Got a question about Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (spoilers)

You know how when you win the 99,999,999,999,999 Mushroom Coin bet against Prince Peasley about getting the 4 Beanstar pieces only to find out it actually translates to only 99 Beanbean Coins? Do you actually get those 99 Beanbean Coins (i.e. does it increase your coin inventory)? Or is it just a throwaway gag that doesn't affect gameplay?
