, who happens to resemble him. The green hat and bushy mustache make him look a lot like Luigi… on second thought, have you ever seen Luigi and Mr. L in the same place at the same time?

#101 Dimentio

The master of illusions, the pleaser of crowds, Dimentio is a mischievous magician in service to Count Bleck. Upon hearing the heroes that of prophecy foretold have set out to collect the Pure Hearts, Dimentio unleashes his true colors and his master plan to usurp the Count unfolds… by taking control of Luigi and using the Chaos Heart to end everyone's game!

#102 Huey

A member of the Prisma Fountain Emergency Recovery Unit on colorful Prisma Island. Being a living paint can makes for a helpful partner, especially when you need to paint everything in sight. Bowser once more causes trouble and mischief, having turned the Prisma Fountain into evil black paint, so Huey teams up with Mario to paint the island red, er, multiple colors in search for Paint Stars!

#103 Mallow

Hailing from Nimbus Land, Mallow was adopted by the Frog Sage and believed himself to be a tadpole. It isn't until later Mallow finds out he's actually the Prince of Nimbus Land! As a partner with a command of magic, Mallow uses weather based moves, including HP Rain and a lightning bolt called Shocker, making Mallow a bit of a versatile member of Mario's party.

#104 Geno

A star being inhabiting a wooden doll, with his real name being a bunch of symbols; he prefers to go by Geno. Geno is the most powerful member of Mario's party, using his arm cannon to shoot energy projectiles like the Geno Beam and the Geno Whirl. The Geno Whirl in particular can do a heavy amount of damage if timed right.

#105 Prince Peasley

The Beanbean Kingdom's heroic adventurer, teeming with flair and style. Prince Peasley helps Mario and Luigi on their quest to stop the evil Cackletta from achieving her goals. The prince seems to have a penchant for getting into sticky situations, being eaten by a Piranha Bean or being transformed into a dragon. Still, he continues to flaunt his good looks and protect the kingdom at all costs.

#106 Fawful

Fawful is a crazed Beanish with dreams of conquering the Mushroom Kingdom. After having been beaten by a couple of "fink-rats", Fawful intends to spread his mustard of doom over the kingdom, turning the once peaceful kingdom into a danger sandwich of which Fawful will have the chortles once he is done! Yes, Fawful has FURY!

#107 Princess Shroob

The malevolent ruler of the Shroob species, intent on Shroob-ifing the Mushroom Kingdom in both the past and the future. Using the Toads as fuel for their invasion, and their weaponry, it seems that all hope is lost for the most part, until Mario and Luigi step up with their baby counterparts to rid the kingdom of Shroobs for good!

#108 Starlow

A representative of the Star Sprites, Starlow serves as a companion for Mario and Luigi during their adventures. Her joyful, yet feisty demeanor can give way to a stubborn side when things don't go her way. While trapped in Bowser's body, he called her "Chippy" and the two worked together, an unlikely duo for sure!

#109 Broque Monsieur

Broque Monsieur is a bit of a… blockhead. Both literally and figuratively. He teaches Bowser how to inhale and puts him to the test in battle. He also collects blocky little kittens named Blitties, has a block-shaped dog named Broggy, and even his wife, Broque Madame is a block! The species that all of them belong to is called the Brocks.

#110 Dreambert

Dreambert is the prince of the Pi'illo Kingdom, a location centered around sleep and things related to it. When the vile Antasma attacks, he joins up with the Mario brothers to stop him. He's able to let Luigi transition from the real world to the Dream World, where Luigi can dream up anything he deems "Luiginary", including trees, elements, and even new Luiginary Attacks!

#111 Antasma

An evil bat who feeds on dreams and nightmares. He sought the Dark Stone for its power, but was defeated by the mystical Zeekeeper and the Pi'illos, sealing him in the Dream World. In a last act of desperation, Antasma shattered the Dark Stone and sent its chunks raining down on the Pi'illo Kingdom, bringing an end to the civilization for many years.

