So in my history class, we got a project in which we have a debate over a certain topic, and my group's topic is whether or not pennies should be discontinued. So i wanted to ask you guys; what do you think should be the fate of the penny?
 
Whilst they're not entirely necessary, I do think they should be kept in, especially since penny machines would no longer work.
 
I'm not going to lie, I read the thread title as 'penises'
It would be a lot of hassle to discontinue them though as lots of stuff would have to be changed, so imo, I would keep them as its not worth the hassle.

Anywho, I say that pennies should be discontinued because the average wage of a US worker is about 17 dolllars an hour - which is 1 cent every 2 seconds - so pennies are basically worthless, and it takes more money to make a penny than what they're actually worth, so there would be more benefits than drawbacks should they be removed.

anyways i really don't see the point in getting rid of pennies

2 billion versus like 17 trillion (I'm not keeping track at this point of how big our national debt is) is nothing

and that's every penny in circulation
 
Keep the pennies, in the past you could go to stores and buy candies for a penny. They obviously have some past value to many of the elderly people. Also, if the economy gets better and deflates a little, pennies could mean more once again. We should just try and keep them in circulation.
