The Official E3 2014 Thread

The more I think about it....the more I think hacking Brawl really spoiled me.

I've seen a lot of that online, especially due to Project M. That mod was designed to be a competitive fighter. Smash 4 is still at its core a party game. It will still be played competitively. Heck, I can see it replacing Brawl at most tourneys. Back to the point, I've seen a lot of comparing that the characters don't look balanced and that the stages are too gimmicky. People need to understand that this is not gonna be a super balanced, competitive fighter like PM.

But with Namco helping with balancing plus all the acknowledgements to the competitive scene make me think this will be a step in the right direction.

It's not just Project M...it's also the characters, stupid menu text, stupid HUD, and custom music, custom PSAs and all of that good crap that made modding phenomenal.

Some of the stages look fun to play on. I haven't seen a shtty stage like Mario Bros. or 75m so far...I'm those idiots who like stage hazards when done right and not when they're annoyingly stupid like some of those aforementioned stages.

In a few years, it may be possible to mod the Wii U, so there's that.

What I love about the newest Smash game is just how "fresh" it is. All the newcomers are unique, everything looks nice and polished, and a lot of older characters are getting tweaked. The whole game just looks and feels new.

I agree that most of the stages look good. Nothing too ridiculous like 75m or Rumble Falls, at least not yet. We are far from knowing all the stages.

To me, it just looks like "Brawl, but with more characters and prettier graphics". I know it's not the case at all, the physics engine changed and it's not necessarily a BAD thing to be more of the same. After all, this is what Smash is about, it doesn't NEED a drastic change like, say, Mario platformers do. But something about it just FEELS like it's gonna be like Brawl to me. I dunno, I haven't looked at enough gameplay videos and fun stuff like that. Or I'm just a little bit unexcited because barely any of my favorite Smashers returned yet, like Ice Climbers or Ness.

That's why you only play on Final Destination like a real man

Rest assured Ness will return. I think Ice Climbers will as well if Sakurai has figured out Rosalina and Luma on the 3DS version. I'm also looking forward to Ness' return myself actually. Since he's one of my mains in Brawl/Project M.

I'm sure he'll return. Ness is part of the original 12 and the star of his own series. So yeah, someone will be a ghost if Ness doesn't return.

I still think that the "The Original 12 will always come back" theory is bullshit. Sakurai has never said that. I'm sure Ness will return, though. Hopefully Lucas will too.

And I hope Jigglypuff gets cut, even though I recognize it's very unlikely. Mewtwo MUST return as well.

Um, no.

The original 12 is not a bullshit argument. That's like with the MK64 classic 8. They aren't going to change the roster and exclude one of them after they have appeared in all Smash Bros. games to date. Sakurai may not have said that the Original 12 must come back, but he has indirectly inferred it when he said that he wanted to cut as little characters as possible. The fact that he wants to keep as many of the past characters means that he is definitely not going to cut the original roster. I mean, we have had surprise returns of Ike and Toon Link, which proves that he isn't going to cut characters unless for some reason that we do not know.

Jigglypuff is still very popular in Japan, and as many have said already, her change to a part-Fairy type only strengthens her chances of getting back in, since she is still relevant to the game. And of course people say "well, she was a late addition to Brawl". Maybe she was one of the last characters to be added, and maybe it was because they knew that programming Jigglypuff into the game was not that difficult to do. And maybe that's why she has not been confirmed yet into the game. I also feel like Ness took a long time to be announced as well. Can't remember Captain Falcon's announcement in terms of development.

And Mewtwo has a...very slim to none chance of returning. Mewtwo was cut for a reason, and the fact that we have Greninja means that Mewtwo is basically very unlikely. We already have 9 newcomers, and probably not many left. I highly doubt that we'll see two newcomers from the same series again, even though Pokemon had two newcomers the last time. This time around they seemed to be more focused on bringing out new representations from Nintendo's other series that have not been introduced into the games. I mean, 2/3rds of the newcomers are the only reps for their series (2 being third parties), while the other three are for Mario, Pokemon, and Kid Icarus. The most likely next set of newcomers will be probably in Fire Emblem or Zelda if we are talking in terms of IPs that are already being presented, while many potentials from new IPs such as Rhythm Heaven, Golden Sun, and Xenoblade could rep their series in Sm4sh.

I'm going to stop ranting now because this thread is about E3 2014, not Smash.