#112 Papercraft Mario

A giant version of Mario made of cardboard, piloted by the Mario trio. In Papercraft battles, they fight other Papercrafts of enemies and bosses. Dashing and jumping onto them is a surefire way to defeat any Papercraft foes. Other Papercraft versions of Luigi, Peach, and Yoshi appear as well, which means that a Papercraft Bowser isn't too far behind!

#113 Sidestepper

In the Mario Bros. arcade game, these crabby little critters would pop out from pipes and scuttle around the platforms. A bump from below would make it flare up with anger and speed up, with a second blow flipping it over. The Mario Bros. stage features them in their original 8-bit appearance, acting as both a hazard and a throwable item.

#114 Freezie

An icy enemy found in Mario Bros., it slides around platforms and freezes them once they hit the center. Big incentive to take them out early if you don't want to be slipping into any Shellcreepers. As an item in Smash Bros., it turns other fighters frozen solid if you throw it at them, but you'll be the one getting the cold shoulder if it gets reflected back.

#115 Eggplant Man

Wrecking Crew features Mario destroying walls with his trusty hammer, but the Eggplant Men serve as obstacles in his way. They climb up and down ladders if they come across them, and run around until they hit a drum, causing them to turn back around. Simplistic, yes, but in tight situations it proves fatal for poor Mario. An Eggplant Man also appears in Chibi-Robo as a cameo.

#116 Viruses

Viruses are their name, plaguing the Mushroom Kingdom is their game! Dr. Mario takes on the task of defeating numerous viruses at his virus research lab using multi-colored vitamin capsules, which Dr. Mario himself invented. Besides the standard red, blue, and yellow viruses, in Dr. Luigi, there are magenta and cyan viruses.

#117 Flies & Hand

Bzzzzzzzz… SMACK! This Assist Trophy comes from Mario Paint, an SNES game where you can create art, music, and even swat flies in the Gnat Attack mode. When summoned, the hand moves around the stage with its flyswatter and attempts to hit any flies, or fighters, under it. The hand can also be defeated with enough attacks.

#118 Wanda

Mario & Wario, a Super Famicom title exclusive to Japan, features the fairy Wanda as a helpful ally for Mario to complete levels. Wanda takes upon herself to protect Mario after discovering a bucket placed on his head by the nasty Wario. Using the Super Famicom mouse, players can make Wanda alter objects and the environment to help Mario complete the stage without hassle.

#119 Kid

A young golfer who began playing the sport at age three and becoming a golf prodigy at only ten years old. His stats are average, making him a good pick for anyone playing Mario Golf for the first time. If players had both the Game Boy Color and Nintendo 64 versions of the game, Kid could be transferred to the latter. He later mentors a new generation of golfers in Mario Golf: Advance Tour.

#120 Professor Elvin Gadd

Famed inventor and ghost researcher, Professor E. Gadd is a jolly old fellow who rescues and recruits Luigi to rid a mansion of ghosts. His research takes him to the Evershade Valley, where King Boo shatters the Dark Moon, causing E. Gadd's ghost helpers to go mad and haunt the mansions in the Valley. His company, Gadd Science, Inc., is the inventor of F.L.U.D.D and many other unique and quirky tools in the Mario series.

I am finally done with the first set of Super Mario series spirits! These will now be organized by series, there will still be ten per post but a couple more will be included once I reach the end of a series. Only 1,395 more to go... 😅
-----
#121 Poltergust 5000

This ghost-catching machine is Luigi's main tool through his adventures in the Evershade Valley's mansions. It's equipped with a flashlight, which can blind ghosts and activate machines via the Strobulb, and the Dark-Light Device, able to uncover invisible objects. To fully suck in a ghost, Luigi can activate a Power Surge to help capture it. King Boo is right to fear the Poltergust!

