Can't connect to Online Multiplayer on Mario Kart 7

Every time I try to connect to it an error shows up. If this keeps happening I'll have to drop out of the MK7 tournament. Anyone know how to troubleshoot this?
 
What error code did you get?
 
That's strange, usually it spits out an error code so tech support can pinpoint the error more easily

Try testing your internet connection via Internet in the Settings app.
 
Just posting here because I have this same error showing up at random times during all 3ds online activities

judging from the menu screen my 3ds disconnects from the internet all ~45 seconds, but i dont know if thats a reliable source or if it just switches to streetpass after that time to show that streetpass is enabled

also i had this problem all the time with my old router

a suggestion i read a lot was to disable your router security, though i wouldnt recommend that because everyone could get into your internet.
