Freeform (64 and Sunshine) vs. Linear (Galaxy)

Personally, I preferred the freeform gameplay of 64/Sunshine, especially 64, where you could collect the stars in any order.

Galaxy, however, was way too linear, and lacked that sense of freedom that 64 and Sunshine had.
Freeform. Galaxy was a excellent game in it's own right, but the lack of freeform gameplay made it not seem as fun as 64.
I do prefer the more open-ended types of games, but Galaxy made linearity work extremely well. The levels were just set up in a perfect way to keep the game moving forward and it was just excellent. Lots of credit goes to level design.

Nevertheless, I am still very excited about Galaxy 2 taking a more freeform approach, which will be awesome since it will have a blend of levels which have both straight-forward linear platforming and levels with a little it more adventure. Something for everyone I guess :)