#122 Polterpup

Polterpup may be a ghost, but that won't stop him from being man's best friend. Mischievous as all pups are, Polterpup certainly loves to steal keys around the mansions, causing Luigi to have to track him down. It's all a big game to him! Luigi adopts the little ghost pup after the Dark Moon is restored, hopefully it'll help Luigi's fear of… well, everything.

#123 Perry

A magical talking umbrella who accompanies Princess Peach in Super Princess Peach. He can turn into various forms to help Peach along her adventure, including the Subrella, Floatbrella, and the Dashbrella. According to him and his dreams, Perry has some sort of strange, magical powers… as if being a magical umbrella wasn't already strange enough.

#124 Waluigi (Super Mario Strikers)

Soccer in the Mushroom Kingdom is an intense sport, and Waluigi is ready to score some goals on the pitch! As an offensive captain, his Super Strike, Drop Rocket, has him kick the ball with both feet, sending it straight to the goal. In Mario Strikers Charged, Waluigi is a defensive captain, with a thorny Super Ability able to block any players from shooting.

#125 Petey Piranha (Super Mario Strikers)

As top-heavy as he is, you wouldn't expect a giant Piranha Plant to do so well in a game of soccer, but Petey manages to defy expectations as always. As an offensive captain, Petey's Super Ability, Mud Slinger, throws mud that slows everyone but him down. Of course, being an enormous plant means he has a devastating Mega Strike, known as Plant Power!

#126 Mini Mario

Mario Toy Company's latest and greatest product has hit store shelves! It walks! It talks! It even says "Mama mia" just like Mario! Collect one, collect em' all! Hurry, before they're all sold out! Looking for other Mini characters? There's one of Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, and so many other Mushroom Kingdom residents, now in Mini form!

#127 Mini Mario & Hammers

Guiding Mini-Marios through levels can be a bit of a daunting task, given all the obstacles in the toy's path. Fortunately, a Mini-Mario can utilize any hammer it finds to stun or destroy any enemies it comes across. However, it can't jump while using them, so time leading a Mini-Mario to the hammers wisely.

#128 MC Ballyhoo and Big Top

Ah ha ha! The Star Carnival is in town, and that means chaos, competition, and of course, candy! The Master of Catastrophe and his trusty top hat are ready to host a huge Mario Party filled with mayhem and Stars, all for the grand prize of a year's supply of candy! These two emcees are really the life of the party!

#129 Rabbid Peach

The world of the raving Rabbids comes crashing into the Mario universe, bringing along with it Rabbid versions of familiar characters, including this fused version of Princess Peach. Rabbid Peach can dash up to four times, on top of being able to use her Blaster and a small, but destructive Sentry. She's also, like, way attached to her phone taking selfies.

#130 Rabbid Mario

Created from a Mario Cap, Rabbid Mario is a heavy brawler equipped with a powerful Boomshot and a mighty Melee weapon much like his namesake. His alluring Magnet Dance draws enemies closer. Combining this with Mario's Hero Shot or Luigi's Steely Stare makes for easy targets! Rabbid Mario loves to play his mandolin, particularly to a familiar tune…

#131 Rabbid Kong

The "top banana" of the Ancient Gardens, this fusion of Donkey Kong and a Rabbid causes havoc on the heroes, toppling blocks and sending powerful attacks their way on the battlefield. He can heal from eating bananas, so finding a way to get rid of them before attacking is crucial. In the Donkey Kong Adventure DLC, he returns as the main villain, spreading Bad Bananas all across the Banana Lagoon and beyond.

#132 Mario (Mario Tennis Aces)

Mario and tennis have a long history together, dating back all the way to the Nintendo 64. In Mario Tennis Aces, Mario is an all-around character and the main character of the Adventure Mode, where the ancient tennis racket, Lucien, has been stolen in order to take over the world. Mario must recover the Power Stones to seal away Lucien once more.

