Ah yes, Mario Kart 64 The first semi-3D Game in the series, Released on January 10, 1997 to critical acclaim, Mario Kart 64 was a smash hit among consumers, but, we all know that, now, lets get into it!

Option
Now you are at the Game Select screen, I will take you through it starting with: OPTION! Press

To open the OPTION Menu.
Sound Mode
You can have this at three options:
Mono: Which is just sound firing out of one of the speakers at a time, useful for a setup that isn't stereo
Stereo This is an option so that it may take advantage of two side by side speakers
Headphone Useful if you have headphones hooked up to your N64
Copy N64 Controller Pak
This is so you can copy your ghost data to a friends Controller Pak. So they can check out your time trials and race against it.
Erase All Data
USE THIS ONLY IF YOU WANT TO COMPLETLY RESET YOUR GAME TO SCRATCH, NO CUPS OR ANYTHING UNLOCKED! Please use cation with this action

Data
Now press the

Button to open DATA. You can pick a course and see your best times for it. It is recomended to play this game with an N64 Data Pack for this.

Mario GP (1-2 Players)
Oh boy, this is the main part of the game, Mario GP. There are three speeds, 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc. If you are just starting out you should play on 50cc then work your way up.
Now you can select your character, It doesn't matter what you chose just pick what's best for you. There are 4 cups, Mushroom Cup, Flower cup, Star Cup, And Special Cup. I would do them in that order.

Races
Now on to the races, One of the first things you should do is just try to just get good at turning. At the start of the race don't try to rocket start yet, just wait until Lakitu gives the green light, Now if you press

Items
There will be these crystal like boxes with ? Marks in them throughout the course, When you hit one you will get a helpful item, press

to use them