#133 Luigi (Mario Tennis Aces)

Luigi is an all-around character just like his brother, and wears the appropriate tennis gear like everyone else competing. In the Adventure Mode, Luigi gets possessed by Lucien, an evil tennis racket, and Mario must rescue him and the world from being taken over. If you put Mario and Luigi on the same doubles team, it'll be a classic pairing of the Mario Bros.!

NGL The Super Sonic Spirit or the Super Shadow Spirit mixed with Fast Spirits is kinda speed OP if you do that and attach your spirit to Sonic Shulk (XenoBlade Speed power) or Kirby (taking Shulks power and doing the same thing)

And now we start the Donkey Kong spirits! BANANA SLAMMA! :dk:
----

Donkey Kong Spirits (#134 - #171)

#134 Donkey Kong

Laid-back but adventurous, Donkey Kong is a fierce protector of his home and his precious banana hoard. Always identifiable by his monogrammed necktie, good 'ol DK is a recurring character in the Mario series, and stars in his own series as well! He lives on Donkey Kong Island, where the other Kong family members dwell too. Though one would expect him to be slow due to his size, he's quite a primate powerhouse.

#135 Diddy Kong

Donkey Kong's little buddy and sidekick, often adventuring with him in pursuit of bananas. Diddy Kong may be small, but he has a few tricks up his sleeve with his Peanut Popguns and Rocketbarrel Pack. He can also drop Banana Peels to trip up other fighters. When Donkey Kong got kidnapped by the notorious Kaptain K. Rool, Diddy Kong set out to rescue him alongside his girlfriend, Dixie Kong.

#136 King K. Rool

Every hero needs a villain, and this villain in particular is big, scaly, and green all over. As ruler of the Kremling Krew, he steals the banana hoard every so often, causing Donkey Kong to contend with him to get them back. K. Rool also wears disguises in his plans, the pirate Kaptain K. Rool and the mad scientist Baron K. Roolenstein are just a couple. What does he want with those bananas anyway?

#137 Donkey Kong & Lady

The original Donkey Kong was a barrel-throwing, maiden-whisking, construction site climbing beast. His main motive for kidnapping Lady is her beautiful looks, much to the ire of Little Mario the carpenter. After he finally corners the Kong, he sends him plummeting to the bottom of the last construction site, only for him to once again take Lady and start the whole thing over!

#138 Donkey Kong Jr.

Junior is the son of Donkey Kong, who's been captured by Mario as payback for his construction site chicanery. Junior must climb vines and avoid Nitpickers and Lockjaws in order to rescue his father. He's made a few appearances in the Mario series, most notably as a driver in Super Mario Kart and as a competitor in Mario Tennis.

#139 Stanley

An exterminator who battles Donkey Kong in various greenhouses with powerful bug spray. Stanley must protect his plants from insects that want to feed them to Donkey Kong. Spraying Donkey Kong enough times makes him escape to the next greenhouse, to get his head stuck in a beehive above him in certain, rather humiliating, situations.

#140 Cranky Kong

Once at the top of his prime, starring in several video games and throwing barrels at carpenters, Cranky is now retired and spends his days complaining about how games are too complex and complicated today, along with wise advice to his grandson, Donkey Kong. Apart from being elderly, he's a playable character in Tropical Freeze, showing that you can teach an old Kong new tricks.

#141 Funky Kong

This bodacious Kong has a knack for surfing waves and being easy-going. An invaluable ally of the Kong family, his vehicles have provided many a helpful way toward game completion. Funky Kong recently remodeled his Jumbo Barrel into a one-stop shop for any Kong looking to purchase some items, and he's also a pretty good Barrel Blast participant and Mario Kart driver!

#142 Candy Kong

"Yoo-hoo, Honey Kong!" Candy calls out once she sees her big, burly love interest ready to save his point in an adventure. She considers herself to be "the banana of Donkey Kong's eye", as she helps him out by providing new musical instruments or providing challenges for Donkey Kong to barrel race in. If that doesn't convince you they're in a relationship, then perhaps the heart she kisses toward DK will prove it.

#143 Swanky Kong

Step right up to Swanky's Sideshow and win a prize! Can you answer questions about Donkey Kong Country 2 faster than a Snapjaw? Ready, willing, and able to aim baseballs at targets against Cranky Kong? If so, you've come to the right Kong! Swanky's the name, hosting's the game and with plenty of prizes to give out, you'll have loads of fun in these monkey minigames!

#144 Wrinkly Kong

Wrinkly was once the instructor at Kong Kollege before retiring and spending her days playing the Nintendo 64, saving the progress in any Kong's adventure all the while. Though having passed away since, it hasn't stopped Wrinkly from providing hints and being a sweet old soul. She also wants K. Rool to turn in his missing assignments from thirty years ago…

#145 Dixie Kong

Diddy Kong's girlfriend and adventure partner, she's best known for her long ponytail, which provides useful moves and maneuverability for her. One of the main uses for her ponytail is the ability to glide through the air with it, dubbed the "Helicopter Spin". Beyond that, Dixie had a starring role in Donkey Kong Country 3 and recently joined Donkey Kong and the rest of the Kong family to combat the Snowmads.

#146 Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong

In the Northern Kremisphere, Dixie searches for Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong after they've been missing for a few days. Joining her is her young cousin Kiddy Kong, who is stronger than even Donkey Kong himself. His abilities range from being able to break cracked surfaces to bounding across the water with enough speed. It's possible Kiddy may have grown up, as we haven't seen him in an adventure since then.

#147 Lanky Kong

For a Kong with no style or grace, he sure does have a funny face. Lanky can use his long limbs to attack enemies or to run while performing handstands. His preferred instrument is the trombone, befitting his appearance. Lanky can also expand like a balloon to reach higher locations and collectibles, rounding out a rather weird set of abilities. His lengthy arms benefit him in Barrel Blast, his most recent playable appearance.

#148 Tiny Kong

One of the smallest members of the Kong family, Tiny is actually Dixie Kong's younger sister! They both share the Helicopter Spin ability by way of their ponytails and love to go on adventures. Tiny can shrink herself down to Mini-Monkey form, where she can go through small places where the regular-sized Kongs can't go. This often leads to fighting huge bosses, but as the old saying goes: the bigger they are, the harder they fall!

#149 Chunky Kong

Chunky is one of the biggest members of the DK Crew, weighing in at around 2,000 pounds (yes, even heavier than DK!). He sure puts that weight to good use, as he can lift boulders and throw them at unsuspecting Kremlings. His claim to fame, though, is the Hunky Chunky ability, which makes him gigantic and able to take down anything with relative ease! Just don't talk to him about heights, he's not too fond of them.

#150 Rambi

Good ol' reliable Rambi is Donkey Kong's preferred Animal Friend. Using his horn to bash through massive rocks, uncover hidden bonus areas and topple even the biggest foes, Rambi is a force to be reckoned with. In Diddy's Kong Quest, Rambi got the ability to unleash a powerful super-dash, turning into an unstoppable rampaging rhino, though this has been downgraded into a simple charge in future adventures.

#151 Enguarde

An Animal Friend that helps out in underwater levels. Kongs can ride this smallsword of the sea, thrusting forward for a burst of speed or to knock out an enemy or two, Enguarde even has a supercharge move. If you ever find yourself in a sticky situation requiring Enguarde, just remember the age-old mantra: "stick them with the pointy end!".

#152 Squawks

Squawks used to be much more active in his early appearances, holding a lantern for Donkey Kong in the dark, giving Diddy and Dixie a much-needed lift in vertical areas, and firing coconuts at Kremlings that stood in his path. He's still helpful nowadays, using his keen sense of Squawk-ness to find hidden Puzzle Pieces within the level. Just how he got that power remains a mystery…

#153 Expresso

The fastest Animal Friend and for good reason too! Ostriches are naturally known for their speed, so Expresso donned a pair of sneakers to make sure he can run as fast as he can. He can also jump and glide for a short distance using his wings, but can't defeat any enemies. What good is defeating an enemy if you can jump over and speed away from them before they can react?

Maybe you could write spirit descriptions for characters that don't even have spirits "wink wink, Nintendo, involve these characters in some way shape or form" like Prince Florian from Wonder! 😉

Maybe you could write spirit descriptions for characters that don't even have spirits "wink wink, Nintendo, involve these characters in some way shape or form" like Prince Florian from Wonder! 😉
Sorry, only the spirits in the game are getting descriptions. Perhaps in the future I'll create a "make your own trophy descriptions" thread.

#154 Winky

Boasting a high jump ability, Winky is able to leap where no other Animal Friend in Donkey Kong Country could get to. He can even defeat the spiky Zingers floating around various levels. You'll first encounter Winky while traversing the Monkey Mines, putting his jumping prowess to good use against Gnawties and Neckies to reach Bonus Areas and delectable bananas.

#155 Squitter

Squitter, the spider Animal Friend, does whatever a Squitter can. He can shoot webs from his mouth to knock Kremlings down a size. These webs can also transform into a temporary platform with a press of the A button, allowing for alternative paths and shortcuts to secrets. He might not swing from a thread, but he's still your friendly neighborhood Squitter!

#156 Rattly

Think Winky was the highest jumper around? Well, Rattly jumps even higher! Hold the A button to charge up a soaring Superjump and watch as Rattly rockets upward. He can also defeat Zingers just like Winky. Rattly is coiled like a spring, hopping with every movement. This springiness is what lets him jump so high. If you encounter a Rattly Barrel, Diddy and Dixie will transform into him upon entering it.

#157 Ellie

During Dixie and Kiddy's adventure throughout the Northern Kremisphere, Ellie the Elephant would be an occasional ally. She can suck water through her trunk and spray bursts of it with a press of the L or R buttons. Barrels can also be sucked up by her trunk for puzzle solving or enemy elimination. If she sees a Sneek, however… it makes her run away scared!

#158 Professor Chops

When a Kong passes a checkpoint or needs a little help mastering a move, Professor Chops appears and offers some oink-ientation. Having trouble in a level? Professor Chops enlists the help of the white-furred Super Kong to help you out. The helpful ham even hosts Time Attack, where Kongs can compete for the best time in a given level. The status of Professor begs the question of what exactly he professes in; perhaps it's Baconology?

#159 Kritter

The standard soldier of the Kremling Krew, oftentimes seen pilfering Donkey Kong's banana hoard. Some types of Kritter jump around, others hang out in minecarts and are named Krashes. Most of the time, though, they don't really do anything special; they leave the more complex abilities to the other Kremlings, like Krusha's toughness or Kopter's flying skills.

#160 Zinger

As flying members of K. Rool's gang, they appear in abundance throughout the Donkey Kong series. Nuisances like these guys require a bit more to defeat than your standard Kremling kreep. They have both a king and a queen of their hive, making it a bit confusing from who exactly they take orders from. One thing is for certain: their honey is delicious per Diddy and Dixie's account!

#161 Klaptrap

This tiny chomper of the Kremling Krew really has the munchies. It'll walk around an area, snapping their teeth together in search of a bite to eat. A single stomp is enough to take it down, but multiple Klaptraps can make things a bit tough to chew. Klaptraps also appear in the two Donkey Kong stages from Melee, and they're an Assist Trophy for the first time, chowing down on any fighters they can sink their teeth into.

#162 Kaptain K. Rool

King K. Rool plotted to hold Donkey Kong ransom on Crocodile Isle in exchange for the entire banana hoard as this alter-ego. When Diddy and Dixie make it to The Flying Krock, they find a horrifying scene of K. Rool blasting Kannonballs at DK! He uses his Blunderbuss in battle, firing Kannonballs and clouds of poison at the heroic Kongs, before having it blow up in his face after enough damage. Rumor has it if you collect every DK Coin, you'll discover the Lost World…

#163 Baron K. Roolenstein

Dixie's trek in search of Donkey Kong and Diddy leads to contending with a robot named KAOS. Naturally, this is all a ruse concocted for K. Rool's latest croc-brained scheme: sealing the Banana Queen behind an evil barrier. After collecting twenty Banana Birds, the barrier is broken and the Banana Queen exacts her revenge by putting K. Rool in a giant egg. By the way, K. Rool's propellerpack from this alter-ego appears as his up special!

And with this batch of descriptions, the Donkey Kong part of our journey comes to a close. Next post, we begin the Zelda series spirits, and with it all the multitudes of Links, Zeldas, and Ganons within it.

#164 Blast-o-Matic

Tired of humiliating defeats at the hands of Kongs, King K. Rool has his Kremlings construct this massive weapon, right off the coast of Donkey Kong Island! Fortunately, the DK Crew put a stop to this before anything could happen, but the Blast-o-Matic appears as K. Rool's Final Smash, allowing the vile Kremling leader to finally realise his dream of destroying the Kongs' home once and for all…

#165 Tiki Tak Tribe

From deep within the depths of the Volcano erupt the Tiki Tak Tribe, hypnotizing the inhabitants of Donkey Kong Island to do their nefarious bidding. That, of course, is stealing Donkey Kong's precious banana hoard! The seven high-ranking members of the tribe take over the heads of the island's regions, forcing DK to take them on and beat the tribe to a pulp. The bananas were used to make their leader, Tiki Tong, more powerful.

#166 Lord Fredrik

The large-and-in-charge king of the Snowmads sets his sights on Donkey Kong Island, coating it with a hefty layer of ice and snow, before finally placing his ship right on top of the Volcano. The Kongs were blown back to a far off island, together they must trek back toward the now frozen-solid homeland. Lord Fredrik himself is no slouch during battle, using his massive horn to summon ice dragons and enemies.

#167 Kip

A small Kremling child proficient in Barrel Blast and a brat as well. Kip loves donuts and often rushes headfirst into situations without thinking much at first. His small stature gives him a high Agility stat, a middling Boost, but low speed. Diddy Kong is his rival on the track, given that their the same size and share the same statistics. Up to you to decide who's better!

#168 Kalypso

Kalypso is a Kremling with a talent for sports and dancing. No wonder she's so good at Barrel Blast! Her rockin' purple afro and jewelry make her a dazzling opponent on any course, high Boost and Speed making her a blur of beauty. Kalypso also owns a clubhouse frequented by the Kremling Krew and is known to be a good leader.

#169 Donkey Kong & Bongos

Bongos are the quintessential instrument for anybody who likes to drum. Donkey Kong in particular loves to play the bongos, with the Donkey Konga series on the GameCube providing tons of bongo-beating fun! The DK Bongos were a special controller that registered each slap of a bongo and the clap of hands timed to the actions on screen, and was also used to control Donkey Kong Jungle Beat.

#170 Karate Kong

A malicious boss Kong skilled in the ancient art of karate and the ruler of the Pineapple Kingdom. Donkey Kong fights him atop a floating log on a river, where he must stun and wail on Karate Kong after dodging his karate chops and flying kicks, which have enough power to knock out Donkey Kong despite Karate Kong's old age. I'd wager that the type of karate he practices is called Kong-Fu!

#171 Ninja Kong

Kongs and being strong are two things that have a lot of correlation between them, Ninja Kong being one of the most powerful of them all. Ninja Kong, ruler of the Durian Kingdom attacks with punches and kicks, making his battle one of the toughest to complete in Jungle Beat. Managing to take down this beast puts you up to the final fight against the true leader of the evil Kongs…

It's time to kick off 2026 with the Zelda series, hopefully we'll find the Triforce of Wisdom to make this a better year for everyone!

The Legend of Zelda Series (#172 - #263)

#172 Link

Across the vast and varied history of the Kingdom of Hyrule, there have always been a few constants. Link is one of them, his incarnations are always the hero that defeats Ganon and saves the kingdom from peril. This Link incarnation is from Breath of the Wild, where he explores Hyrule much more openly than previous Links. Link brings his Bow and Arrows and Remote Bombs with him here in Smash Bros., but he still wields the Master Sword like always.

#173 Zelda

The princess of Hyrule and the entire reason it's not called The Legend of Link. Zelda looks a bit different this time; as it's her incarnation from both A Link to the Past and A Link Between Worlds. She still has access to the powers granted by the Sages, plus her trusty Phantom bodyguard as her down special. Her new Final Smash lets her use the power of the Triforce of Wisdom to KO opponents.

#174 Sheik

A mysterious person said to be the last surviving Sheikah, teaching Link various melodies via a harp in Ocarina of Time. Before disappearing with a Deku Nut, they give Link some words of wisdom. In Smash Bros., Sheik uses weaponry like needles, a Burst Grenade, and has the ability to teleport away from danger. It's only a shame that we'll never know their true identity…

#175 Ganondorf

The epitome of evil, Ganondorf will stop at nothing until he has the complete Triforce or conquers the land of Hyrule, whichever comes first. Being the only male Gerudo, which occurs only once every century, he is destined to become king of their tribe. Ganondorf packs incredible power in his moves, gaining a new sword for his smash attacks. This incarnation hails from Ocarina of Time, Ganondorf's first appearance.

#176 Young Link

If you look in the history books of Hyrule, you'll find that it is written that only Link can defeat Ganon. Even from a young age, Link still carries a sword and shield, ready to do battle when the need arises. He was raised in the Kokiri Forest, befriending a girl named Saria, and lived under the watchful eye of the Great Deku Tree until he fell into a seven-year slumber… before he would wake up and become the Hero of Time we all know and love!

#177 Toon Link

The Hero of Winds, set upon his quest when the Helmaroc King kidnaps his little sister, taking her to the Forsaken Fortress. He sails on the King of Red Lions, meeting a pirate captain, a strange man in a green bodysuit, and many other unique characters across his journey. This Link's moveset might be the least special of the playable Links, but he can put up just as good of a fight.

#178 Link (The Legend of Zelda)

Link's debut adventure set the tone for the Legend of Zelda series: rescue Princess Zelda from the evil clutches of Ganon. It was dangerous to go alone, Link was told, receiving a sword that would be useful in defeating enemies, as well as many other items like the Shield and the Silver Arrows. The rest, as they say, is history, and Link continues his quest to this day!

#179 Octorok

A simple enemy that shoots easily blockable projectiles from its snout. Octoroks can be a nuisance when encountered in packs, but it's nothing a sword swipe or Boomerang toss can handle. Certain types of Octorok, like the ones featured in Skyward Sword, hide when they aren't attacking. They can blend into bush patches and take any hero by surprise should they approach, but as long as you have a Shield, Octoroks aren't a big deal.

#180 Moblin

As mainstay members of Ganon's army, Moblins are tough foes with even tougher appearances. They wield weapons like swords or spears, ready to whittle down Link's health. Moblins are also known to be very greedy, caring much more about food or riches than anything else. It's not all bad though, some Moblins will give Rupees to Link if he finds them, but that's just a secret to everybody.

#181 Tektite

Arachnophobes beware, these cycloptic spider creatures jump around and generally have a creepy appearance. A simple sword swipe can dispatch them quickly, given that they don't have much health, but in numbers they can overwhelm and take out your hearts like no tomorrow. If Tektites don't sound particularly pleasing, then you're probably not ready to deal with a Gohma just yet.
